SHIFT-DOWN also selects a line end SHIFT-END selects the line without the line end This makes sense: DOWN moves the cursor down one line, END moves the cursor to the end of the line. SHIFT expands the selection. So you have both options; even if it may be not what users of other applications expect it's easy to grasp and has an understandable logic. As Stephan mentioned, we should respect the expectations of users already used to the current behavior as long as this is not considered to be totally strange. And I doubt that it is. I have developped a SWT/JFace (even RCP) application embedding Open Office. This
application is launched via JNLP. I resolved a similar issue by rewriting the
method LocalOfficeConnection.getProgramPath() (package officebean.jar) in order
to give the possibility to provide a system property to locate the Open Office
program path
