I work with a Laptop Sony Vaio in Windows XP Home environment. I have a problem
with OpenOffice 1.9.100 (2 version beta).
I write a document with OpenOffice Write with the previous stable version of
OpenOffice and I have no problems. Now I have opened this document with the beta
version and saved it as *.odt. I work on this document many times but the latest
time many formula contained in the document disappeare, or better they have been
substituted with a carachter present in one formula (it is a dotted V). Moreover
this dotted V is deformed and not in the original size. If I open the tool for
formula wirting I see the dotted V and not the original test.
The document contains many formula and many of them have been replaced with the
dotted V or displaced from the original point.
If it could help you in fixing this bug I can send you the document.
Sara

After I insert formula in my presentation I can not save it. I recieve an

If I close impress after this, I get an Error Report dialog.

In many text editors, if the cursor is placed on the last line of the document
and one presses down-arrow, the cursor will jump to the end of the line (and
similarly with up-arrow on the top-line). I find this a very convenient feature,
which I would love to see in OOo as well, at least as an option.

Some technical considerations for a server which would host more than one
site/subdomains/projects:

LINUX vs. FreeBSD: Instead of Linux it could be used FreeBSD as on the current
surveys and ooauthors.org server. This allows for creating virtual machines on
the same phisical server that would run independently on different IP's.

This is so that we can run say Apache/PHP/MySQL on one virtual machine and on
another one say for example a Zope/Plone setup or other CMS.
They would have independent Apache setups and independent processes. If one gets
compromised, the other environments remain safe. Also, users access control is
tighter by virtual machine.

Other idea:
Supplementary, such a server/application could be setup to answer to two ways
of accessing it. First is services.ooo... type of URL and the secondary, to
allow pointing a domain name to the same machine and have the pages served from
the services.ooo subdomain. This allows for short names to easier remember but
in the same time will display everything from services.ooo domain.

Hello Cristian,

thanks for the advices. As for the FreeBSD, remember we have *hired* a server.
We don't own it as a machine so we're not free to install whatever OS we want.
Nonetheless we are looking forward to have some virtualization capabilities.
As for the CMS, we don't want to host a web site like OOoAuthors. It will be a
server used for localization of OOo, through two tools, Pootle and Marani.
Because of this one mailing list will be enough. Localization discussions and
related work shall stay on http://l10n.openoffice.org and the NLC.

For the domain name: We have set up an aliased DNS system allowing access from
services.ooo or http://dev.arsaperta.org or even bozo.openoffice.fr if we want.
Hope this helps.

Hello
When the next version of MS Office will be published (codename at this day :
office 12), OOo should be support the new Microsoft Office Open XML Formats
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/fileguide.mspx).
These formats are similar to OpenDocument Formats.

I was wondering if it would be possible to integrate any way to avoid
an server side error. A demand of cost effective, rich featured, highly
reliable server side application has been increasing. The well improved
office suite, SO 8, SS 8 and OOo 2.0, can be the best one in the world.

Environment:
Internet Explorer -- Internet Information Services (IIS) --
Server Side VBScript --- CreateObject() -- COM -- soffice.exe

Similarly, Firefox -- Apache -- Tomcat -- JRE -- UNO or URE.

Problems:
Case 1: Time out occurs as soffice.exe starts at the first time
right after installation. IIS runs soffice.exe as a different
user from one who has installed it. i.e. IWAM_machinename or
IUSR_machinename. Therefore, soffice would need to wait for
a user action accepting a software license agreement.

Case 2: Time out happens when soffice.exe attempts to start a recovery
process that currently needs a user interruption.

In the both cases, soffice.exe would never return because nobody can
see a dialog window or take actions unless the special user
IWAM_machinename logs on to the Windows server machine. Consequently,
an end user who made a request would face the following error message
  on her/his web browser.

Error message that appears on the Internet Explorer:
HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error
  Internet Information Services

  Technical Information (for support personnel)

  * Error Type:
Active Server Pages, ASP 0113 (0x80004005)
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded.
You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property
Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.

Quick Look:
A registry database seems to have the following entry of CLSID for
com.sun.star.ServiceManager:
  C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 1.9.104\program\soffice.exe -nodefault -nologo

Options:
  1. Adding a new command line switch to suppress user interaction.
  2. Use Uno Runtime Environment (URE), instead.
 http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=announcemsgNo=245
  3. Something else...

Sample Code (sample.asp):
HTMLBODY
%
Set objServiceManager = Server.CreateObject(com.sun.star.ServiceManager)
Set objDesktop = objServiceManager.createInstance(com.sun.star.frame.Desktop)
Dim args()
Set objDocument = objDesktop.loadComponentFromURL(private:factory/swriter,
_blank, 0, args)
Set objText = objDocument.getText
Set objCursor = objText.createTextCursor
objText.insertString objCursor, The first line in the newly created text
document. vbLf, false
%
Is everything going OK?
/BODY/HTML

Install new dictionaries using the autopilot Install New Dictionaries, no
manual editing of configuration files necessary.

The spellcheck files cannot be distributed with OOo itself because of legal
issues (other licenses). Thus this one is a wontfix.

If you have a dictionary that can be distributed with OOo, then file a new issue
regarding that specific dictionary.

So far there is a possibility in XY Charts to add a new series with new Y
values, but all series have common X values. I'm frequently in need of making xy
chart with x and y values independent for every point. There should be option
for doing that.
If turned on, the data would be interpreted in columns not like X,Y1,Y2,Y3, but
X1,Y1,X2,Y2.

I can not help myself, but OO2.0 icons at not well designed at all.
The worst thing is the main application icons are fairly unreadable in small
sizea. First I thought it is some kind of broken paper, here I found its OO
gulls what seems to make it broken. Even in bigger size it is hardly noticable
this white something are gulls. I recommend to make them at least black e.g. as
in favicon. The icons can not be simply scaled down to look good.

The only thing that makes icons different in small sizes are color, however,
base and impress have pretty same color, as well as math and writer.

All OO2 icons seems to me as they are from ancient time when apps were using 16
color or something like that. As icons are what makes the application nowadays,
they need to get more attention a polish.

Since now it is clear that this is a font-related problem we can close this one.

For the remaining things (shipping more complete fonts with OOo) please file a
seperate issue (only if you know a font that can be redistributed with no
limitations)

If you have a fixed-width-font installed that contains the requested characters
and this font is common (part of linux distribution, etc) please file an issue
against the gsl project so that this font can be added to the list of
fallback-fonts.

Nothing left on this issue, no mutating issues allowed - closing this one.

fonts that lack the characters - nothing to do for formula-editor component.

I found it odd that words like Firefox and Thunderbird were not in the
Thunderbird dictionary. This started a discussion and it was suggested that OOo
should include these words in its diction along with other open sourse related
words.

I have opened this issue so that that process might begin. Either they can be
added to the standard dictionary, or it was suggested that there should be
started an OSS dictionary that all programs could use.

The reason for filing an issue about this is that people can add to the list by
commenting on the issue. I don't really know what to do with the list, but if we
start making one then something can be done eventually, with no list, we can't
do anything.

Here is the beggining list:
OpenOffice.org
Calc
Mozilla
Thunderbird
Firefox
Sunbird
Gimp (Isn't this an acronyn?)
KDE
Linux
GNU
GNU/Linux
FSF
Konqueror
Koffice
AbiWord

Please add more words as you see fit.

I was trying to make a new keyboard shortcut that would allow me to increase the
font. I set it to be 'Ctrl++'. It seemed to have been saved properly because I
can reopen custimization 'Tools Customize.. Keyboard 'Category(Format)'
'Function(Increase Font)' 'Keys(Ctrl++)' and it shows up, both in the 'Keys'
window, as well as above in the 'Shortcut keys' window. Having done this, when i
highlight any letter, word or section and press the Ctrl++ combination, nothing
happens.

I have 1.9.104, but I'm pretty sure this applies to many if not all builds and

Font'. There is one for 'Increase Font' (Tools Customize... Keyboard
Category=Format Function=Increase Font), so even with symmetry, there should
be one to go the other way. In general, these functionalities would be very
useful for any power user, typing up any kind of paper. A workaround that i've
found is to assign a shortcut to 'Size Font', but this requires a few 'Tabs' and
then typing in the font size followed by an enter. Not exactly an ideal
solution.

I use the English version of 1.9.104. The weird thing about this is that it
seems to be inconsistent. I've had success assigning other shortcuts, but this
one seems to have no effect. Have you tried to reproduce this exact shortcut?

I use 1.9.104 English version. When I add a record to the Bibliography database
(Tools Bibliography Database) then close it, and afterward insert a reference
to in in my document, there is no spacing or commas between the fields. I add by
first adding a bibliography table/index item. Then I insert a bibliographical
entry into the document. Then i update the table so that the entry shows up. You
can see i the attached screenshot (look at the second entry) to see that all of
the fields are meshed together into a single, unspaced string (except for my
name). I have found that if i create the entry differently by entering values
directly into the 'spreadsheet' part of the bibliography database entry instead
of using the form directly below, and include deliberate spaces, that this
sometimes puts the spaces into the final results that appears in the document.
You can see that in the screenshot under the Bibliography section, first item.
You can see that '1976' is spaced. This space had to be forced using the method
mentioned above. Shouldn't there be commas in between the fields anyway?

The 'ezmlm warnings' mention various wormvirusses as reason..
However the antivir says the sys is clean.

I have tested this on WinXP, Eng-Us version, 1.9.104, 1.9.108. Basically, when I
instert a bibliography and later insert intries into the document, the
bibliographical references in the table do not show their corresponding number.
This can be seen in the attached screenshot. It should be noted that the 'number
entries' option is used in the 'bibliography's 'formating of entries'' (just see
the screenshot).

I confirm that this remains the behavior of 1.9.104, but that's beside the
point.

Majorly is a slang word, according to the dictionary.com reference given
below. Even if slang words are some times included in the standard dictionary,
this seems a very low-priority issue--a P5 at the very worst.

And like many other words that one or another user may use but that are not in
the default dictionaries, there is an easy (and purpose-built) workaround: The
Add to Dictionary feature. ;-)

I'd vote to close this issue.

WinXP, En-Us 1.9.104.
1. I have added bibliographical entries to my Tools Bibliography database.
2. I have later inserted a Bibliography section (Insert Indexes and tables
indexes and tables Type=Bibliography).
3. Then I added into my document entries that come from that table. When I
update the table, all of the entries from the entrie document show up in the
Bibliography table. All good for now. (well, not really, but I've submitted
other bugs for other stuff)

So now, if i decide that something about some entry is incorrect and I go into
the Database via (1.), if i change the entries of interest, either by modifying
fields or adding some new ones, and then try to get it to update within the
document, i get no response. It seems to me that if I right click on the
database, the click 'update index/table', these new changes should update in
bibliography section of the document.

I confirm this report. As described in step 8 below, the graphic is suddenly
not visible.

The HTML is not harmed, however, and it still points to the correct image file.
If one does FileReload at this point, the picture becomes visible again and
all is well.

But that is not necessarily a great workaround, to ask users to constantly
Reload ! Moreover, if one makes changes in the Web Layout and then saves, the
underlying HTML is then greatly broken. Instead of a correct image location,
some sort of temporary cache location is inserted. In my case this value is:

IMG SRC=../Local%20Settings/Temp/svjde.tmp/vmason.gif ...

I suspect that this problem is related to several other issues that cite image
loss with HTML editing.

Yes, I tried exact this shortcut. Shortcuts depend on the language of the User
Interface so I played around with it. I once got your described behavior but
could not identify the circumstances. After restarting OOo all works fine.

If you use different User Interface-languages, you must define the shortcuts
for each of them.

Please try once more to assign 'Increase font' to 'Strg++', close quickstarter
and restart OOo afterwards. Does the problem still occur? If yes, exact
description of your system and OOo (distinguish between EN-UK and EN-US) and
step-by-step description of your handling is nescessary, so that your problem
can be reproduced.

Confirm the crashing behavior described by emav on his nt sample file when using
1.9m104.

One additional detail: The bottom status bar for Writer indicated 'fault'. It
also said I had 310 pages in the document; but there were only 269 when I loaded
the document in the first place.

This may be related to document size. I will submit a small test case I built
in which the Find/Replace on ^$ works as desired.

Please : one problem, one issue. This is the rule here. If you have found other
problem(s), search if an issue isn't already open for it, and fill a new one if
not.

If 1.1.2 doesn't work after update with Mac OS X 10.4, please uninstall it
completely.

About twain issue : I always use SANE, and test myself with a Linux SANE server
present in my network. For me, it works, even with two scanner in the same time
(I have).
Please open a new issue if you are sure it's not a problem with your
configuration.

About 1.1.4 not starting : which Mac OSX version are you using ? and where did
you download OOo, and which version ? I'm not sure your install is even clean...
Without these informations, we cannot help you with efficiency.

Thank's in advance.

By default, Gnome expects program icons to be collected in /usr/share/pixmaps;
the Create-Launcher dialog, for example, looks there. The preferred formats
appear to be (1) PNG, (2) XPM. XBM might work, but I've had problems depending
on the usage.

As it is, I have been unable to locate the program icons anywhere (e.g. under
/opt/openoffice.org1.9.104.

Please include making a copy as part of the install scripts.

Thats a known problem, see issue 44189. I've you are interested in improvement
of bibliographic, see also issue 4260.

You can workaround this by inserting the reference as dummy somewhere. You will
be ask, if all the entries should be updated. Afterwards you can delete the
dummy-reference.

The update index/table only updates the bibliography which you generated in your
document.

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 44189 ***

(This was more important under MS Windows, however it is still an annoyance)

Sometimes, the default locations for the programs (for 680_m104:
/opt/openoffice.org1.9.104) or the user's files (~/.openoffice.org1.9.104) may
not be optimal for a particular installation. Some of us have our own quirky
idea of where to put things. For instance, I would rather continue the pattern
used by 1.4 of putting the user's file in ~/.openoffice.org/version/... .

The user files should be locatable with the GUI for the initial program run;
although a default set by the site-admin would be good.

A simple prompt for the base install directory would do the trick for the
program location.
I expect the default user location would require editing some script or
template. This issue requests you publish the information which would allow
that to be done.

You can adjust the appearance of the bibliography-table to your needs.
Rightclick on the bibliography and choose 'Edit index/table' and then the tab
'entries'. First choose 'Type', then build your Structure. You can directly
insert characters. To insert a field select it in the list and then click
'Insert'.
Be careful, the All-button applies the current structure to all types.

Further testing of the ^$ RegEx on other documents caused no problems. Is it
possible that the reported crashes are due to the history of the initially
attached file (nt.odt)? It started as a MS Word document which was then
consecutively transformed to the OpenOffice format versions 1.1 and 2.0.

Choose 'Custom' during installation. There you can set the installation-path.
The setting remains even if you go back and then choose 'Complete'.

The path for the user-files can be set after the installation, before the user
calls OOo first time. The entry is in the file bootstrap.ini (Linux
bootstraprc) in the directory program, the line UserInstallation=.

That's for a first help.

Hi

I find that in both Impress and Write the superscript hot key works perfectly
(CONTROL+SHITF+P) but the subscript hot key replaces my selected text with an
underlined, bold, capital B instead of making the selection subscript.

I checked Tools-Options-Keyboard and the settings are correct. So I don't know
if there is a problem with the choice of keys - shouldn't work for superscript
then or if somewhere there is a mapping problem? I didn't modify any settings so
teh default doesn't work.

Cheers,
Mark

Confirm this generate multiple graphics is the current behavior (in 1.9m104).
It does not help to put the graphics in a frame. They're still generated in

Confirm this error. It appears to be related to the column spanning (aka cell
merging) function. js181096's table uses a span on the bottom column.

In order to eliminate the chance of some historical data corruption from an
eariler OOo rev, I created a new, but similar table from scratch in 1.9m104.

No joy. If there are 5 spanned columns, OOo seems to want to insert 6 new
columns rather than the 1 requested. The placement of those columns in
relationship to the span, combined with the fact that I get no such error unless
spanning is involved, suggest the insert function is not adequately handling the
span situation.
