Interesting, I have not had any issues with their cable. I do like the
Shireen stuff as well though.

Re: [AFMUG] Shielded connector preferences

2016-09-08 Thread Ken Hohhof
I had a similar experience with their double jacketed shielded cable, it’s like
they took indoor shielded and overjacketed it and called it outdoor. I’ve had
no problem with their unshielded cable though. If Shireen made an unshielded
dry tape version I would probably use it. I think they have gel filled, or
shielded with dry tape, but not unshielded with dry tape.

We also tried the latest Apex9 unshielded awhile back, it was OK, installers
said the extra force required with the reel-in-a-box was a bit of a nuisance
although the cable did come out less kinky. We use the DC-1042 now at towers,
for that I like the Shireen reel-boxes a lot.

I use the butane soldering pen, but I just tack the drain wire down to
the side of the plug.
I'll have to try going under the metal; sounds like it would make better

Folding the foil back over the jacket so that it makes contact with the

2016-09-07 Thread George Skorup
We use Primus plugs.
http://www.balticnetworks.com/primus-shielded-cat5-connectors-100-pack.html

The wire channels are larger than the UBNT plugs. Plus the pins don't
fall out or slant when crimped.

I hate Primus cable, but their RJ45s are pretty good. Wouldn't surprise
me if they don't even make them.

As far as I can tell the UBNT, RF Armor and Arc connectors are all
pretty much exactly the same - we've been using RF Armor, for no
particular reason other than that they're the cheapest of the three.

RF Armor preferred. Ubnt is OK. ARC is good, too.

2016-09-07 Thread That One Guy /sarcasm
the easyrj45 shielded connectors for residential shielded cable (the shield
with 6 or so wraps of the drain fits in nice)
For infrasructure we just use unshielded ends and bond the bbdge copper to
the radio ground lug and to the bus bar where it enters the enclosure
