Important from MS Power Point (Office2000) an org chart. The org chart used the
connector tool and standard text boxes. The lines drawn with the connector tool
showed incorrect and the lines needed to be redrawn. 

The connector tool in PP allows you on to connect to points and it autmatically
draws a line between them. 

While not a big thing, it seems that the important from MS (in my view a key
feature of OO) has still issues.

After spending about an hour making changes to a document then trying to save it
as a Word 97/2000 (.doc) document, I received an error message:

OpenOffice.org 2.0
Error saving the document .odt
General Error.
General input/output error.

I suspect this first occurred because I had the corresponding .doc file open in
Microsoft Word 2000, which uses exclusive locking, so OpenOffice Writer was
probably denied access to the file.

What is a major problem is that: a) even after closing Microsoft Word, I cannot
save the document as a .doc as I originally intended b) even if there was an I/O
error, I now can't even use File->Save As... to save on a different drive.

It's also strange that the error message seems to affect the original source
document (.odt) rather than the destination exported document (.doc).

I have tried removing the original source document, but to no avail.  It seems
there is nothing I can do to clear this error state.  The original document is
on a Linux SMB server.  Everything on the server seems fine.  (sufficient free
disk space, smbstatus shows no locked files, nothing interesting in the logs.)

This seems to be very similar to issue 41588.  People there assure me that it's
fixed in a pre-2.0 milestone, yet I am using OOo 2.0 release.

discovered that copy and paste doesn't function at all while editing master
documents.

It's pretty easy to duplicate, just create a document with multiple master

"Plot area" sounds good to me. (I'm not a native English speaker, so my
terminology tends to be off the mark anyway.)

I'd prefer a terminology that can be uniformly applied to 2D and 3D though.
I'd associate "plot area" with the place where the plot actually lives, i.e. for
a 3D graph, I'd associate the term with a 3D "area".
Maybe "plot background" makes clear that these planes are not in the same place
as the plot, but *behind* it.
(Maybe even "plot backdrop", but here I'm not too sure about my grasp of English
terminology.)

With "plot background/backdrop", 3D charts can share terminology for the
vertical planes and use their own for the horizontal one, so that should work 
IMHO.


Re "distinguish area 1 and 2": I was trying to find a terminology for the
current structure, which most definitely has separate inner and medium areas.
(This can be verified by tabbing through the subcomponents of a Chart -
fortunately, tabbing *does* work in Chart *g*.)
The middle area takes up inner area and axes. I agree that it would be nice if
the axes were made subcomponents of the inner area, and the middle area were
removed (at least GUI-wise - I have no idea of the technical side of things).
However, that's a different issue, and should be filed by somebody with a better
understanding of the ramifications. However, *if* an issue is filed, 58159
should be made to depend on it - there's no use discussing terminology until the
set of objects that need to be named is nailed down for good!


Re "background area":
My first association was that a background is the least important thing, which
is clearly the (by default) white background of the entire Chart object. The
plot background has a background color, a border line, maybe a grid and scales,
that's far more than "just a background" (at least in comparison to the boring
white background provided by the Chart object).
That's just my thinking, of course - I'm happy to agree to disagree here :-)))

Hi,

in my opinion the dialog for autoformatting charts could be improved, especially
the page where the user can choose between different chart-types.

1) Make it possible to resize the dialog, so you may see all of the types at 
once.

2) Show a short description of the chart-type beside the icon. If you don't
know, it's very hard to get a x-y-chart, so in past I thought this is
impossible. because the icon shows dots what I do not associate with x-y-charts.
(See attached image and Issue 14784, where the user had the same problem)

3) what about a "real" x-y-chart with a axes-cross (in the middle) and arrows at
the top/right of the axes? The cross might be a good icon, too.

In calc The note box size and placement changed from where they were in 1.1.4.
The pop up when hover over note were in their default locations and sizes when 
originally saved in 1.1.4. When opening in 2.0 some location and size were 
good, 
while others were very small and /or moved far from the cell.
The note box can be resized and moved as desired in 2.0 so this is easily 
overcome.

Is there any chance of some movement on this issue some time soon? I would 
really like to move over to OO 2.0, I am currently stuck on 1.1.5 for day-to-
day work, and OO 641 for export.

To summarise and simplify, if I start with a good Excel file (will try to 
attach) I can read it in with any OO version and it displays correctly, but if 
I then save it in any format (Excel or native) by OO 2.0 or 1.1.5 and open 
that version (by anything), the strings are hidden.

Hi cgu :)

Thanks for your reply. The powerpoint was created in 2000. However I have 
since updated the powerpoint (about two days ago.) To do that I used MS 
Powerpoint 2003. So I imported the 2000 file into 2003 Pro. Then simply saved 
it again.

Please note that link to the download is now another file. 

The previous presentation I uploaded was opened in Open Office and then saved 
as a powerpoint presentation from there. As I didn't have MS Office on my comp 
at the time.

So I'll outline the issues I am currently facing when importing my 
presentation. Please redownload the file as it is now updated. 

1. On slide 9 (The lady with hands on head in pain) When the slide is viewed I 
get the image with a white sort of border around the edge of the image. If you 
look at the image when its not showing the slideshow it is fine. This then 
disappears when the image has finished loading. Another image this happens 
with is on slide 10 (The drawing of a man with his hands touching his head. In 
the top left) Again once this has loaded the border disappears.

2. On slide 8 when the fire appears. The speech bubble with the text "I only 
flicked the switch at the back of the computer. Some of that goes behind the 
image and then reappears. This is when the image has finished loading. Can 
this be fixed? I think this is possibly due to when the sound has finished 
playing the speech bubble goes back to normal. You will also notice on slide 9 
when the guy in the suit on a blue background animates (moves from top 
downwards.) When it goes over the text. The text disappears behind it. When 
the animation stops. The text appears again. This is also the case with the 
text on slide 11. I have tested this in PP 2003 and this does not occur.

3. On slide 4. When the text has finished animating. It seems to smoothen. Is 
this normal? I think I have the answer to why I thought it was the animations 
being slugish. As rollab said the next animation is not playing until the 
sound has finished. I think this is why I thought Open Office was running 
slowly. I'd never thought of this reason before.

4. On slide 12. The sound that I have imported does not play. Where the 
speaker icon is when clicked nothing happens. However I have tested this on MS 
Office 2000 and 2003 and it does work. I have tested it on a few computers as 
well. When the sound is playing it does not allowed you to stop it and go onto 
the next animation.

5. On slide 13 when you hover over the picture of me it goes wonky. The 
picture of me is on the left and right.

6. Finally, when I saved the presentation from Open Office to a 97/2000/XP 
none of the sound is saved with the file.

I hope I have made my points clear. Sorry if I have caused any confusion. 
Thanks for your help. If you need any more help resolving these issues please 
feel free to ask.

I have installed sshfs http://fuse.sourceforge.net/sshfs.html that works with
user file systems in linux (FUSE) and the error has desappear.

The bug is only present on shfs-0.35 that isn't intended to be for production
use. So, why ooo developer must worry about?

Some people had the same problem using NFS, but looks like in this case
commenting the locking variable in soffice or remounting with nolock should 
work.

Yes, I know all you say. This does not work in SuSE 10 and as an user said in
9.3 too. Tried with kde, gnome and xvwm, displaymanagers kdm and gdm. 
OO.o is community build by Pavel Janik (m140). 
In 9 cases from 10 oo.o started when logging in, showed splash and went to
background. In one case (Gnome/gdm) OO opened Writer window with empty document.
I'm trying to find user who can confirm this.

I checked with “2.0 German version WIN XP: [680m3(Build8968)]” and found out:
In attachment "screenshots.png" for issue 58397

You see that help text "Menu reference" is "Datei - Assistenten -
Internet-Assistenten", but the correct reference is "Datei - Assistenten -
Web-Seite"

Additionally, The heading of the help text is "Web Assistent", but the Menu is

The problems with selection of objects within charts are more precisly described
in Issue 58161 and will be handled there.
So this Issue is will finally handle the chart activation mechanism only

The problem is fixed.
Although there are still three ole objects that do not look good. It seems that
they have no replacement image, and one of them seems to be broken. But this is
document problem.

The bullet symbols, especially those for level 2 and 3, are a bit too large and
not 100% aligned to the writing base line. Seems that the font or the default
settings for size have to be changed sligthly.

fixed on cws sj31,

MainSequence::setTrigger() crashed because the shape animation effect didn't had
an effectsequence set. Fixed setTrigger to handle effectsequence pointers of 
zero.

The problem surfaced because CustomAnimationEffect::clone() created a
CustomAnimationEffect which didn't copied the effectsequence from its original
effect. The cloning happened during creation of the animation effect for the 
shape.

I also added an assertion to CustomAnimationPane::changeSelection() for shapes
without an effectsequence. This should not happen and such effects are now 
ignored

sw->sba: Not really an API issue ... just open the attached document 13074.doc
and when it is open use the "cursor down" key to scroll down ... around page 10
it will all of a sudden stop moving down.
