Re: [all-audio] Looping With Audacity

2019-09-27 Thread David Bailes
Hi Robbie,
you can delete some audio from the start or end of the audio as follows:
I'm assuming that the track is selected, which it is by default if you open or
import a file.
To delete at the start of the track:
1. Press spacebar to start playback.
2. Press X at the start time of the audio which you want to keep. Pressing X
stops playback and moves the cursor to that position. You can make fine
adjustments to the cursor position using left and right arrows.
3. Press Shift + J to set the start of the selection to the start of the audio.
4. Press delete.

To delete at the end of the track:
1. Press K to move the cursor to the end of the audio.
2. Press Comma a few times to move the cursor back to a few seconds before you
want to the audio to end.
3. Press spacebar to start playback.
4. Press X where you want the audio to end.
5 Press Shift + K to set the end of the selection.
6 Press delete.

There's a guide to Audacity 2.3.2 for users of screen readers available at this
address:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.3.2-Guide.html

Hi Drew,
I'm not familiar with recording phone calls, but Audacity gets on well with
both Jaws and NVDA,

Re: [all-audio] ointers on starting with Audacity, or MP3 Direct Cut?

2018-10-29 Thread David Bailes
Hi Gerardo,
I'll give you an outline of how to do the task you gave, and also details of
the Audacity4Blind mailing list.

You want some audio, audio2, to start about 18 seconds after the start of some
other audio, audio1.
After opening Audacity:
1. On the File menu, open the import sub menu, and Choose audio (ctrl+shift+I).
A dialog opens and you can choose Audio1. This becomes the first track.
2. You then need to position the cursor at about 18 seconds. One way of doing
this is to press spacebar to start playback, and then press the letter X when
you get to that point. Playback stops and the cursor is positioned at that
point.
3. Import the second file, in a similar manner to step 1. This becomes the
second track.
4. To move the start of the second track to the cursor position, track 2 should
be selected, and track 1 should not be selected. Following the steps above,
this should in fact be the case, but for future reference you can change
whether a track is selected by pressing enter.
5. Open the tracks menu, open the align tracks sub menu, and choose Start to
cursor/selection start. This causes the start of the audio in the selected
track to be aligned with the cursor.
6. Press home to move the cursor to the start of the audio. Press spacebar to
play, and hopefully you'll hear what you're wanting to hear.

There's an Audacity4Blind mailing list, and you can subscribe on this page:
https://www.freelists.org/list/audacity4blind

On this web page you can subscribe to the mailing list: type your mail address
into to the “your email address” edit box; then Tab to and check the check box
to indicate that you aren't a robot; and finally Tab to the Next button and
press it. You will receive an email to confirm your subscription. In that
email, open the link to confirm your email address. A web page opens in which
you have to agree to various terms. There three check boxes which have to be
checked, and finally a Next button to press.

David.

Hi Dane,
unfortunately, the latest version of Audacity which is accessible using
VoiceOver is still the screen reader version of 2.1.1, which is available here:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-macosx-ub-2.1.1-screen-reader.dmg

Re: [all-audio] Audacity 2.3.0

2018-10-01 Thread David Bailes
Hi Hamit,
due to licencing issues, the standard version of Audacity does not support
Asio. The only way round this is to compile Audacity yourself. More details are
given on this page of the manual:
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/asio_audio_interface.html

[all-audio] Audacity 2.3.0

2018-10-01 Thread David Bailes
Audacity 2.3.0 has recently been released. One of its new features is punch and
roll recording, which enables you to easily correct mistakes immediately after
you've made them.
This is a link to the Windows installer:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-win-2.3.0.exe

I've updated my Jaws guide to Audacity to cover this release, and it's
available here
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.3.0-Guide.html
Nearly all the guide is also applicable to users of NVDA and Window-Eyes.

Note that if you're using the Jaws script for Audacity, some parts of it don't
yet work with this latest version of Audacity.

David.
