[sw-issues] [Issue 57417] New - Right-click on optio n on word with search web web dictionary

These are available as right-click menu options when highlighting word/s and then right-clicking. I use these extensively and when in writer I regularly find myself selecting words and then copying these words to Firefox to search either the web or the web dictionary (user definable preference). Instead of me selection words and heading over to Firefox, it would be great if I could do it there and then from writer. So I'm envisaging that writer provide a facility whereby I could add “self configurable right-click menu options” whereby I could state the program to be invoked as well as the arguments to be passed. Should this be available I could add my browser of preference being Firefox and the arguments, being the URL I'd want the stated program (browser) to navigate to, then if writer could populate the argument variable with the words I selected when right-clicking, then viola I'm searching the web or the web dictionary or web Thesaurus from within writer. Please would you give this request serious consideration? Kind regards Emmanuel - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I can compare the behavior of the different versions on two different distros, google a bit, twiggle a little bit, but I am no developer of any kind of software. 4) Nevertheless thanks, I did the following commands as USER (before, I did this as root only, you're right) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ export LANG=de_DE [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ export LC_ALL=de_DE [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ export LC_CTYPE=de_DE [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~]$ LC_CTYPE=de_DE soffice - now it works. I apologize for not having understood everything properly in the first place, but get another distro is a bit rude ... all I did was trying to help and for the average User the behavior of OOorg2 after installation on Debian stays a little bit odd. Maybe one could include a remark in a readme.debian or a remark about the locales in the release notes? Since OOorg was the ONLY program that had this kind of issue on this system (even when in your eyes the system might have an issue). Thanks. It also needs an exception list of words not to capitalize when Title Case is applied. WordPerfect does this, and the exception list is a configuration file that can be edited. Ideally, this exception list would be editable from the Autocorrect dialog, as is the case for two initial capitals and abbreviations. I suggest what would be nice would be something that let you 'measure' a box and set the font characteristics based off that box. So I would see it that you would select this tool and click on the top left of the first box on a row and then click on the bottom right of the same box and then the top left of the next box (to cope with spaces between boxes). That would then set font size and spacing appropriately. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [l10n-issues] [Issue 57426] New - Wrong default font f or Greek, full width Asian font is chosen
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=57426 Issue #:|57426 Summary:|Wrong default font for Greek, full width Asian font |is chosen Component:|l10n Version:|OOO 2.0 Beta2 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|Linux Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|sba Reported by:|simos --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Nov 6 05:49:55 -0800 2005 --- In a default installation of OpenOffice.org, when you write in Greek (for example, in Writer), the default font chosen is an Asian full-width font. This Asian font 1. has Greek characters due to a Japanese/Korean standard requiring them. 2. however it is full width (spacing is to big for western languages) 3. however it lacks characters with accents (they do not appear on screen) Free/open-source fonts with Greek characters are 1. FreeFonts (FreeSans, FreeSerif, FreeMono), available by default with most Linux distributions 2. MgOpen fonts (MgOpen Canonica, MgOpen Moderna, MgOpen Cosmetica, MgOpen Modata), available by default in Ubuntu Linux. Fonts found at http://www.ellak.gr/fonts/mgopen/ a href=http://util.openoffice.org/source/browse/util/officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/VCL.xcu;VCL.xcu /a does not have a section for Greek. Adding such a section and including Greek fonts appears to solve the problem. However, when you choose from the font menu a font to display greek text, and this font does not have greek characters, OOo falls back to the Asian font. According to the last comment at a href=http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=16746;bug 16746/a, Greek characters have been treated wrong in the past (as CTL chars) see also issue 30465. This will finally work in OO.o 1.1.3 (not yet available). Considering issue as fixed. I am not sure if there is a regression here. I have created a custom VCL.xcu which includes a greek font (FreeSans) in every field for the en and el sections. When I choose a font that does not have Greek for some Greek text, the Asia font is chosen. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. For example, I get the same behaviour with Ubuntu 5.10. a. Lines 1, 2 Here you can notice that characters are missing; there are characters that have accents on them. The Asian font chosen here conforms to a Japanese/Korean standard that requires Greek characters, however apparently it does not require greek characters with accents. There was a discussion on this at the fontconfig mailing list (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/fontconfig/) in September (due to some issue, archiving of the list stops at August). b. Lines 3-6 (default font) and 7-10 (FreeSans) In line 3, the asian font is used for all characters apart from Omega In line 4, some letters are shown with the asian font. In line 5, all but pi (π) is shown with the asian font. In line 6, all but one character is even shown. In lines 7-10 you can see the correct display of the Greek text corresponding to 3-6. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It displays all sheets, and the page number and total number of pages are inaccurate (and the total changes). In Options, I have chosen to print only selected sheets. In the footer, I have made the left side show page number and total pages. When previewing my work before actually printing, it shows 3 of 10. The selected worksheet has eight pages, so it should display 1 of 8. Using the previous page and next page buttons, I looked through all pages of the preview, which was all the sheets in my workbook. When I returned to the starting page, it then displayed 3 of 13. When actually printing, the page numbers and total number of pages were printed correctly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It's possible you guys did it on purpose. Here is my situation. I am tracking something by day. In the top most line heading is the date in question. Underneath are 4 columns corresponding to the information I want to track. They are subheadings. I've merged the four columns in to one cell for the date heading so that date applies to all four columns. This then repeats across the sheet to represent the whole week. What I want to do is enter the date in the first column, and use the autofill to fill in the other columns. When I try to do this, I get dates for every 4 days, because OpenOffice still treats the merged cell as 4 cells. I don't think it's 4 cells anymore, that's the whole reason I merged them. This is not the way that other spreadsheet programs that I've used function. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=44950 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Nov 6 08:38:35 -0800 2005 --- I seem to have found: 1) Installing on cleaned system work OK, even for nonstandard partitioning on MSWin2k. 2) OOo uninstallers seem not to uninstall some parts in registry that i would think should be uninstalled, plus the startup link. 3) Installing on non OOo-cleaned system seem to have the issues bencoman reported; if I remember what i have done correclty i had the same problem, but I am out of spare time to mess up the system that much again now... - Details: - Like bencoman i use several partitions. System reside on L:\ , programs on F:\ user files, temporary files, backups etc on other partitions... (That made reinstall much easier - Win2k too often made spaghetti of my system before SP3) OS: Win2k-SP4, originally english, but some patches are swedish. the system have never seen any MSoffice part, but Staroffice 6 and lot of OOo versions from pre OOo1 to now OOo2RC3. I decided to steal time to test this issue, only finding out *no* user have correct linking of MSO files anymore!?! (.ppt not known to system, .xls erroneously pointing to an uninstalled now nonexistant location of OOo, .doc to wordpad) That is weird as i for obvious reason always (unless i forgot this time) select OOo to open MSO formats. Maybe i forgot. Maybe it was caused by me uninstalling OOo1.4 - I do not remember wether I uninstalled it before or after OOo2RC, and maybe it was OOo1.4 that opened MSO formats, but then I also have forgotten to check thoose boxed for all OOo2 betas, and that is not very plausible - i am almost certsin i have read MSO formats on OOo2 beta. And i did uninstall OOo2 beta before installing RC) The only office application on the system now is OOo2RC3 swedish. So i run the OOo2 installer selecting repair: no change. Run it again (under adminiistrator privilegies of course) selecting change (or what was the word), and checked the MSO formats, and then MSO formats works correct for admin, but not for any other user, not even new ones, standard or restricted. Frankly I do not know how it is supposed to work: maybe ol users are meant not to be affected, but I think new users shuld get the MSO files link like last time an administrator have set it? No? Getting annoyed I: 1) uninstalled OOo2 1b)rebooted 2) deleted any Openoffice folder and file I could find left in program folder, and user settings 3) in registry agressively deleted any thing i could think of: containing OOo, openo, soffice, stardiv, application/vnd.sun. 3b) rebooted I also realised that the uninstaller forgot to remove the startup link to the quickstarter. (maybe because it is generated by the program, not installer?) At least for the other administrator priviligied user. Seem like a bug. The uninstallers also seem to have left keys from all Openoffice versions in at least two places, one is HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\ , the other i forgot. Seem like another bug. 4) Installed OOo2svRC3, to F:\OOo2\, selecting all MSO formats. Ran DictOOo from menu to get swedish dictionary. 5) Everything OK from other users, both MSO links and dictionary 6) Also all OK for new users created. (One last note that might be related: i have earlier experienced problems between antivirus software and programs, including installers, therefore I nowadays shut of antivirus during install/uninstall after having it checked the install archive.) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is has been brought up in issue #48913. It was already OK in the late Betas and RCs, but in the official 2.0 release, it happens again. When we set the number format in a cell or a column prior to entering it, it will revert to Text format when we enter a value. For example, a cell is set to number format of #,##0.00 (Category: Number; Format: -1,234.12; Format Code: #,##0.00). When we enter a value 5, we expect the value in the cell to be 5.00 and right justified but instead it became 5 and left justified. Hopefully, it can be rectified quickly. Installed fresh WinXP SP1 onto C: drive, then installed OOo2.0.0. Observed that file associations WERE OKAY for accounts other than the installer. 2. Installed fresh WinXP SP1 onto D: drive, then installed OOo2.0.0. Observed that file associations WERE OKAY for accounts other than the installer. btw, I have only been concerned with odt files, not MSO files. MSO has never been on my main machine which has the problem. However the problem still occurs on my main machine, so I also thought a previous uninstall might have an impact. I can't remember how I installed previous versions of of OOo on my main machine, however the following testing didn't bear fruit: 3. Installed fresh WinXP SP1 onto C:, then installed OOo1.9.118. Observed file associations WERE set okay for accounts other than installer. 4. Removed 1.9.118. Observed the odt file icon didn't immediately change from OOo icon to a nothing icon. 5. Logged to another account with XP Fast User Switching and back again and it was odt file was correctly a nothing icon. 6. Installed 2.0.0. Observed odt file correctly had OOo icon for installer and non-installer. Neither did: 7. Uninstalled 2.0.0. Observed the odt file icon didn't immediately change from OOo icon to a nothing icon. 8. Immediately installed 2.0.0. Observed odt file correctly had OOo icon for installer and non-installer. [l10n-issues] [Issue 57426] Wrong default font for Gr eek, full width Asian font is chosen
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=57426 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Nov 6 10:16:25 -0800 2005 --- To sum up, the issue here is that when OOo tries to display Greek and the currently selected font does not have Greek characters, a fallback to an Asian font takes place which is inappropriate for Modern Greek. I have no idea how to influence this internal behaviour; this appears to be the core of the problem. It is possible to get OOo to choose Greek fonts by adding a section for Greek (el) to VCL.xcu. This would fix the issue when the end-user uses the Greek locale. However, when the default locale is other than Greek, (such as English, en), and the font does not have Greek characters, the problem appears. This is a common occurence for different configurations that end-users have. In fontconfig, we placed free (open-source) fonts with Greek characters higher than the CJK fonts (see https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4639) which solves the problem. With each new office suite and word processor release we become more concerned that software companies like Sun Microsystems, Corel, and even community projects like OpenOffice.org are more interested in competing with Microsoft Office than they are in developing excellent software. The new features and enhancements in each release are all about doing what Word does or mimicking Excel. Why not just worry about adding features and improvements that users want, rather than play catch-up with Microsoft? StarOffice 8 leaves us with that catch-up feeling. It is a good office suite -- better than Microsoft Office for the money, and better technically in many ways -- but it's trying too hard to be like the market leader. We'd rather see an intelligently designed office suite with a fresh approach than one that can do everything that Microsoft Office can. http://software.newsforge.com/software/05/09/23/198225.shtml I wholeheartedly agree. The concern expressed in above quote is exactly my criticsm of OOo. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
