When inserting a video on a slide it can be played exactly once, directly after
insertion. When changing slides, controls for the video object are greyed out,
thus, disabled. When moving around, or changing size of the video object, I get
back controls! (This behavior is filed in issue 48997 for Windows XP, OOo 2.0.1
and 680m155 are concerned).

In OOo 2.0.1, using widget set "gtk", the video window is not embedded in the
slide. But if I can manage to get the window into forground, I can see the video
playing. (This behavior is filed in issue 59255 and resolved for 680m155).

In OOo 2.0.1, I can play a video only once, directly after it has been inserted.
Even if I get back controls by moving it around, there is only a black window
but no movie. In 680m155, I cannot see the video even once.
In neither version, playing back a video file works in presentation mode. In
full screen, there is always just a black window.

Playing back the same video file with the media player (under tools) is working
fine!

I guess, there is a mix-up with the X-window-IDs or by the ordering of the
X-windows. Maybe the media player is sending its output to the lower window,
maybe the controls are "attached" to the lower window, maybe the ordering of the
windows is not deterministic...

Just one small UI detail, not a real defect:
If you enter a value with the wrong decimal seperator, into one of the fields in
the scale tab page, the value changes sometimes to a much high integer value.
I'am using german local settings. If I enter the following strings into the
'Axis at:' field, chart recognizes the following values:
"11" => 11 OK
"1.1" => 38718 Not OK
"1,1" = 1,1 OK
"100.000" => 10 OK

Received information via email, attaching it:
I send you
a) the presentation
b) a scan of what the printer printed. If you are still not convinced that the
layout is squeezed, I'll have to send you a picture (that I had in the
presentation, but I deleted to reduce the size of the file).
The expected PRINTOUT:
I'd like the slide to be landscape on top of the page (ie to use up all the
width). I use a laserjet 4050 TN.
NOTE: I scanned only half the page (as the bottom half is empty), it an A4 page
(European size).

I hope you will be able to reproduce this defect.
In another test, when I created a presentation with just ONE slide, with just a
rectangle, and printed it, the ratio was normal.

I found the same behavior on OOo 2.0.1 and even on SRC680_m155:
Unfortunately, I have an additional problem:

In OOo 2.0.1, playing back a movie does only work once, i.e. when it is first
inserted. Changing slides disables controls as described. By moving the movie on
the slide, I get back controls (as described). But then, there is only a black
window and no longer any movie-image displayed.
In full-screen presentation, I only get a black window, no movie image.

In SRC680_m155, playing back a movie does not work even once, neither in editing
mode, nor in presentation mode. The media player (under tools) does work!

I guess there is some mix-up with the X-window-IDs...

The "link" to a character style only specifies the format for the "number" of
the heading to possibly have this in a different format than the rest of the
heading paragraph. The "hidden" property will not work here, because hiding a
number of a paragraph is only possibl manually by deleting it.
If you want the whole paragraph to be hidden, you must specify this in the
properties of the used paragraph style.

In the tabpage "Format.Numberings.options" in the box "Numbering" there should
be an option called "Native numbering".
This should cover your desire. Of course you must have enabled CTL in your
Language options.

OO.o base is lacking the functionality for purging the records marked for
deletion in a DBase table. Currently these tables are growing all the time.

The name for this funtion should be "pack" (german "Reorganisieren").

Another related task is to rebuild the indexes with a "reindex" command.

Both of these should be available at the GUI (SO5.2 had it in the context menu
at the "tables" node in the DB browser) and via API for using programmatically.

When calling the Tools/Customize dialog from either the backing window or via
Tools/Macros...->Assign the keyboard tab is not displayed.

This is incorrect behavior which was introduced because there exists a
radiobutton that allows to choose between assigning the shortcut to either the
entire office or the application only. This is somewhat problematic in relation
to backing window or assigning macros, the application is not set or undefined.

Affected automated testcases:
f_updt_customize.bas::tUpdtCustomize
f_basic_first.bas::tMacro_Dialog

A firm typographical rule in English, and I expect in every language, is that
hyphenation is normally not allowed between page breaks (or column breaks).

OpenOffice allows it.

Set hyphenation on. F

ill 2 pages using a 50 point font to make it easy to fill the pages and make it
easy to see what is happening.

Insert a long word like "hyphenation" in the bottom line of the first page.

Insert repeatedly any character in front of the long word to move it to the end
and over the end of the line.

The word will self-hyphenate and split itself between pages.

I'm not sure if this is related to issue 46254. In the attached file, it uses a
font supporting simplified Chinese (GB2312 encoding). This font is commonly used
in the mainland China. When the file is opened in Traditional Chinese Windows
2000 (eg, Hong Kong), some characters are not displayed (displayed as white
spaces). I do have the Unicode Arial font available. So it means glyph fallback
is not working. If I select the text and change the font to Arial (or Courier
New, etc), then the characters will be displayed fine.

The GB2312 font is named 仿宋_GB2312. In English it means emulated-Song_GB2312.

I have Mandriva Linux so rpm is the method usually employed but not everyone has
root privileges or a system suited to rpms so I believe a universally acceptable
method should be used.

I also see many posts from people who want to alter the way OO is installed.
With alterable setup files, that is possible.

One thing I preferred about the old method is that you could run setup after
installation and choose a repair option. Another thing is that it gave you an
easy way of choosing what parts of the system you install.

Could you please add "numerals based on context" feature to OOo. This feature
does exist in M$ Office. Not sure about this but I think it was also in OOo v1.x

For example, on a single document, I want the following:
I want that when I write (letters and words of course) in English language, the
numerals used will be Arabic. And when I write in Arabic language, the numerals
used will be Hindi. All in the SAME document

By the way, numerals used in Arabic language are Hindi numerals.

B.S. Let me know if I wasn't clear.

again the build breaks because of the very same error, namely the variable
tstamp not being declared at the right posistion.

Givent that the patch was replaced with a new one, it is sad that the old parts
were not included.

please refer to issue 51409 for details of this issue and patch.

They're in the default for all Debian based distro's;
/home/lance/.mozilla-thunderbird/3bbi4b8u.default &
/home/lance/.mozilla/firefox/utlr5uby.default
if I understand your question.

> Setting an environment variable depends on the shell used. For BASH it's
export MOZILLA_CERTIFICATE_FOLDER=path to profile folder. for tcsh setenv
MOZILLA_CERTIFICATE_FOLDER path to profile folder

As I could find nothing in the context help, documentation nor wiki explaining
what an environment variable is, how to set one or why I'd want or need to; I'm
afraid this means absolutely nothing to me. Perhaps that's why others have
reported difficulty as well??? Since you mentioned BASH, I'm wild-guessing this
is something that needs to be done through the command console & may be a "Linux
thing" rather than an "OpenOffice thing"--in which the Debianized version may
not be setting it, if that's the problem...How do we tell if that *is* the
problem?

Thanks,

Lance

I would love my company to use this application as an MS Office replacement so
I installed it on my machine and asked my boss to give me the most complex
spreadsheet he had in order to see if it could handle it. Anyway, it gave
me "Err:502" in numerous cells and we couldn't figure out what the problem was.
I don't think this spreadsheet uses macros and an example formula for one of
the cells is: =C5*(VLOOKUP(B5;COMP2;18;0)) Hopefully I can attach the document
so you can see for yourself.

Thanks,
Brian

And the step 6 of the wizard is called "Nome e luogo" (left part of the dialog),
while should be "Nome e percorso", since means the path of the file for the
agenda, and "percorso" is a widely used translation for "path". If "percorso" is
accepted, also "Posizione e nome del file" should be changed in "Percorso e nome
del file" (right part of the dialog, the grey one).

This follows on from Issue 40912, where this comment was first posted.
Tested with Dev680m155, on WinXP SP2, using black background colour.

Some issues still remain for application icons on the Windows platform. For
'quickstart.exe' icon (left hand side of attached screenshot), compared to
'soffice.exe' (right side)- it is quite jagged in comparison. Also the 16x16
icon for both applications seems lower in quality than other icons:
quickstart.ico has some lighter colour towards bottom of right edge, and
soffice.ico seems quite jagged (no alpha?)

Andrew

This refers to OOo2.0.155 not cooperating with another program so it will
probably not get a high priority but I report it anyhow.

There is a fairly well known free program for Windos users: AllChars.exe.
Downloadable from: http://allchars.zwolnet.com/
This program has two main uses:
to insert characters not existing on the keyboard and
to insert (even long) sequences of characters (texts, names, dates etc.). This
latter is called using macros.

I have to create several short documents every day and these must have file
names according to certain rules, i.e contain certain character sequences of
different kinds. Therefore I use this macro facility all the time.

When I save a file in OOo1.1.4 (and up until OOo2.0 inclusive) there is no
problem. But when I want to save a file in the actually newest OOo2.0.155 the
whole program suite quits in the moment I call the macro from AllChars. Whatever
the macro is. So the Save window is open, I click in the white box "File name",
press the keys that would call the relevant AllChars macro - and OOo 2.0.155
quits. (It is configurable which keys to press but it is irrelevant now.)

I do not know of OOo versions in between because there was a serious regression
in OOo (concerning self made templates and self made macros - issue 58527) which
made it impossible for me to get as far as saving a file.

The problem covered in that issue is solved (thank you very much), but it seems
interesting that although a different program is concerned some "macro business"
is involved again and, furthermore, this problem did not exist and does not
exist in earlier versions of OOo.

Perhaps you will have a chance to check this some time in the future.
Thank you.

Follow these steps:

* Assign full justification (German "Blocksatz") to the text body paragraph
format.
* Write some thing with that paragraph format.
* Insert a table.
* In a field that has the table contents paragraph format, write something.
(Important: Do not manually assign that paragraph format to the cell.)

You will notice that the text in the table cell is fully justified, even if the
paragraph format for table contents specifies left justification. If you
explicitly assign the paragraph format to a table cell, all goes well.

I'm using the classic windows scheme with the option autodetect contrast mode ON
(Kontrastdarstellungsmodes des Betriebssystems...)

the enhancement would be to use always a pair of high contrast colors for
selected text regardless of the low contrast of the original text colors. Maybe
by using a fixed background color while varying the foreground color.

It certainly is not a defect.

When moving a group of objects they do snap to grid points. When moving a

Hi Simon,

> In "a1atje./a=t,1,3", the part "a1atje." specifies the pattern on which the
> rule
> applies (i.e. "aatje" at the end of a word), and the part "a=t,1,3" means that
> the 3 letters in this pattern starting at position 1 ("aat") are replaced by
> the
> hyphenated sequence "a=t" i.e. aatje -> a=tje

Yes, it does.

> What does the '1' in the pattern mean?

Odd numbers sign break points in Liang's algorithm. For a hyph_nl_NL patch, you
will need big odd numbers to set discretionary patterns on.
See README.hyphen in the attached library.

> Can I simply add rules like this at the end of hyph_nl_NL.dic?

Yes, you can, but the result must be processed with the substrings.pl program.

First, you need some hyphenation pattern analysis:

]$ grep e[0-9]*e[0-9]*t[0-9]*j[0-9] hyph_nl_NL.dic
.pee5tj2
ee3tj2
hee3tj2
plee5tj2
slee5tj2

$ grep e[0-9]e[0-9] hyph_nl_NL.dic
.al3e4e4
.met5e4e2
.ne4e4
.on4te4e2
.op5e4e4
.p4e4e4
.s4e4e3
afe4e4
a3ge4e4
ave4e4
...

Even numbers sign "no break" points. We need greater odd number, than 4
to permit discretionary hyphenation:

e5etje/é=t,1,3
a5atje/a=t,1,3

(there are also an other discretionary hyphenation group in Dutch:
``Dutch has two unusual hyphenations: The diminutive tje (for example) strootje
is hyphenated stro-tje the final o of the first syllable being deleted in the
hyphenated word. Where the gei(diaeresis), transliterated (geI), geu(diaereses),
transliterated (geU), gee(diaeresis), transliterated (geE), koo(diaeresis),
transliterated (koO), hyphenate ge-i, ge-e, ge-u and ko-o the second vowel
having lost the diaeresis.'': http://www.hyphenologist.co.uk/man-4-415.htm)

If you need some exception, you can add patterns with a greater even number
signed hyphenation point:

example6etje (not break point)

or

examle7etje (not discretionary hyphenation)

See also README.discretionary in the altlinuxHyph2.tar.gz.

I also suggest making a Dutch test file.

Regards,
Laci

I will study the Hunspell documentation to see how this can be implemented for
Dutch.

By the way, I understand that Hunspell supports the NOSPLITSUGS flag in the
affix file. This was in fact conceived because many Dutch users would accept a
suggestion such as "project analyse" for "projectanalyse", while in fact the
latter word was correct (just not present in the dictionary). Unfortunately this
was only implemented the Myspell of OOo 1.1 but not in that of OOo 2.0.

THe windows installer is broken
1. The installer unpacks the files to directory
\OPenOffice.org 20 InstallationFiles,
but the installer is looking in
\OPenOfficeorg 20 InstallationFiles
so can't find the windows install file "OpenOffice20.msi"
2. Both directing the installer to the correct directory and renaming the
directory to what is expected give the error message "OpenOffice20.msi is not a
valid installation file"
3. Installation then terminates halfway through deleting previous version (2.0)

If you try to join the content of cells with a forced line feed like this:

 =CONCATENATE(A1;CHAR(10);B1)

The result is still displayed in one line, which is different to the behavior of
E*cel.

OOoCalc shows:
[Text from A1] [Text from B1]

While E*cel does a line feed as expected:
[Text from A1]
[Text from B1]

Tested with:
OOo 2.0.0 Gentoo binary-version German
OOo 2.0.0 Suse Linux 10.0 German
OOo 2.0.1 German on WindowsNT 4.0

In an assignment we had, we were supposed to create a model used in accounting.
This model could be used for comparing different costscenarios.
Our teacher wanted a printout of the formulas in the cells to check wether the
model made sense. I was able to show the formulas on screen, but when printing
the calculated values shows up, not the formulas.
To show the formulas I used a checkbox found under
Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org Calc/View.

If this is intended behaviour, then I think the help system should make some
attempt to explain it. The user does not expect dates to be changed when
pasting between sheets so a tip or warning explaining the need for the
same 'base' date would be appropriate.

Related existing help index entries are:
Date & Time Functions
dates;default
copying;spreadsheets

The text might read something like:
Tip: When copying cells that contain dates between spreadsheets, both
spreadsheets should have the same 'base' date defined under 'tools - options -
openoffice.org calc - calculate - date'. In particular, StarCalc 1.0
spreadsheets differ from the OpenOffice.org default 'base' date.

I have added my public key to issue 61748. I hope I have done this right. If
someone could do the necessary authorization, as the documentation mentioned my
project lead needs to give authorization for me to be added. Also, I'm not
sure where I stand on the JCA front, perhaps someone could advise.

Thanks.

I suppose you use the Paragraph->Text flow dialogue, with which hyphenation
doesn't work immediately. I cannot reproduce this. Can you give a step-by-step
description?

When OOo Writer is already opened, choosing File->Open and trying to open the
document choosing the filter Text, OOo crashes. OOo does not crash when opening
the file via Quickstarter and choosing Text. Then simply nothing happens. OOo 2.
0.1 as well as 680_m155 crash. When choosing the OpenOffice.org 1.0 text
document filter, OOo says that this file is corrupt and cannot be repaired.
Even
though the file is ocrrupt and a wrong filter is chosen, OOo probably should
not
crash.
