In svx/source/editeng/svxacorr.cxx there is a code which responsible for
autocorrection of two hyphens to emdash. This behaviour is not dependent of the
language of the current text. However, in Hungarian language the emdash
character is not used. The endash characted should be inserted in this
situation. There has been a patch for it in Hungarian community build for about
two years.

In AutoCaption text first comes the type of the caption and the number comes
after it (e.g. Figure 1). This is not suitable for all languages. For example in
Hungarian Figure 1 should be 1. ábra not Ábra 1. The term Ábra 1 is
grammatically incorrect and look unprofessional in a Hungarian text.
The suggestion is to let the AutoCaption format be localisable, for example
there could be a translatable format string like %s %d which could be easily
translated as %d. %s in Hungarian.
In current Hungarian community builds an ad-hoc patch is used. Of course it is
not suitable for inclusion, because other languages need the original format and
this patch breaks that.

It alters the font selection dialog so that it would show a sentence instead of
the font name. The rationale behind this is that this way the user gets a
visible feedback whether the actual font contains all the glyphs that his
language needs. In Hungarian we use the külvízen úszó szárazjégtörő kisjármű
sentence which shows all the accented latin characters we use and a quick glance
gives back the user the feedback whether the actual font contains all the
Hungarian glyphs he will need.
I think if we were to clean up this patch, then it should become the default for
all languages. We could make the sample sentence (e.g. The quick brown fox
jumped over the lazy dog) localisable through the l10n framework.

My experiences seems to be correlated to this bug. I have a relative long writer document, written with version 1.1.x, that contains several tables. I have attached a stripped down version of that document (since i'm not authorized to make public the original), with the relevant part mantained almost intact. As you can see, in such document the tables have an heading row, in which each cell contains a variable field. In particular there are some of these containing each a name of a month, formatted to display rotated by 90 degrees. The text in the remaining columns are formatted to display horizzontally. I have opened and modified this document many time since the end of 2004, using OOo 1.1.x (now 1.1.5), but now, with OOo 2.0.x (now 2.0.1), the columns vertical oriented, displays truncated: the height of the row is incorrect and seems adapted to fit the horizontal text (i have attached also a screenshot). In these days i've tryed to recover my documents in several ways, but none worked. First i've tried to convert the document to OpenDocument format, with no effect. Then i've tried to modify manually my document, resetting the heading style to Default formatting and the reformat like i wanted to be, but every time i save and reopen the document the truncating problem come back. This is the common case. I've also determined other faulty behaviour attempting to recover my document but i can't remember how to reproduce them. Following the steps below fot the document i have attached (and in the original version too) shows the problem in a deterministic manner: 1) Open the document and go to the second table (which is 3 pages longs and during my manual modification sometimes has showed problem in reporting heading changes over the pages); 2) Select the heading row; 3) Right click on the selection and press Default formatting; 4) Now select all the heading cells containing a name of a month; 5) Right click on the selection and press Character..., then go in the position tab and set a rotation of 90 degrees and click OK; 6) The document should appear OK; 7) Save and close the document; 8) Reopen and see. I've verified such behaviour both under Windows (2000 professional SP4) and Linux (Debian Sid). The document was originally created under Windows. This bug is very annoying because introduce an incompatibility between the old and the new document format: documents created with the previous version can display incorrectly with OOo 2. Very annoying to have to reconstruct a complex document when this happens. e.g., I copied a page of text with pictures in frames, pasted it to a new page, edited the new page text and then discovered that the page from which the material was copied had been erased. There remained only a blank page. e.g., I copied a page of text with pictures in frames, pasted it to a new page and the application crashed without warning, losing all of the edits I had recently done. These crashes occur without warning so there is no trace or error reports. Also the system oftem gives a K-error message when closing the writer. No trace or clues provided.
