Welcome, Tarhalindur! (you may want to sign your nickname in your messages

The current "status" of subject-line stuff is it can work IF something in the
body of the message (like: "See the subject.") draws attention to it, so we know
you mean to do what's in the subject line and you're not just replying to
something with that subject line.

Pity. The meta-CFJ actually seems interesting there, as a matter of
explicitness versus game custom.

That said, I seem to remember judging a CFJ on the matter a while back,
so it may already have been decided (or maybe I filed it, and someone

Sorry? I'm new and don't know all of the rules off the top of my head yet.

In the past, we have a minor tradition of Calling for Judgement on
whether a new player's registration succeeded.

In this case, Roujo sent the message to the discussion forum (not
public), so e didn't really CFJ, so it was just a minor joke.

ais523 didn't notice that the message was sent to discussion,
noticed that the phrasing of the supposed CFJ was confusing, and
called eir own CFJ on whether the first one worked or failed, due
to the confusing phrasing. But the first one didn't work for a
trivial reason: it wasn't public.

Sometimes this is what passes for fun around here :).

 What was/is hazing?

Basically, the history goes something like this:
  * In Agora, it's quite popular to probe the edges of the rules;
it's one of our main pastimes.
  * Additionally, many new players used to mess up the old (rather
strict) system for registration (by this, I mean very old;
several years ago). So we relaxed the requirements on it so that
most actual attempts by new players would count as working.
  * As a result, many players (either old players reregistering, or
new players who had been looking for a while) tried to register
in an ambiguous way so that we could debate whether it worked or
not. (In fact, we even change the rules on registration from
time to time to shake up what sort of avenues for ambiguous
registration are available.)
  * This lead to something of a pattern where if someone registered,
someone else would immediately create a CFJ (Call For Judgement,
we use them to gain insight into disputes or uncertain
situations) about whether the registration worked or not.
  * Given how many registrations were CFJed, it lead to something of
a tradition where people would CFJ on a registration even if it
wasn't ambiguous at all, just to keep up the pattern. (It didn't
help that in many cases, apparently unambiguous registrations
did turn out to be at least slightly ambiguous.)
  * This was deemed unfair to new players, so the practice of CFJing
a new registration without a good reason was given a name -
Hazing - and banned in the rules.
  * Recently, we repealed a lot of rules, and the Hazing rule is one
of them. Because it isn't against the rules any more, Roujo
decided to start up the old tradition again. (With some
ambiguity involved, because e forgot to actually specify the
statement of the CFJ; although it was probably intended as a
joke because it was sent to -discussion, where messages don't
officially count, rather than -business, where the gameplay
happens.)

I CFJ on whether that is a CFJ. Arguments against: it doesn't
clearly specify a statement. Arguments for: most experienced
players can deduce the statement from context.

FALSE. It was sent to Discussion.

Roujo's (updated through last August) worked last week but it looks like
the links or db are wonky today: http://cotc.psychose.ca/cotc/

I wanted to host, but my available (university) server doesn't
 support/allow postgres, and I haven't had a chance to tackle a rewrite.
Hosting and catchup is on my todo list but it's a long todo list.

Yeah, I updated the underlying server a couple of days ago and I
didn't check if the CotC site was still working afterwards since I was
pretty sure that I wasn't the reference for that anymore. I can try
and get it working if there's a need for it - shouldn't be too hard,
it's just postgres' config that changed a bit, I think.

Oh, and the main site is broken but that's Apache being wonky
post-upgrade. I really should look into that. =P

Not possible. You need an email.

All the time oklopol was registered, e didn't specify what eir email
address was (making my attempt to report on em as then-Registrar rather
special-cased). We already have one precedent of a player without an
independent email. (Also, the TNP2/root thing, although that's slightly

I'm assuming players fall under the definition of Rule-defined entities.
What's interesting is that there are patent titles which still exist under the rules and
are assigned to Chuck, so it's possible e is still defined to some degree in relation to
those.
