OK, sometimes, when openning word files with russian text, the codepage isn't
detected correctly. The fonts are set OK, but the letters are not russian. The
only workaround I know of is to open such files in MS Word and save them in
some
other format. (ie word97 or 2000)

i'd want to create a bullet list in which:
a) the first level is zero centimeters from the left margin
b) all the other levels are 0,64cm from the previous level

i can't do that with ooo 1.9.95.

if in level 1-10 i set: 0,64 relative, and then in level 1 i set: 0 (not
relative) i obtain that:
a) the first level is zero cm from the left margin (ok)
b) the second level is 1,28cm from the first level (not ok!)
c) the other levels are 0,64 cm from the previous levels (ok)

The charcter format attribute language gets lost under certain condidtions
while copy 'n' paste between different OOo Applications.

Try following to reproduce:
- open a new writer document and type some text
- check language setting for this text (leave the default language)
- copy your text (ctrl-c)

- open a new calc document
- enter any cell (press f2)
- paste your text (ctrl-v)
- check language setting of the cell

- Language attribute is empty

Same behaviour, if you paste the text to a draw textbox or impress text area
This has been tested with m95 + german language pack WinXP and happens, if
default language is not changed for the copied text (no matter, if this is
GErman or English)

When you save or autosave kicks in the refresh after save jumps to where the
cursor is.

If you've just opened a large document (60+ pages in my case) and are just
checking through it when autosave saves the doc you will be sent to where the
cursor is which is often right at the start, at which point you have to trawl
through you document trying to find where you were.

I think the program should really remember what you're viewing not just where
the cursor is.

This is very annoying in very large documents.

I wasn't sure which sub-component to put this in, I've dropped it in UI for now.

Chris.

proposal for File Locking paragraph:

delete (see issue 46008)

In the default setting, file locking is turned off in OpenOffice.org. To
activate it, you have to set the appropriate environment variables
SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING=1 and export SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING. These entries are
already in disabled in the soffice script file.

Change the following text:

Warning: The activated file locking feature can cause problems with Solaris
2.5.1 and 2.7 when used in conjunction with Linux NFS 2.0. If your system
environment has these parameters, we strongly recommend that you avoid using the
file locking feature. Otherwise, OpenOffice.org will hang when you try to open a

This is a really critical issue for everyone who wants to use Impress for more
than just a really simple slide show (one slide one content, no animations). It
really happens easily that one is to trigger handy or that a question arrises
from the audience about what was just shown etc.
I beg you *PLEASE* do not postpone this until 2.0.1!

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=48511
  Issue #:|48511
Summary:|Lose hyperlink formatting when exporting from sxw to
  |Microsoft doc
Component:|Word processor
  Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta
 Platform:|PC
  URL:|http://pascalv.freeshell.org/pub/20050501_OOo_Report/
   OS/Version:|Windows XP
   Status:|UNCONFIRMED
Status whiteboard:|
 Keywords:|
   Resolution:|

 Priority:|P3
 Subcomponent:|formatting
  Assigned to:|mru
  Reported by:|pascalv

2005 ---
SUMMARY

It would be a good upgrade if the hyperlinks formatting could be preserved when
exporting to Microsoft Word doc format as it is currently preserved when
exporting to RTF format

EXAMPLE:

Take a sxw file with hyperlinks (test.sxw at
http://pascalv.freeshell.org/pub/20050501_OOo_Report/)

Some Type 1 links have the automatic formatting of hyperlinks (blue and
underlined).
Some Type 2 links have a special formatting (example Bold, Black and *not*
underlined).

FIRST EXPORT:
Save this test.sxw file as RTF format file test_from_OOo_to_RTF.rtf

Open this new rtf file with Microsoft Word 2003

Results:
Type 1 links are OK
Type 2 links are OK == GOOD

SECOND EXPORT:
Save the test.sxw file as Microsoft Word XP doc format file
test_from_OOo_to_doc_XP.doc

Open this new doc file with Microsoft Word 2003

Results:
Type 1 links are OK
Type 2 links have become like Type 1 links == PROBLEM

THIRD EXPORT:
Open the test_from_OOo_to_RTF.rtf file with Microsoft Word 2003
Save as test_from_OOo_to_RTF_from_Word2003_to_doc.doc

Results:
Type 1 links are OK
Type 2 links are OK == GOOD but need 2 exports for get doc file with preserved
hyperlinks formatting

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION:
Convince Recruiters to accept resumes in other format than Microsoft Word doc

Columns with hatched fill in the bar chart in the attached MSOffice documents
turn different shades of grey when imported into OpenOffice.org.

Affects at least OOo versions 680m95, 680m79 and 1.1.4 under Windows 2000, and
version 1.1.3 under Ubuntu Linux (hoary/5.04, liveCD).

I first noticed the problem in Writer (when reading this document:
http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/0/545CAC0F7F818959CC256FE7008344A1/$File/chathamislandsfocus.doc),
but it seems to have more widespread effects (as the attached documents show).

Could this be related to issue 23714?

[api-issues] [Issue 45803] StarBasic says not implemented for DLL functions

I think it could be another problem with this system, so I don't know if
I should continue to bother you about it. Out of the 318 OOO DLLs and 18
OOO EXEs checked, Dependency Walker only found two missing dependencies
(MSCOREE.DLL and JAWT.DLL), but restoring those didn't fix StarBasic.

It would be nice to know what StarBasic needs for calling DLLs, so I could
investigate it further. I don't understand C++ well enough to learn from the
OOO source code. I don't know what problem this system could have that would
cause it to give the Not implemented error.

(The crash, by the way was due to improper installation, and was fixed)

2.0 Beta v 1.0.79.

Slide Notes data content created in OOo Impress is lost when saved as powerpoint
file and reopended in OOo. This is a repeatable defect. General dialog warns of
possible formatting and content loss although no specific warning that notes
content loss is a known limitation or defect within OOo.

Similarly, notes content created in Powerpoint 2000 and then opened in OOo is
visible but is lost again when saved as a PPT file within OOo.

First off, I am using an english version. I'm not sure how to send such a
document because it crashes when I try to make one. Here are the steps I do when
making a new document;

Open OpenOffice using the command openoffice-1.9.
In the File Menu, New subcategory, click on text document.
In the Format Menu, click Page
Click to the Page tab.
Change all four Margins to 1.00 (I use Letter paper format which
  is default on my machine)
Click on Header tab.
Click header on.
Change Spacing field to 0.10
Click on More button, this brings up the borders/background
Add a bottom border, I usually make it 0.50 pt but sometimes I use 0.05 pt
(I change nothing else so it is a black color)
Click OK to close Border/Background
Click OK to close Page Style: Default
Click into the heading part of the document
Type the tab keyboard key twice
Type Page: then the spacebar
In the Insert Menu, Fields submenu, click Page Number
Type ':'
In the Insert Menu, Fields submenu, click Page Count
(I sometimes add a space afterwards just to move it away from the edge)
Click down to the main body of the document
In the Format Menu, click Paragraph (Indents Spacing comes up by default)
Change First Line field to 0.30. (This probably can be any value because
I have had the crash happen with a 0.50 and a 0.23 value)
Click the choice box under Line spacing and select Double.
Click OK button to close the Paragraph
Type one page of text with a few paragraphs. (The first few crashes I used
actual writing but since then I make a few lines of words then
copy and paste it down to a little past the one page mark.)
(I have noticed that sometimes the information in the header disappears)
In the File menu, click save OR click the disk icon on the toolbar.
Give the file a name then click the save button.
(I usually save to /home/Docs/project name but it also crashes when
trying to save to /home/user name )

I am not on my computer right now. I will test to see if it crashes when I do a
[save as] with an existing document taken through the above steps. If that is
the case then I will attach such a file.

I hope I have clarified the steps I take that lead to this crash.

When I save a file to pdf format using writer the file sizes are too large.
They used to tend to be smaller that the office document. For example, I
scanned in a document that created a 70 KB Writer document. The saved pdf file
was greater than 700 KB. Also, I imported a 12 KB document from OOo 1.1.4 that
was 12 KB. it saved in the OOo 2 beta format at 19 KB. The exported pdf file
was 136 KB.

I have a spreadsheet with large amounts of text in the cells. Certain cells
display text that is smaller than the surrounding text, even though i have
appled the same format to all of the cells (I have tried removing all
conditional formatting, applying the default format, updating the default
format, etc).

I thought perhaps there was an issue with the actual sheet, so I copied the text
to the clipboard and pasted it into nedit (a plain text editor). I then
re-copied the text and pasted it into the new sheet. All of the text appeared
the same size, but then suddenly Calc started to work and I watched in horror
as one by one certain cells were resized to the smaller version.

When I make the size of the text larger, all of the text increases in size but
the same problem cells text size stay smaller than the rest.

I finally fixed this problem by doing a reload from the file menu.

Side note: The original document was an XLS worksheet - I saved it as an .ods
file first before going through the steps listed above. Unfortunately I cannot
post this document as it contains private information.

I file this issue in 680m95, but actually I encountered it in a few versions
before this. What I do is:

- create a new database by choosing File-New-Database, then choose Connect to
an existing database, database type ODBC, then select a database, give username
and check Password required;

So far so good, I can test the connection, and the test succeeds

- I save it in OpenDocument Database format

Still OK, I get the database window, with in the leftmost frame the 'Forms' type
of tasks highlighted.

The problem comes when I want to use the Forms wizard, or try to create a form
in the Designer; in both cases OOo reacts with the message 'The field names of
database.table could not be retrieved'

Funny thing is, when I go to the 'Table' type of tasks, and doubleclick the
table concerned, I get the contents of the table -including- their field names.

I couldn't find the issue in the database, though I can hardly imagine no one
stumbled across it... So I may have overlooked it, in which case my apologies.

I run a Suse 9.2 box, on an Acer Aspire 1710 laptop

kind greetings, jehojakim

Added oooqa, needmoreinfo keywords. Changing component to porting, as this is
likely to be a Mac OS
X specific issue.

Where you did get this build from? Did you build it yourself? Begin_OOorg
might indicate this is a
build done by Eric Hoch or Eric Bachard.

I haven't done any testing of OOo on Tiger yet, but will do so shortly, to
confirm this issue.

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 1 11:45:34 -0700
2005 ---
I just installed my version of OOo 1.1.4 (built in Mac OS X 10.2.x) on a system
running Mac OS X 10.4 (a
clean install), and got the following behavior :

1) Running setup - it failed because of a missing /usr/lib/libdl.0.dylib

I fixed this by making a symlink : /usr/lib/libdl.0.dylib -
/usr/lib/libdl.dylib

2) Running setup - during installation, selected the default Java 1.3.1 VM,
got errors about missing
libl.1.dylib, and some dylib related to Java 1.4.2 - both errors I ignored, and
installation completed
successfully.

3) Launched my copy of Start OpenOffice.org, selected X11.app as the
preferred X Window server, and
OOo 1.1.4 launched successfully.

4) Opened an existing OOo document successfully.

So I can not reproduce your problem.

But since the crash appears in the Mac OS X locale stuff, are you running Mac
OS X 10.4 with your
preferred System language as being anything other than US-English?

If your build is one by Eric Hoch or Eric Barchard, I will CC them on this
issue, as they will be doing
some Tiger testing of their (OOo 1.9m9x) builds soon.

[sc-issues] [Issue 48207] lookup() function broken from 1.1.4 - 1.9.95

I don't think it's a duplicate of that issue because I'm not trying to do a
partial match. The index column is all 4-digit numbers and I'm trying to use
the
same 4-digit number to do the lookup. There should only be one match in the
target area, so first vs. last result return shouldn't matter.

Add a sheet to a worksheet. Try to see it in print preview and it does not show
up. Print all pages, and the new sheet does not print. Add a second new sheet,
and both new sheets are unavailable. Saving, closing, and re-opening does not
fix it. Have to drop back to 1.1.4 to print new sheet.

This occurs with sheets that were originally .xls and converted to .sxc. Also
with sheets created in 1.1.4 as sxc (as in the attached files).

This does not occur with sheets created in 1.9.79 (they work fine).

If a grammar checker API cannot be implemented for OOo 2.1, here's an idea for
a replacement that should be easy to implement: change the spell checker API
so that the check method doesn't only get the word to check but also two
strings, one with the context on the right side of the word, another one with
the context on the left side (context = maybe 20 words?). A traditional spell
checker can just ignore these strings. I know that this is a compromise and
not a replacement for a full grammar checker API, but it's better then nothing
(e.g. it would be powerful enough to find the then/than error in this
sentence :-)

XSpellAlternatives could be extended to know of a grammar type error and it
could contain a small human-readable explanation of the error.

Found another case.

If the alignment flag for the push button is set to center and a chart is in the
document the changed flag is set. If you change the alignment to default the
modified flag isn't set.

I tried clicking the Export As PDF button, and the two checkboxes contains the
strings:
 - Automatische Dateinamenserweiterung
 - Selektion

These would be correct if I was using the German version, but I'm not. Nothing
major, just thought I'd mention it.

I'd like to weight in on this one as well.
There are a number of ways that paths to OOo binaries can get into the registry.
The installer is just one of them. Users can right-click on a file, and say
Open With ... and choose the path to an OOo binary. There are most likely
others.

The problem is that with the path changing with each version, a lot of stale
references to uninstalled versions of OOo are left around the place. Clicking on
a file will then result in a dialog saying something along the lines that the
destination file doesn't exist. When I do an OOo upgrade, after I uninstall OOo,
I open regedit, and manually search for all soffice, swriter, and scalc
references and delete them. This is the only way to get a fully functioning
system.

So ... not only should the installer have the option of removing registry
entries that a previous installer may have set, but also of removing *ALL*
registry settings that have anything to do with OOo - whether the installer put
them there or not. Without this, users must be adept at registry hacking to make
OOo work properly, especially when clicking on documents from Windows Explorer.

I make a table.
10 columns, two rows.
In the 2nd column, 2nd row I enter 21:18, meaning for me 21 minutes and 18
seconds. I press tab to move to the next column [3,2].
OO.o writer replaces it with 09:18:00 PM.

I fidget and press ctrl+z, which brings me back to 21:18 in [2,2]. Through a
combination of pressing delete, clicking and getting pissed off I realise there
isn't an obvious way of telling it to fuck off.

I fidget around in the AutoCorrect thinger 'till I realise it has no option to
change it.

I look in the help files. There isn't a mention about it being able to
automatically do that, let alone a way to turn it off.

I experiment. Outside of the table field it doesn't assume I can't understand 24
hour notation. It still thinks I want to write 09:18:00 PM if I write 021:18 or
21 : 18. Furthermore, it assumes I wanted 51:00:00 when I actually typed
21:1800. Adding insult to injury, when I type 035:18 it assumes I wanted
11:18:00 AM instead, which exposes the thinking of the bonehead who wrote that
function.

I can't find a fucking way to turn it off, so here we are.

I now realise that 21m18s works just as well but the point here is that I wanted
to enter 21:18 iand OO.o won't let me/i!

OpenOffice beta 1.9.7 works fine with my Minolta 2340DL using the foo2zjs driver
under Linux. When I upgraded to 1.9.95 printing is now broken. The printer
returns a usless unsupported format by IPP. Downgrading to 1.9.79 fixes it
again.

Of course downgrading using rpms on a non-rpm system is a pain all by itself...

I have two monitors connected, with the desktop set to extend across both
monitors. When I maximize an OOo window (writer and calc tested), the File,
Edit, etc. menus all drop down right-justified, as if they were too near the
edge of the screen to open normally. In the case of the File menu especially,
this makes the dropdown split across both monitors.

Issue tracking query wouldn't load, so I was unable to check for duplicates.

One right clicks and turns off the number formatting.

Sorry guys, but it my vast incompetence I haven't found out how to delete
'issues' from your tracker.

The only standing point is that there ought to be a central reference to these
things, but thats about it.
