Re: [AFMUG] married-male seeking internet service

2016-03-01 Thread Chuck McCown
That is a whole other dimension.

There were hard feelings between Mike and some of the WISPA founders.

One of the original WISPA guys was unhappy because Mike didn’t give him that
big copper coin you are supposed to get as part of part15. I remember WISPA
guys trying cause Mike grief over his so called not for profit status and the
purchase of an emergency part15 motor home.

Lots of soap opera there.

And then there was the lawsuit between ISPCON and WISPCON...

I'm not there yet, but after scoping around and some research, we've
decided Anderson Co is where we'd like to be. I'm not living inside city
limits if I can help it, but I gotta have broadband. I'm sure DSL and
such are 'available'. I'll be visiting KY for spring break, scouting
schools, land, maybe churches...

Yeah, that's what it was called -- frequency shift keying. Stuff worked
quite well in the absence of RF noise and network congestion. I will prob
go to great lengths to get broadband, as in, my own tower ... or dig a
ditch.

I noticed no one said anything about satellite. It still sucky?

I think I attended the first 2 or 3 Animal Farms. I peruse this forum
once a while. Good stuff, cool dudes.

Part-15.org days—wow, haven’t thought of that for a while. What was
the name of the dude who ran that list? IIRC something went down
between him and Chuck? Some kind of conflict..

I don't need it *now* but I am scouting in advance of being there.
Don't need a ton of bandwidth, just decent latency and reliability
for working from home. Good-ol-days 900Mhz Canopy -- no thanks.

2016-02-29 Thread Chuck McCown
I don’t think it was more than an hour later. I honestly thought he shut it
down. I sent him several offlist emails asking about it. Nothing. Pretty
sure he went somewhere and came back after a weekend or something. I don’t
know how long part-15 kept going after that. I felt bad about it but I didn’t
do it as a coup. Not sure if Michael ever believed that.

Folks were contacting me wondering the same things we I gave folks a place to
hang out.

That's pretty much how I remember it. Quite ironic that the server crashed the
day that Bullet (Bullit?) wrote the "I QUIT!" message. Kind of a strange twist
of fate I guess.

If you're willing to post your lat/lon, you might be able to get some
relevant responses. If you're buried in trees, they ain't much help in
frequencies above 900 MHz. Although the new Cambium PMP450i in 900 MHz
might be worthwhile.
