Upon startup of OpenOffice.org 2.0 Base, the Tables button on the left hand
column does not work. Furthermore, upon using the tables wizard through
the "New" command on the File menu, the program crashes (after setting up a
form).

The attached files contain a module for the support of Khmer language in ICU.
The module has been fully tested and included in the current ICU source (after
release of ICU 3.2).

The module has 4 new files and that need to be placed in the icu/source/layout
directory, and a small modification to file LayoutEngine.cpp for the module to
be called (and the include file included).

I am attaching a diff over the ICU 2.6 source for this file, after modifying the
source with the official patch in extern/icu/icu-2.6.patch.

I followed this process:

1) I downloaded the source in extern/icu/download/icu-2.6.tar.gz
2) I modified it with the patch in extern/icu/icu-2.6.patch.
3) I made sure that the logic in 2.6 is exactly the same as in 3.2 (I had asked
the ICU layout engine maintainer and said that it should probably work the
same).
4) I applied to the 2.6 icu/source/layout/LayoutEngine.cpp file the patch that I
had developed for ICU 3.2, it fits perfectly.
5) I diff -u the LayoutEngine.cpp file obtained in point 2) above with the one
modified by my patch for 3.2, and I obtain the LayoutEngine.cpp.diff included in
the zip file attached.

The patch is prepared to be installed from inside the /icu/ directory (in which
the source directory is), the files to be installed are also correctly place in
the zip file in reference to that directory (so inside the zip file they are in
/source/layout/).

I know that this is not enough to make the inclusion, Eike posted sometime ago
the following, in reference to patching the ICU 2.6 copy used in OOo:

"Just to mention that this patch file MUST NOT be created manually. There
is a dmake target that does this from the sources available under
${INPATH}/misc/build/icu/ after the module was built once, and files
were modified: dmake create_patch

However, you have to create the patch on a Unix or Linux platform, using
Windows will spoil things."

I am submitting this as a normal patch because this is how far my technical
knowledge goes, but I hope that it will facilitate the process.

I have assigned this to ihi supposing that this falls into l10n issues, if not,
please reassign.

Start a bullet. Type in some text. Highlight all of the text and underline it.
The bullet ends up being underlined also and there is no way to remove the
underline on the bullet unless the underline for the whole line is removed. In
order to prevent the bullet from getting an underline, I have to underline the
text except the first letter and then underline the first letter only.

Sure, that sounds good. Over to you then. Feel free to ditch these patches and
close as WONTFIX if you
come up with a better solution. Original idea was simply to stub out sandbox
so that it would at least
build, and later we could find out what actually would break/not work so we
could think about fixing it.

Under Format > Character ... in Impress there should be a tab for selecting the
style and other characteristics of hyperlink text, such as visited and
unvisited link character styles. This tab appears in Writer and is referred to
in the OpenOffice.org help files under hyperlinks, character formats. But it
does not appear in Impress either with or without text highlighted. Basically I
am trying to figure out how to change the link color in my presentation and the
help file led me to a dead end. The application, the documentation, or both need
corrected.

Hi,

I think you might've misinterpretted my explanation - it does work if you type
'=' and then click on a cell in another file (and this is the way I was hoping
it would work) however if you've made inter-sheet references in one file, and
then import one of those sheets into another file, all the references change to
#REF instead of the original document's filename - but sometimes they also
change to apparently random sheet names instead.

It does however seem that once you've typed '=' and clicked in the other file
suddenly it all starts working the way it should. Except that I seem to have
stumbled across another bug, in that if the reference is to Doc1#Sheet2 after
the import it changes to Doc1#Sheet1. I think the following steps should
reliably reproduce these problems:

1. Close all instances of OOo
2. Open Calc with a new spreadsheet
3. In Sheet1, cell A1, type "=Sheet2.C5"
4. Go to Sheet2 and in cell C5 type "1234"
5. Go back to Sheet1 and cell A1 should now contain the value 1234.
6. Save the document as one.sxc
7. Create a new spreadsheet.
8. Close one.sxc. You should now have only one OOo window open, a blank
spreadsheet.
9. From the Insert menu, choose "Sheet..."
10. Select "From File" and Browse to select one.sxc
11. Select "Sheet1" in the list, make sure the "Link" checkbox is ticked, and
click OK.
12. You will now see a new sheet called "Sheet1_2" and in cell A1 it contains
the formula "=Sheet1.C5" which is incorrect - not only should it really be
Sheet2 as you entered in the original file, but it should be
"='file:////one.sxc'#Sheet2.C5" to maintain the linked reference (which is
why you select Link in the first place when inserting the sheet.)

Hopefully these instructions will allow you to reproduce the problem.

I was creating a documet in 1.9.69. I saved it as a .sxw and when I re-opened it
the cursor was back at the top.

The restore editing view is checked so I beleive the cursor position should be
remembered.

If I open the same doc in 1.1.4, the cursor position is remembered even though
the doc had never been opened in 1.1.4 before.

Do I need to check a different box or is this an issue?

OOo 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 under WinXp Pro, SP2, Ver. 5.1, Build 2600

(a)
1. Created NEW text document with font Fractions for 1/2, 1/4 and 3/4 being
Times New Roman in O.O.o 1.1.3.
2. Exported to PDF in O.O.o 1.1.4, viewed with Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional.

Result: All fractions exported.

(b)
Copied pasted table 1 on page 6/15 of original OOo file into a NEW text document
in OOo 1.1.4. Saved, exported to PDF and viewed with Adobe Acrobat 6.0
Professional.

Result: Only 1/2 fractions are exported.

Conclusion: Bug seem to be specific to the original Ooo file submitted.

Hmm, at least something fixed itself. My m72 build *with* the patch mentioned
above now deinstalls completely and without warning.

The DOS vs. POSIX problem still persits, see also issue 41134.

Interestingly, I discovered a fix... well, sort of.

Apparently this problem only affects Windows XP, from what I've been told. So,
on a hunch, I went into the properties for soffice.exe and selected Windows
98/ME compatibility mode in the Compatibility tab. And guess what? It fixed
the glitch. Go figure.

Hi Max,

I'm afraid that the invoking "soffice 12i05-Herder.oot" from the console leads
to crash (swriter leads to crash, too).

soffice/swriter work fine when opening an .odt file.

I hope this helps. By the way, wouldn't be easier to implement the automatic
conversion to avoid this bug?

>Grammar Checking

a) A Grammar Checking API is being worked on. IIRC, the specs won't be formally
defined untill Fall 2005, _unless_ the community makes a presentation prior to
then.

b) Three "functional" grammar checkers currently exist for OOo. [The two I've
used are painfully slow.]

>Translation from one language to another

Would the original requester elaborate on what they mean by this?

Specifically, are they wanting:
i) Computer Assisted Translation Tools
ii) Machine Assisted Translation Tools

if i) what they want that is not part of either _Vocabulary_ or _OmegaT_.
[To pick the extremes of CATT that integrate with OOo.]

>Optical character recognition

This is _hard_, as in very non-trivial.
Are there _any_ FLOSS tools that do this?

>Speech recognition

This is a function of Accessibility.
This is also non-trivial.
Are there any FLOSS tools that do this?

>Hand writing recognition

This is a function of Accessiblity.
This is also non-trivial.
Are there any FLOSS tools that do this?

For OOo 2.0 the mailmerge component has been completely reworked. Thus it is
unlikely that this issue will reoccur with 2.0. As there won't be much bugfix
releases in the 1.1.x branch until 2.0 will be released in Mid 2005 i already
close this issue as WorksForMe. Thank you, Max

though 17565 is filed for the writer component, it likely concerns also the HTMl

hi all,

i think for easier analysis of this issue it would be helpful to hook in a Basic
macro, which automatically creates a copy of the document in the current state,
thus allowing to build a history of the document. Next time you are opening a
document and get the read error you have the latest versions of the document
available. This would make it easier to reprocude the issue and would give you,
who are struggling with this issue, a working document, from where you would
just have to repeat the last actions done.

The way of hooking in the macro would be to reassign your preferred way of
saving to the modified save-macro: Extras -> Configure...

The macro would look to something like this:

function [Create filename for backup-copy] {
  return.value = actual.filename + increasing_dummy:integer }

main {
  exec_regular_save;
  save_a_copy([Create filename for backup-copy]);
}

Andrew, could you spare a moment for creating this macro in Basic?? :-)
>From writing your macro book you are just so much more qualified than me, who
>is
still struggling with Object Programming in Basic.. ;-)

Doesn't seem like duplicate of 35778, I was able to duplicate 35778. OO crashes
with a message and on subsequent OO start a successful recovery is made. What I
encountered was that OO freezes when I try to correct a word: right click to get
the spelling alternatives, then click outside the selection menu, that is when
it freezes. If I select from given choices then everything was fine. When it
freezes, I have to login from another system & kill the process. On subsequent
OO start, there is no recovery or any indication that the file was visited.

confirming issue.

The activation order in the PDF is always the order in which the elements appear
in the Form-Navigator (=the order in which the elements are inserted into the
document), no matter what activation order you specify.

The only "workaround" is to move the elements around according to the giving
order or using cut'n'paste of the elements to reorder them.

The tab order functions correctly if and only if you add the controls in the
order you want them and then move them around on the page. If you add the
controls out of order and use the Form Navigator to reorder them, then the tab
order is wrong.

Hi again,

cws pj17 should contain all changes now. I'd be glad if you can verify this cws.
There are still several things to be done, but I'd like to do them in separate
cwses.

Opinions?

Acrobat Reader 6.0 and 7.0 automatically assume the tab order for a form is left
to right top to bottom unless a custom tab order is specified in the PDF format.
This only works right for very simple forms. OpenOffice 1.9.62 and 1.9.69
allow you to specify an Activation Order and that works great while in
Openoffice. However, the Activation Order in OpenOffice should relate exactly
to a custom tab order when exported to a PDF. Acrobat 6.0 can make a document
that works with these custom tab orders, but OpenOffice appears not to have that
functionality properly coded to the PDF standards. This would be a nice feature
to have fixed before the 2.0 release version if possible.

Hi,

this issue is for bringing back the old code from goodies/source/inv. Low
priority, but can help you while debugging etc.

I'll create cws pj17 with fixes I have in my tree for about 1 month now.
Regularly tested on Windows, GNU/Linux and Solaris/SPARC.

please let us know, if the issue persists with version 1.1.4.

Thank you and best regards,

This is new in m73. Works perfectly in m72.

It seems to be unlikely that any cws listed in

http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=cws-announce&msgNo=765

could be the cause. So maybe this is cause by some cws that is not marked as
public in EIS.

When inserting a reference for a target, the type of naming for this reference
is selected by a list. Therefore, there isn't a way to use a custom naming for
the reference.
In some languages, such as Greek (and German I could think of), it is necessary
to change the 'category' name of an object, so that when the reference is used
in a text, it would be grammatically correct.
The only way I found this could be done, is by using a plain text category
naming and referencing only by number. But this way, the linking is done only by
number.

My suggestion is that apart from the default naming, there should exist a field
for the user to enter custom text, also linking to a target.

Reproduced under winXp Pro, vers 5.1, build 2600.

Once the empty untitled file has been created, dropping additional spreadsheet
files(tried up to 3) onto the spreadsheet application does not cause the
creation of another empty untitled file.

The attached patch contains the following changes:

- replace "Default" with "${PRODUCTNAME}" in

  officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/UI.xcu

This means that the "Default" color scheme will be named according to the
PRODUCTNAME ("OpenOffice.org" for OpenOffice.org).

- replace "Default" with "${PRODUCTNAME}" in

  officecfg/registry/schema/org/openoffice/Office/UI.xcs

This means that The new color scheme named OpenOffice.org (in case of
OpenOffice.org) will be also pre-selected in Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org -
Appearance dialog.

- adding SCPZIP_REPLACE style for both files to actually make the replacement

I have tested these patches on all platforms I build on (Windows, GNU/Linux/x86
and Solaris/SPARC).

jb: do you have any cws into which you can incorporate this change?

If i agree with you about the duplicate issue 40372 for the feature send email.

For the function export in PDF I think you must froze the feature if the

How do you explain at your user that this behavior is not a bug ?

I propose to open an new ENHANCEMENT.

Where I work we write all of our technical docs as HTML. Lately I have created a
doc with a large number of tables (ex 1 table per page, 50 pages). The software
takes a while to react when I change the length of the doc by adding or removing
one line in the first half of the doc or so. There is no penalty when working at
the end of the doc.

I reproduce this at home this morning by duplicating a 5x5 table 50 times. The
same doc in sxw format is handled perfectly.

Up to now OOo treats all writer-documents as having left pages and right pages.
And in "left to right" languages all odd pages are left and all even pages are
right. You cannot disable this. You can only define, that both use the same
layout.

Thanks, that sounds good! But does that work when I have disabled left and right
side division?

If so, I would suggest renaming this feature or adding the even and odd words,
because it may cause confusion to users.

hi Ousia,

>> I don't see any difference on both methods to open a file
for the computer it makes a difference, see issue 36327.

If you can reprocude the crash with a recent milestone build (f.e. 19m69) we
still have a problem. Otherwise i would close this issue as WorksForMe, because
both issues (crash, when opening a file from Windows Explorer And milestone 69
does not open OOT) would be solved.

Max

Hi Max,

I don't see any difference on both methods to open a file. The oot extension is
not registered (at least on my system) and I have to choose an application to
open it with. The only application in the list is "OpenOffice.org 1.9.69" and if
selected, it will crash when opening the attached file.

And about what "es" told on the oot obsolete file format, I think it would be
fine (even in a product from the development branch) that OOo would perform the
oot > odt conversions automagically. (IMHO ;-)

OOo 1.1.0 Writer contains many case options through Menu Format ->
Case/Characters. Most notable among them are Upper case, Lower case. How about
extending it and adding other case options like Title, Sentence, Toggle case
etc. perhaps you may wish to have a look at the competing office suits in this
matter

These feature requests look really small, but they are really handy and are a
big time savers.

The default fedora boost is apparently recent enough to have all this stuff, but
you're point is good. I'll make a config_office/configure.in test for an up to
date boost.
