To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72901 Issue #|72901 Summary|new chart: handling of multi column data series in cha |rt data table Component|Chart Version|680m192 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|kla Reported by|regina --- Additional comments from Fri Dec 22 15:59:07 -0800 2006 --- Take the attached calc dokument. It contains two XY-charts, both with two data series. In the left one, each data series has got its own x-values. In the right one the data series use the same x-values. Now open a new writer document and copy the charts from calc to writer. You get charts, which are based on own data tables. Try to change the data series in both cases: In the chart, which has combined columns, try the following: (1) Delete the x-value column of the second x-y-combination. You will always delete the whole x-y-combination. (2) Delete an x-y-combination and try to add a single y-column. You will always get a new x-y-combination. (3) In the chart, which has single y-columns, try to add a x-column for the second y-column. It is not possible. Notice, that you have two xy-charts, which are very different in handling. If this is intended, it needs a description in some spec. If it is not intended, than the UI of the chart data table needs a possibility to specify and change the role of an inserted column. There are similar problems with stock charts, see issue 72433. But I don't know, whether that are same issues. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However to find this limit one needs to extend the limit of cols to according values (in sc/inc/address.hxx) You might consider this invalid today, but as the near future (according to Excel 12 reports) handles bigger spreadsheets, this will become a nasty issue one day... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 54195] Compare Document does not compare only differences
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54195 --- Additional comments from Fri Dec 22 13:48:51 -0800 2006 --- I just posted on the main boards and a frequent poster asked me to re-post my comments here. I have been evaluating OOo Writer as a possible substitute for MSWord in my editorial workflows, and I thought it might be useful to share my evaluation summary, even though it’s largely critical and I had to go with MSWord. I’m hopeful that an eventual version of OOo will handle this adequately. Of vital importance to an editorial (or legal) workflow is the ability to redline a document. This stands in for the traditional proofreaders’ marks in many editorial workflows for many publishing houses. And is essential for collaborative work in any industry. In comparing OOo with MSWord, I took a 62 line (default settings) preface from a book I’m working on where the edits are frequent (averaging a word per sentence) and ran compare documents in MSWord to highlight changes “before” and “after.” The resulting document was a 67 line redline with fairly efficient, minimal effective highlighting. Using OOo’s “compare documents” function on the same “before” and “after” files, the resulting redline was 101 lines long, and usually nuked entire paragraphs, replacing them entirely with the "after" version where a word or two would have done the trick. Note that the length of the file increased 63% in redlining, where a minimal effective comparison needed only 8% more lines. Having run this evaluation, I see that the tools for accepting and rejecting changes are there, the changes themselves are simply poorly perceived by the application, and developers should consider this particular feature to be currently almost entirely unusable. It’s great that you’ve started working on it, but really this isn’t even close to a feature that you should put on a menu right now to say “we have that, too.” You simply don't yet. Here’s hoping it’s implemented soon! Good luck! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 3395] Reveal formatting codes
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3395 --- Additional comments from Fri Dec 22 13:35:34 -0800 2006 --- I completely disagree with it being a battle between Styles and Reveal codes. It's not that at all. Using either one of them enhances the use of the other. I always use them both simultaneously. Styles are extremely useful in their rightful place, but a Reveal Codes feature can also always useful. In other words, Styles are not the right solution just to bold a single word; but I do use Reveal Codes to verify that the Bold On/Off codes are in the right place, for example, before a CR/LF or line break. I use Reveal Codes to help me see the Styles codes as well as any other code. Styles are used to group formatting codes together and reuse them for consistency. Editing a Style will change the formatting throughout the document where that Style is applied. Reveal Codes helps in troubleshooting to make sure all codes, including Styles, are placed correctly. These two features complement one another, but they in no way battle against each other. Yes, Reveal Codes should be added to OOO! Give me the control over my own document and allow me to place the codes where I want them, just as WordPerfect does. All it is, is like an HTML-code view of the document, so I can see where to put the opening and closing tags. It's THE standard for HTML, so why not in OOO? Can you imagine the adoption rate of the app when this feature is added? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This patch can't work ... ... well, it *does* work. What kind of magic is there in solenv?? With the patch, the JAVACLASSFILES should contain a reference to a class-file which does not exist, while without the patch, it should contain /class/org/hsqldb/lib/FileSystemRuntimeException.class. Which, by the way, exists on wntmsci10 and unxlngi6.pro (which are the platforms I built the CWS on). Adding a target dummy: @+echo $(JAVACLASSFILES) proves that this in fact is the case. Ergo: I don't understand why this didn't compile on other platforms, and I don't understand why after the patch, it does still work. /me is confused. Since i've updated from 00 2.0.0.2 to 2.1, the combobox forgets where the data from. In my old .ott file, everytime when i reopen the document i can't select from the combobox, there is only the last item, which i had selectet befor i saved the document and in the design mode, when i click with the right mousebutton on the combobox and select "Formular ...", the first line, where the datasource is defined is empty. The same problem occurs, when i open a new .odt document, build a combobox, select the datasource of the box and so on with the assistent, first all seems to be right. The values of the selected colum from the table where shown correct. But when I save the document and reopen it, I can't select the values. The difference is that the datasource in the formular window is shown correct. I would also submit my files, where the problem occures but i don't know how i can do this here. I am running 2.1 and doing email merges. On my PC i have several data sources -- Ooo native db, mysql connected through base (jdbc), &c. When I get to the step during the merge where it asks me to indicate a data source I click on the button to select and it brings up a list of registered databases. When I mouse over and start to select a DB, it appears that the program is trying to establish a connection to all of the registered databases. I am prompted several times for the login info for various databases -- I made it a bit better by un-registering several databases, but it is still no an expected bahavior. 1. Connections with data sources should only be established if selected. 2. It would be helpful is the dialog text asking for the login information also telled you the DB name, when you are prompted 7 times in a row with no indication of which DB it wants info for it is not a good thing. I find that Styles are nice and I do use them now that I am learning but I also find there are times that Reveal Codes would be a life saver. I believe that the inclusion of both would be a draw to those organizations that are WP based to OOo. Moving from Reveal Codes to Styles is no easy task. Finding ways of fixing weird formatting problems on imported or merged documents can be almost impossible without Reveal Codes. I know many that still use WordPerfect today in an organization that is almost exclusivly Word. Some are even moving to LaTeX over Word due to formatting issues. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I just did a comparison between getDefaultAttributes and getAttributes. Color attributes (as you indicated) are attainable via getAttributes when they are NOT a property of the entire paragraph. They are attainable via getDefaultAttributes when they ARE a property of the entire paragraph. This seems to be consistent with how other attributes are exposed (right??). If so, then perhaps it is not necessary to expose them further. But I'll let Rich and others chime in. As far as I'm concerned, the bottom line is that we need a quick and efficient (and predictable/reliable) way to obtain ALL of the text attributes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. They do not work if the text is inside a table. But often text in a document is formatted with tables. For example, in a two-column table, the left column is used as left margin; and the right column is used for text. The left column may contain symbols, small screenshots, frames that contain summary of a paragraph, etc. The right column will contain headings and text. It is not possible to promote/demote a heading in such a document. The user has to cut and paste the contents. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Took a look: PDF export uses a VDev. In SwViewImp::MakeDrawView(), a DrawingLayer View is constructed, but forced to some Printer when no Window. Wrote an eMail to FME for that, seems to be an error. BeginDarwLayers() does nothing then since the VDev is used but is an unknown device at the DrawingLayer. No Region is created. DrawLayer() draws to VDev (fallback for unknown devices), but without Region. AW: One way to secure that a Region is created is to use the Device with which the DrawingLayer View was constructed with. [installation-issues] [Issue 72835] Create a central point con taining OpenOffice.org version number
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72835 --- Additional comments from Fri Dec 22 05:47:39 -0800 2006 --- is -> ericb: The basic idea in the build process is, that all cvs modules, that are built before instsetoo_native, do not need any information about productname, productversion, productextension, default destination directory and so on, and so on. And nearly all modules are built before instsetoo_native, which creates the installation sets. Therefore everything built before instsetoo_native can be used for any product with any version. Only instsetoo_native knows, which product in which version in which language and with which package format shall be created (except sysui, what is of course a big error, that was introduced because of time pressure). If there are files, that have to include the packagename or the packageversion, this info has to be written into this files during packaging process in instsetoo_native, not earlier. If this does not work for your files now, we have to introduce a new process for this in the packaging process. During build time of your cvs module, you have to use a placeholder, that is replaced in packaging process. Therefore I explained scp2, where are flags for files available, that are evaluated during packaging time. For example the binary "soffice.exe" is modified during packaging process, because it has to contain the productname. setup.xcu is modified, because it has to know productname, productversion and much more information. mox script is of course a fix, because it uses the info from openoffice.lst, but this is exactly what was not intended in our build process. Please introduce a placeholder in your cvs module ( ${PRODUCTVERSION} ), that is replaced in packaging process (for binary files we will probably have to expand the existing process). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
