To clarify, the use of combination of things in Objects and so on it very
cumbersome. Plus much of the existing documentation is out of date.

I feel this should be added as a feature.

I personally like to watermark documents as a "draft" and alike to version
control purposes.

Actually, two bugs...

1) If you specify a background color for a page in Draw, and set it so that
background color is for all pages, you then cannot remove the background on
other pages... you have to go back to the page on which you had initially set
the background color to remove the background color for all pages.

2) If you set a background color for only one page, it will print the margin (a
thin grey line along the edge where the margin line is on screen) on that page.
If you set a background color for all pages, it won't print the margin line on
any pages. If you set no background color, it won't print a margin line on any
pages.

This is a particularly troublesome bug for those of us trying to create postcard
mailers with a background color on one side and none on the other side.

This is on WinXP Pro (all the latest updates), OpenOffice 2.0.3, with a Savin
C3224 network printer with the latest printer drivers from the Savin website.

This indeed is the most common user problem for bidi users.

>From the decription of bug 68183 (which was a dup of this):
The single most common FAQ from bidi (Hebrew / Arabic ) users are issues they
have when trying to use bidi while the "enable CTL" in the settings option is
off.
Many times users attempt to add the directionality buttons to the toolbar, and
fail since that settings is off.
See for example a post to the users mailing list made yesterday:
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=125156

Many of these user problems would be solved if adding the directionality buttons
to the toolbar would automaticly enable that option in the setting, since the
user obviously wants to work with CTL if they add those buttons.

Ideally OOo will detect the need for CTL support (from the locale settings &
avilabele keyboard layouts), but that would be another issue.

[sw-issues] [Issue 59740] Should fall back on differ ent fonts when a character can't be rendered

Easiest way to see whether another font contains it is to use Gnome's character
map. Then highlight the diamond operator.

Then cycle through the font-list and watch for changes in the appearance (a
right-click on the character will give you a bigger preview and will state the
font the rendered glyph comes from).

To solve your particular problem, you could try to add the font FreeSerif to the
list of serif fonts known to fontconfig.

To do so, edit/create /etc/fonts/local.conf (using /etc/fonts/fonts.conf as
template) and add Free serif to the alias section defining "serif" fonts.

You can also modify OOo's VCL.xcu (but that should be more problematic since
you'd have to modify it after each update)

I think I'm going to close this one as worksforme, since it is impossible for
OOo to get a suitable font in this case. It would have to test every single font
installed to get one that matches by chance. This would cause a major
performance hit and thus is not doable.

Replacements either need to be defined in OOo itself (in VCL.xcu - done for
well-known fonts, it is impossible to add every font there) or on the
system-level (aliases)

It might as well be that OOo treats this (mathematical) character as
symbol-character (so that the replacement list of symbol fonts is applied, not
the one of the font-style (serif/san-serif) - but that doesn't really matter in
this case since the same reasoning applies: It is impossible to account for
every single font.

One should notice that this happened in a unxlngi4.pro environment. Cloph
mentioned he's using gcc 3.2.x. I built unxlngi4.pro using gcc 3.3.5, and
neither m178 nor m180 showed that behavior. It seems that Cloph's gcc version
tries to instanciate a XclImpTxoData, which has a XclImpStringRef member, when
it only sees the
inline void SetTxoData( XclImpTxoDataRef xTxoData ) { mxTxoData = xTxoData; }
method of class XclImpDrawingObj during compile, without it being actually used.

Reassigning to Daniel. Please include xistring.hxx in xiescher.hxx for
portability, or find a better solution ;-)

In the document specified in the URL in the text frame on page 1:
right click, select "frame" ("Rahmen" in german), it defaults? to "Background"
("Hintergrund" in german). If selecting "Border" ("Umrandung" in german),
Openoffice Writer crashes. OS: Debian/etch

If you want to come over for a Cocktail listed (for free!): Just come over on
Thursday (during winter/summer term).

Saving a spreadsheet to a new file (Save as... on the File menu) does not force
a formula that contains CELL("filename") to be evaluated freshly. To the best
of
my knowledge, there are three ways to get evaluated but all three involve a
manual process:

1) CTRL+SHIFT+F9
2) ALT+F L
3) Code the formula with something variable concatenated with the function call
{(e.g. T(A1)&CELL("filename")} and change that variable item after the Save as.
..

I believe this is caused by the fact that there is nothing variable in the
format of the CELL("filename") function call i.e. "filename" is a constant
string. Thus there is nothing to force a fresh evaluation of the formula.

It appears to me that what is needed is a flag associated with the formulae
that
identifies that a formula contains this particular construct exists and when
Save as... is invoked formulae should be checked for this flag.

Here is how you can perform a test of this problem:

1) Create a new spreadsheet.
2) In cell A1 enter =CELL("filename")
3) Select Save as... from the file menu and give the file a name.
4) Look at A1 and you will see that its value is unchanged.
5) Either perform CTRL+SHIFT+F9 or select Reload from the file menu to see that
this value should indeed have changed.

For a designer of a spreadsheet application to have to tell the "great
unwashed"
user community that they need to perform one of these extra steps is not
satisfactory.

I will consider adding a "autocorrect is braindead and sucks" issue later. :-\

The help files say that autocorrect for capital letters is only activated
whenever you START A NEW SENTENCE. When one enters a random string in a box in
calc, this is not a sentence. There is no sentence beginning or ending, yet
autocorrect is activated!!!

This is DISGUSTING. I try to enter the data again, manually, and autocorrect
AGAIN mangles my entry.

Autocorrect should do whatever, but if user for SECOND time enters something
that autocorrect wants to change, it should leave it as-is. As far as calc
behavior I do not believe it should capitalize anything unless sanity checks are
done as to whether the entry is a sentence.

If example spreadsheet is needed I may be contacted at quintin A T
riisconsulting D O T com

I have a very bad display quality of formulas on my computer, especially
brackets look bad.

See screenshots:

http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=formelnqualitttr9.jpg

http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=formelnqualitt2nn7.jpg

I also tried to set font-size to a higher size (16pt), but it still looks bad.

But, if I export that file to a PDF, the formulas into the PDF file look great!

If you need further information, say it.

using Windows XP SP2, openoffice 2.0.3 m178, but it also happens in all older
versions.

Please make it possible that users can simply hit RETURN for a new line in the
math editor.

If I write formulas with many lines, it is very time-consuming to write
"newline". And it's crazy to write a word - only for a new line.
Why making the usage so complicated?

Just hitting enter would be so easy.
I think many other users would like that, too.

If you make it as an option, everyone can do it in the way he likes it. Either
writing "newline" or hitting RETURN.

The italian string of the about box (in svx/source/intro/localize.sdf) has a
malformed string:
found:

...creato da " OOO_VENDOR " sulla base...

should have been:

...creato da \" OOO_VENDOR \" sulla base...

It's still there in m180.

By the way, why I couldn't chose m180 in the version list, for this component ?

I'd like the option of block/underscore or blinking block/underscore text
cursors. Prior to “Winders”, block/underscore cursors were common and I found
them preferable to the I-Beam. Emacs offers a blinking block text cursor so I
don't believe they're limited to old commmand line editors.

This would probably be limited to Linux but would differentiate OpenOffice from
Office without losing the I-Beam compliance.

I cannot reproduce with my versions of Goudy Old Style (as shipped with Corel
Draw 6)
Here I can use both fonts.

OOo only displays one entry for the font (as expected), but when I select the
italic style, It uses the dedicated italic font (and doesn't only "apply an
angle" to the roman font)

While I admit that my fonts are not the same as yours (mine ar "BT", yours are
only "T" - whatever that means) - this shows that there is not a general problem
of OOo not being able to use dedicated styles of a given font.

To further get to the root cause, what is the output of "fc-list |grep -i goudy"
on your system?

And maybe you could attach the pspfontcache OOo creates
(~/.openoffice.org2/user/psprint/pspfontcache)

Take a draw document and draw a rectangle. Set the background to gradient from
red to green.
Copy rectangle and insert it as "Bitmap".
Copy rectangle and convert it to "Bitmap".
Export the rectangle to any bitmap file format, for example to 'Portable Network
Graphic (.png)'. Insert the graphic.

Open eyedropper, fetch red with the pipette, set 'Replace with' to blue with
tolerance 50%.
Now click on the bitmaps you have created above and click on Replace button. You
will get a blue part of about a quarter, but it should be a half.

To see, how it should work, export the rectangle to 'Enhanced Metafile' and
insert that graphic. Use Replace there and you get a blue part of half of the
rectangle.

Hello,

one enhancement suggestion: Can you introduce tabs in OO Writer as for example
in firefox. I personally would consider it really useful to open documents in
tabs in stead of in a new window. Best regards, Lars

I stumbled into the same problem and fixed it in CWS aquavcl01 with a very
similar patch. I described the problem at the end of related issue #36841.

Then Pavel pointed me to this issue report.

So I resynchronized my patch with the one described here, and I have set the
issue to FiXED, as Pavel suggested me.

I use OOo-dev m180 but the error is in previous versions too.

Take a draw document and draw a rectangle. Set the background to a gradient from
red to green.
Copy the rectangle and insert it as "GDI Metafile".
Copy the rectangle and convert it "To Metafile".
Mark the rectangle and export it to "StarViewMetafile (.svm)". Insert the
generated grafic.

Open the eyedropper. Fetch red with the pipette and set 'recplace with' to blue
with a 50% tolerance.
Now click on either of the metafiles you generated above. The Replace button is
enabled, but clicking it does nothing.

To see, what should happen, export the rectangle to "Enhanced Metafile" and
insert the grafic. Now clicking on Replace half of the rectangle will become
blue as expected. Also grafics in OS/2 Metafile (.met) and Windows Metafile
(.wmf) will work. (Export to wmf is buggy, but that is another issue.)

Replacement should work or, if it is not intended to work on such metafiles,
then the Replace button should be disabled.

T-online administrator. You need not to speak German, the responsible T-online

I would vote for removing the
#ifdef MACOSX
// Get the store.hxx inlines non-inline, solves crashes in cppumaker
#define inline
#endif
lines and the
#ifdef MACOSX
// Get the store.hxx inlines non-inline, solves crashes in cppumaker
#undef inline
#endif
lines in any case, even if some people can build with them, because they look
like a ugly hack to me. Are they still needed in any way to fix cppuhelper?

Instead of "does someone need these lines to be removed?", the question should
be "does someone need these lines to remain?".

Now we only have to wait for aquavcl01 to get integrated, and we will be able

If I go to dtrans/unxmacxp.pro/lib and manually type:
regcomp -register
-r ../../unxmacxp.pro/bin/dtransaqua.rdb
-c dtransaqua680mxp
manually, it solves the second part of the problem (unable to register
component).

It's probably a problem of being in the wrong directory. But how do I convert
this result into a patch for aquavcl01? Any help welcome.

File > Recent Documents list

The list updates just fine as I use OO 2.0.3, and if I close/restart OO it uses
the updated list.
BUT if I close/restart XP, the list reverts back to the old one.
Seems to have come in with 2.0.3 (i.e. it worked fine on 2.0.2 & earlier)
