ebishoff: What about the following?

1. implement --disable-kde-addressbook, the default should be --enable-...

2. if KDE3.2, turn it on by default

kendy, rene: can you please help Eric to implement this?

[dba-issues] [Issue 59673] please split KAB SDBC dri ver library into two libs

1) Unfortunately, building StarOffice (as opposed to building OpenOffice.org)

does not necessarily happen on a KDE system.

Well, one could build for example OOo on a Redhat system with GNOME and no
KDE. Am I correct if I say that it can happen exactly the same for OOo than
for StarOffice? (although I suspect that packagers at RedHat will use a build
machine with every possible desktop environment on it).

2) For the moment, this was fixed by hacking the installation-builder process

so that the LD_LIBRARY_PATH also includes the KDE libs (thanks Ause).

But you were saying that you were building on a non-KDE system? So how can it
gain access to the KDE libs? Can you please elaborate a bit more?

3) This hack is to be removed.

I suppose that I need the answer to item 2) to understand why this hack is so
bad. Or perharps you could explain a bit more here as well?

4) A clean solution would be to split the KAB driver

 a) Isn't that a generic problem of all drivers?
 b) For which version would we target that? I have other bug reports
related to the KDE address book driver, so we could do that together
in one big CWS, although I suspect that splitting the driver library
might involve more work than the other bug reports.

Sorry for the newbye questions, but I am not very familiar with the StarOffice
build process, as you may imagine...

personally I'd do:

1. --disable-kdeab (or similar). enable be the default

2. check for the KDE version in configure. fail is it's 3.2 and point
to disable-kdeab. Or even better (if possible: check specifically
   for the member)

(which basically is what you proposed, but s/on/off/ at 2. and failing at 2.
Becauae if people want the KDE ab I don't think silently disabling it is a good
idea...)

But I can do that yes, Reassigning to me. (Hope you and ebischoff don't mind ;)
)

I prefer second solution, because it attracts the attention of the person
trying to build, instead of disabling silently a feature.

All I need now is a new CWS (not only for this bug, but also for a few other
ones : #59912, #59900, and perharps even #59673). And of course help, as Pavel
said.

I did not see help proposal from Rene at the end.

I don't really mind if you do it, but if I continue being the owner, it's
better, because it's an opportunity to learn about the build system.

Of course I realize it is shorter for you to fix it directly, rather than you
and Kendy teach me how to do it...

When creating a table in Base, most numeric fields appear along with their
Italian translation.

DOUBLE is left as Double and should be translated into Precisione doppia.

This has implications over other floating point type names, so I suggest to
rearrange translations as follows:
* FLOAT: Precisione singola
* DOUBLE: Precisione doppia

A similar problem for BIGINT is described in issue 59927.

Putting an image or note in the background results in the image or note becoming
permanent and unable to be edited or changed without detriment to data/formulae
in cells.

Method
Select cell
Insert... Picture... (image inserted, sized and positioned)
Select image
Right click... Arrange... To Background
(Alternative -- Format... Arrange... To Background
Image is now not selectable and context menu options (above) not available.

Deleting:
Deleting contents per cell does not work on background.

Deleting rows and columns:
Select row... Delete Cells does not remove image, Delete contents sometimes
removes image.

Select column... Delete Cells sometimes removes image, sometimes not. Delete
contents sometimes removes image sometimes not.

(The term image applies equally to Note but the Callout line remains no matter
what I do)

When creating a table in Base, most numeric fields appear along with their
Italian translation.

BIGINT is left as BigInt and should be translated into Intero lungo.

This is a leftover from issue 46431 but I now think that Intero lungo is a
better translation.

Do I understand you right that you want to be able to insert an Index/Table
into
a (multiple column) section? Because if you use multiple column pages the Index/
table does follow the column and does not span the whole page.

Sorry, but I can't confirm on Windows 2003 Server.

It looks like the font used by the installer is corrupted after installing Far
East support? What is the font name? How does its character map looks like
before and after the installation of Far East support?

Martin: can you try to install some Sun provided build?

of: back to you.

That when you select multiple cells in the header row no entries are available
for the AutoFilter is because AutoFilter is only activated for the selected
cells except if only one cell is selected or has the focus (auto-adjusting of
AutoFilter). Try to select A1:C3 if you have 3 columns of data with multiple
rows (=3) and activate AutoFilter and see that the AutoFilter only lists the
selected elements.

The attached file problem.zip contains the word document (original.doc), the
view in Microsoft Word

Hello,

We are about to finish our work on OOo2.0.0 (SRCm140) and is to release soon.
Kindly add 'Malayalam' to the languages list in the Languages (locale setting)
dialog box. It would be atmost kind of you, if you can send me the patches for
doing that as I am not really good with coding.

Manu.

confirmed on Windows XP Pro SP2 with OOo 2.0.1, when you delete all versions of
a document (by subsequently deleting the last version listed), all versions
reappear again (after you have deleted the last versions). Secondly, with each
deletion, the dialogue title adds the filename again, thus the dialogue gets
titled filename filename filename ...

This issue seems pretty vague, so I'll give an example.

I selected some text, went to

format - paragraph - borders - default

and put a border around my paragraph. At that point, the Help assistant popped
up and kindly gave me instructions on how to do *what I had just done*. I know
how to do that already! I just did!

Useless...

I've added an attachment that demonstrates the problem (before and after sort).
I simply created a column full of numbers ranging from 100 down to 1. I then
put a note on the first and last cell. I copied the A column to the C column,
selected cells C2-C101, and did an ascending sort (which flips the rows -- top
moves to bottom an vice versa). If you hold your mouse over cell C2, the arrow
for the note points all the way down to around row 101.

OK, proofread and understood your patch. There are two problems:

1) In configure.in, you set ENABLE_KAB to YES or NO, but in makefile.mk,
you test its value to be TRUE.

configure.in:
   ENABLE_KAB=YES
...
   ENABLE_KAB=NO

makefile.mk:
.IF $(ENABLE_KAB) == TRUE

This results in the address book to be always disabled...

2) More cosmetical issue. In makefile.mk:

.ELSE   # $(ENABLE_KDE) == TRUE

Can you please adapt the comment to reflect the fact that now it's ENABLE_KAB
that is tested?

Thanks a lot in advance for these fixes.

Hi,

I created a new database file and added a table using the wizard. The table got
automatically saved to the file without me having to save it. This is probably
an unwanted automatism as it modifies a file one not necessarily wanted to
modify and therefore is a no-no.

[sw-issues] [Issue 59762] Insert Note - enhance to enable word wraping.

Thanks for your quick response. In most normal cases text should automatically
wrap. It just makes it so much easier to maintain your train of thought. It's
easier to review, edit, etc. It's easier to type without looking at the screen
to see when you have to hit the return key to keep text in view. A lot of
people have trouble viewing the note in the body of the word processor text.
They double click the note icon and view it in edit mode just to view it. If
the text is not wrapping in the edit box it's very hard to read. Scrolling back
and forth. I believe this would be a fairly easy enhancement to make everyones
life a little easier. People who use word processors expect word wrapping in
almost everything, it's basically what makes a word processors a word
processors. Thanks again.

As the picture is in background, you cant select it just clicking it.
Instead, open the Navigator (f5), open the Graphics node, then double click the
Picture that you inserted.

Note it is selected now and you can use the context menus.

Hope this help you.

And thank you.

[dba-issues] [Issue 59833] Base crashes upon table c reation from Calc

I have done the following steps to test this:

Under WinXP SP2 I have tried JRE 1.4.2_07, 1.5.0_04 and 1.5.0_5 all generate a
MS VC++ Runtime error if you try to import both definition and data.

If you drop rows on to Base and try to import just the definition, then no table
is created in Base - but no error and no crash.

If you create the table in Base first, then do 'Attach Data' the procedure runs
to completion, with no errors. (Save the ongoing issue with dates)

Turning automatic type checking off, by setting the lines to scan to 0, has no
effect. It crahses and works in the above scenarios the same either way.

Attached is an example database and Calc doc. The Base file has a single table,
which I created in Base and then imported just the data.

This issue is also present in OOo 2.0.1 RC5 PT-BR, so I'm confirming it.
Please change the summary to say that it's not just on Italian language.
Also I think that the more correct translation to english in step 2 is
File - Wizard - Fax
Isn't it? ;-)

Quote This prevents the data loss
insofar as now the column name cannot be changed anymore.

Are you saying that this patch will check if the column you are about to rename
is used by a view, and if so disallow the change?

Quote Shouldn't we tell something like
the column could not be changed, should it be deleted/re-created??

This ties in with the above question. If the column can not be renamed because
it is referenced by the view, then the user should not be able to drop it
either. In fact in 2.0.1 that is exactly the behavior, neither a column in, nor
the table itself can be dropped while the view exists.

I have used OpenOffice since it began and StarOffice before that. I have
encountered something here on 2.0.1 which did not (does not) happen on 1.1.4. I
have checked the FAQ and Troubleshooting, but cannot resolve. My system with
trouble is running FC4 (2.6.14-1.1653_FC4) under Gnome, although I also use
OO.org under windows.

I installed 2.0.1 via Yum, which conveniently left my 1.1.4 installation intact.
However, the install does not recognize a prior installation, so it did not
migrate any data from the prior install. Once I realized that my fonts needed
to be installed, I proceeded, as root, to run spadmin and install the fonts
directly from the prior installation (~user/OpenOffice.org1.1.4/user/fonts/ --
note, my prior install just put the fonts under the one user) into a system-wide
config. The fonts all were numbered among the pre-installed ones, and I
verified that all files were copied to
/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/share/fonts/truetype/ (which is odd, since they are
type1 -- but I noticed that I installed 1.1.3 to have the fonts system-wide, it
put them under truetype, and it worked fine). I then exit without difficulties.

Then, I call ooffice {file.sdw} and expect to see the document in all its glory.
I see that every font is the exact same sans-serif helvetica-looking mess. On
some pages, even the spacing went to Zuffenhausen. I place the cursor on the
words, and the correct name appears in the font selector above. I pull down the
selector, and all my fonts are listed -- well displayed each one in the same
sans-serif font (instead of an example of the right glyphs the font calls for).
Under Format-Character, I can also see all the names, but clicking through
each does nothing to the text -- it all looks the same, Helvetica-like. The
little note at the bottom of the window give me probably all the assorted
messages: The same font will be used for one font, The closest... for
another.

I tried various things. I added the fonts to the fontpath via xset fp+ ...; I
verified the fonts can actually display correctly with xfd -fn ...; I added
the font directory via chkfontpath and verified it was added. I even added the
AFM files to /usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/share/psprint/fontmetric -- just in
case. (do you notice any acts of desperation here??)

One thing I did notice. My prior installs all have fonts.dir in the directory
with the fonts. The new install did not. There seems to be no control file,
although spadmin does remember the fonts that I installed when reactivated. So,
I added one ;) -- did not help. :(

The other interesting thing -- the preinstalled symbols, URW, and Times fonts
all DO look correct in both the pull-down AND the format - character -- so it
is not totally broken; it just does not make the connection for my newly
installed fonts.

So, I am out of ideas. I can use some help in getting this debugged. What is
missing that takes me from having the names listed to displaying the correct
glyphs in oowriter? Where is it getting the idea to use the Sans-Serif font?

Thanks!
KC

Sounds just like my install of OOo builds from OpenOffice.org mirrors, not the
Fedora rebuilds. In my case, the only difference is that the fonts are all TTF,
not Type 1. Same result, though.

I did this with several of the snapshot builds. When the Fedora rebuilds came
out, and I installed them, the installed fonts showed up, but the rendering was
totally incorrect. They looked like monospaced fonts, very ugly.

So, I confirm this report.2

Thank you.

Now there's a new problem:

scp2/source/ooo/makefile.mk:

.IF $(ENABLE_KAB) !=
SCPDEFS+=-DENABLE_KAB
ENDIF

= missing dot before .ENDIF

The rest looks okay.

A multi-page table breaks over each page. The reader has no idea what is the
subject of the table till he sees its caption.

But this caption could be several pages away, at the top (or the bottom) of the
table.

The problem is worse if the file contains multiple such tables (and if they look
identical in structure). In this case, the reader would have difficulty in
locating the current table's caption; and he may end up reading some other
table's caption!

To increase readability, Writer should insert the table's caption on each page.

Note: The caption on each page should have some additional words that indicate
that the table continues on the next page.

For example, (Continued..)

(See Issue 59812, which has a related suggestion.)

@cleave :
Can you please tell us with 3 short sentences what you expect from OOo?

I checked with 2.0.1 RC5 German version WIN XP: [680m1(Build8990)], where the
images were shown correctly. In WORD2000 the images are not shown, pls. see
screenshots.
