[sw-issues] [Issue 76168] needed: Remove Direct Para graph Formats
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76168 Issue #|76168 Summary|needed: Remove Direct Paragraph Formats Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.2 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P4 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|alanmartin --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Apr 7 04:35:35 + 2007 --- In OOo documentation, and in the following, "direct formatting" means any formatting which is not applied by the Style attached to a paragraph - for example Bold applied by Ctrl+B. Currently, in OOo 2.2.0 Writer, there are two commands to remove direct formatting, so the selected text will only reflect the attached style: - "Default Formatting" removes both Character and Paragraph direct formatting. - "Remove Direct Character Formats" removes only direct Character formatting, while keeping any direct Paragraph formatting. (By the way: This command is broken in OOo 2.2.0 Writer. It is attached to Ctrl+Shift+X but that has no effect. I have reported that bug in a separate Issue.) I suggest we need a third command "Remove Direct Paragraph Formats" which would preserve any direct Character formatting and only remove any direct Paragraph formatting. Why it is needed: Imagine the user has selected a block of several paragraphs, with various styles such as a paragraph with Heading 1, two indented paras and some paras with the Default style (body text). Imagine the selection includes some words in Italics and some in Bold, all applied directly. It would be very useful to be able remove all direct paragraph formatting, to fix inconsistent line spacing and indentation etc, without having to redo all the detailed character formatting afterwards. Personally, I prefer to always use styles instead of direct paragraph formatting - but for character formatting of a few words in a paragraph I use direct formatting, such as Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I. I guess that is the same for many users of OOo Writer. Thank you, Alan - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When I insert a note for the first time and start entering text, everything is fine until I press ENTER upon which all the text I entered into the note disappears. However, I can highlight the text (even though I can't see it) and copy/delete/modify it as I please. The note text does show up when I start editing it. As Chris mentioned previously, editing an existing note is problematic, although I don't have the problem with the text turning black, my experience is that the text simply disappears (but, again, is still able to be highlighted). I've even seen a case where creating a brand new note and pressing ENTER multiple times while creating the note makes the text higher up disappear even though text at the bottom of the note is still visible. Also I customised the Formatting toolbar with a new item and attached the same command to it. Again, clicking this new toolbar icon has no effect. It should remove direct character formatting, back to the attached style, without removing any direct Paragraph formatting. A similar command "Default Formatting" works as expected - it removes ALL direct (aka manual) formatting, both paragraph and character, reverting to the attached style such as Heading 1. (IMHO there should also be a new command, "Remove Direct Paragraph Formats", which would remove any direct paragraph formatting, back to the attached style, without removing any direct character formatting.) Note: I appologise if this has already been reported. I tried searching the Issue Tracker and got lost and overwhelmed by it all. A sequence of screen shots are attached. 1. Draw any shape (a rect in our example) 2. Right-click on the shape, and click "Edit Style" 3. Alter pretty much anything (for this example, under the "Line" tab, change width to 0.50" 4. Click another tab ("Transparency") 5. Drag the "Graphics Styles" window across the shape underneath. It will redraw the shape under the path of the window with the changes made in step 3. 6. Click "Cancel" on the "Graphics Styles" window. The part of the shape that was directly under the window will redraw with the original settings, but the changes will stay applied to the changed "dragged" area. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 76160] Can't select line after tr endline is created
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76160 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Apr 6 22:52:11 + 2007 --- Ok, I just tried it out and it does NOT work properly. Sure, I can tab through and get the line highlighted but then right-clicking and trying to get the object properties pulls up the regression line formatting issues. In other words, the interface/interaction is NOT consistent. If there is no regression line then right-clicking on the highlighted data line pulls up the data object properties. If there is a regression line then right-clicking on the highlighted data line pulls up the regression object properties which forces the user to highlight the data line using the tab key and then going up to the menu bars to be able to change the data object properties. In short, there are 2 ways to alter data object properties - going to the menu bar or right-clicking (if no regression line) but when a regression line is present then the user can ONLY go to the menu bar to change the underlying data object properties and they MUST use the tab key to get there. Honestly, this SUCKS as a user interface and if this is going to be left as-is then don't shoot the messenger when people complain about inconsistent user interfaces. I've presented the information - do with it what you will but changing it to anything other than an Open-Defect is shorting the users. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Most people want to click on the object and not use the tab key to scroll through 20 objects (most of my plots have at LEAST 5 lines on them with 5 regression curves) just to get to the one that they want. how about using a key combination with the mouse like a ctrl-left-click to go through the z-axis to get to the items you want or right-clicking to go through z-axis items. The tab method is sorely lacking. Just because there is "a" solution doesn't mean it is a good one or one that will even be used. I know that chart is actively being worked on for the 2.3 release and this feature would be greatly appreciated. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74392 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Apr 6 19:28:49 + 2007 --- I have to retract my previous comment - this week I have only removed HandleWindowBoundsChangedEvent for tooltips and I have had no crashes. I am attaching a patch that does only this, but includes all of the other events in a manner that allows for easy commenting if others would like to try. If this is the only troublemaker, then I can propose a much simpler patch. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I just wanted to add a real life example. My primary work involves auditing the whole medical activity taking place in a big county. One frequent task is to count the number of different diagnoses for individual patients. The string looks like this: "B18.1; G20; I20.9; I12.9". These tokens represent individual ICD10-coded diagnoses. So, I would like to count how many diagnoses are there (i.e. FindCount(";",'the_string') + 1). 2. I found the code for *REGEXP* searches inside the ScInterpreter::ScSearch() function. Unfortunately, I do NOT understand much of it and I fear that there is NO good documentation on it. I will try to implement a ScSearchCount() function later, just by cloning the ScSearch() function. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I am using Jave JDBC drivers to connect to Postgres, with OOo 2.1 I was using class postgresql-8.2-504.jdbc3.jar, I tried it with OOo 2.2 and it did not work. I then download postgresql-8.2-504.jdbc4.jar class, removed the old class from the Java class path and added in the new one, and tried it with the same results. This makes the program unsuitable for any work that relies heavily on strings. One of the functionalities that I am missing is a function that counts the number of occurrences of a substring within a given string. Lets say, we have the string: "ab cd ab de", and we want to count how often "ab" occurs inside this string. I have included in the attached file the C++ code for a new function, ScInterpreter::ScFindCount(), that performs this task. This function counts the number of occurences of a given string within another string // - IF string is NOT found, it returns 0 // - otherwise it returns the number of occurences of the substring // - parameters: // 1. string: this is the search item // 2. string: this will be searched for the first string // 3. is overalpping of search results allowed: //- default: FALSE (NO) // 4. START position: default = begining of string (=1) // 5. END position: default = LEN(string) I noticed now, that the function will probably NOT recognise wildcards, so I will look forward to correct that. I hope that such a function will make it in the OpenFormula specification, too. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 76054] Text selection behavior is different than most applications
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76054 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Apr 6 16:23:35 + 2007 --- > alonbl, your logic is flawed. >> Where the cursor is is irrelevant... Only the selection is. Well... I wish it was my logic... It seems the logic of every other application... > We're talking about paragraph styles in this issue, so following your logic, > selecting one single word in a paragraph or just positioning the cursor in a > paragraph and applying a paragarph style should do nothing. This surely is not > what the user would expect. You got it totally wrong!!! If the user does not select ANYTHING then: 1. Modifying style modify the style of the whole paragraph. 2. Modifying font/character attribute is modification to future characters. 3. If you like some more examples just tell me... I can write a complete algorithm. If the user SELECT/MARK a region, what we call "selection" 1. Modifying style modify all the paragraphs in the selection. 2. Modify font/character attribute is modification of the exact selection. 3. again... So... Nothing is flawed here... BTW: Please refer to other applications as well. If the user copy/cut selection, no part of the document should be modified. (Edge condition: If the user cut a selection in a middle of paragraph up-to and including end-of-paragraph mark, the remaining paragraph text should remain as a paragraph) If you paste a selection which end with an end-of-paragraph mark, then the selection will be pasted will not affect any other text. (Edge condition: If the selection is paste in a middle of a paragraph, the beggining of the paragraph receives the attributes of the selection). > And to your list of "unexpected" behaviour: Ask other users and they will tell > you some different story. This tells nothing. > To move a paragraph, you can just use ++ Great... So you forbit user to user Copy/Cut/Paste to do the job... This is not a valid approach... Fix the algorithm and you have both ways. > And your 1000 pages counter: Then you probably don't want to move a single > paragraph, but whole chapters, and then you can use the navigator... You know better than users what they do... Well... I must ask you... What if I really have the need to move a paragraph and not a complete chapter...? Is it too much to ask? Instead discuss the issue... You tell me not to use selections... I must say that this is unexpected either... :) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Thus, the square is not displayed, nor printed. But when I export to PDF, the square is visible. The logical behavior to me would be to consider the PDF export as a printer.
