If the user begins a new document and then opens the "styles and formatting" window where they then click on the "list styles" icon and then modify the List 1 entry. Modifying List 1 entry, 1) click on the outline tab 2) click 2nd row, third column 3) click options tab 4) click on "1" under level - and add "chapter" in the "before" box and a ". " in the "after" box 5) click on "2" under level - add a ". " in the "after" box 6) click on "3" under level - add a ". " in the "after" box - at this point, the preview looks just the way that I want it... 7) click "ok" and exit Now modify the paragraph styles so that they refer to the proper outline style 1) Click on the "paragraph styles" icon in the "styles and formatting" window 2) Modify the Heading 1 entry by clicking on the "numbering" tab and choosing the just-modified "List 1" 3) Repeat the previous step for Heading 2 and Heading 3. Now, everything works as it should as the paragraph styles are referencing the proper List 1 style and using those settings as it's number style. Add several different lines of text with carriage returns and change the paragraph style to Heading 1, then Heading 2, then Heading 3 and you'll see that everything works as it is supposed to. It should look like, Chapter 1. 1. 1. asdfasfasdfasdfa 1. 1. 1 adasfasdfasfasfd Chapter 2. 2. 1. asdaasdasdfasfas 2. 1. 2 asdfasdfasfasfsdaf _this_ is where the fun begins... Go back to the "styles and formatting" menu and edit the "Heading 2" paragraph style and click on the numbering tab again. Change the style to any other style and click ok. Now go back and change it to List 1 again. add a line of text and change it to a Heading 2 paragraph style, then hit return for the next line of text... You should find the following... Chapter 1 Chapter 2 adsasdfasfas 2. 1. 1 asdasdfasfdas Yes, I realize that Tools->Outline Numbering is a better tool for accomplishing this but this is a nasty inconsistency that should be squashed. So long as things are entered in the exact order that I outlined previously then things work fine but if any changes to the order are made or the configuration then things get messy quickly. Changing a style midstream screws up the formatting. Once it's screwed up in the document, it is a mess and the user needs to start fresh. This is a mess, IMHO. On a related note and maybe better suited for another bug report is that changes to Tools-> Outline Numbering then cancels any user-configured changes. If I make changes to List 1 and then use Outline Numbering then decide that I want to use List 1 again, all of my settings are gone. There is some serious work that needs to go on in this area as it is very flaky and I'm pretty tired of tripping across bugs that are so easily discovered. Let's hope that the world doesn't adopt OO (as the press is claiming) because it isn't ready, IMHO, and doing so would be a net negative for FOSS. In short, including a numbering style doesn't work reliably and a slight breeze knocks it over. Any changes to the document, formatting, or the styles causes it to get confused. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 77368] Keyboard usability when in serting bibliographic entries
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=77368 Issue #|77368 Summary|Keyboard usability when inserting bibliographic entrie |s Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.2 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|mru Reported by|jdpipe --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue May 15 00:49:24 + 2007 --- Hi there I think that there might be some possible improvements to the way that bibliographic entries work in terms of keyboard usability. Firstly, it's funny that the 'insert' thing for citations is Alt-I-X-B. To me it is unintuitive that citations are listed under 'indexes and tables'. In my mind, the act of inserting a citation is more related to inserting a cross-reference, and should be in the top-level menu. Secondly, when the bibliographic entry dialog comes up, there is no keyboard focus in that dialog. For ease of use, the 'short name' dropdown should have the focus, such that I can just type the first few characters of the reference name then press enter. It seems wrong that the 'short name' drop-down is position *below* the author and title in this dialog, when in fact the author and title change only as a result of changing the selected short name. They should be underneath. I think that by default, the enter key should insert a reference *and* close the dialog. Mostly one wishes to insert a single citation, so although this dialog has the ability to insert multiple entries at once, this should not be the default behaviour. Perhaps the buttons could say 'Insert', 'Insert + Close', 'Cancel', with the second one bound to the 'enter' key. I don't seem to have this option? I start OOo writer or OOo calc. This option isn't in either menu. For anyone that's curious, if one elects, in custom setup, to make the 'feature' "Online update" not available, then when OOo DOES DO online updates, the OPTION in Tools is NOT there!! (This 'feature' is STILL turned ON, but isn't visible.) My reason for mentioning this is that with Opera 9.2.0, I am BLOCKED from internet access if any OOo program is running at the time(tries to take ownership??). Not good. I respectfully disagree. While I respect all your work on the help agent, I believe that most users don't read the help. Just as Microsoft realized their users want the paperclip not to pop up so often, so too I think many OOo users don't want the Help Agent to do so. A few points. First: Are you confident that right-to-left users will accept the changed default as a solution, or would they still miss the automatic distinction (based on text content)? Assuming that the default is enough: Do we also want it when importing files like text or HTML (where the filters don't change the default). For the right-to-left layout of sheets, we don't do that - only in a new, empty document the existing sheets are right-to-left based on locale settings. Finally, a smaller technical detail: Currently, we use Application::GetSettings().GetLayoutRTL() for UI elements, and ScGlobal::IsSystemRTL() for document defaults (so far, default sheet layout and text direction in page style). Following this, it should be ScGlobal::IsSystemRTL() in this case. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please ensure that the cursor is collapsed and doesn't mark any content now. 6) type "ff" 7) use the navigator (F5) to select the bookmark A and see that the text "a" is selected. So far, everything is fine and the behaviour is correct! Now lets come to the bug: 8) place the cursor between "a" and "f" (collapsed) and press enter twice. 9) select the bookmark A via the navigator. Now you can see, that the bookmark A extends over 3 lines which should not be. I would expect the bookmark to still contain the content "a" exclusive (and not the newlines also). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If there is more than one character in the search field, the soft hyphen is ignored. The Unicode ID search (check "Regular expression", search key ="\x00AD") does not work. This must work, too. It did in OOo 2.0. SBA->FME: Reopening issue as discussed. The Regular expression search string is unique, but it may occur in combination with other regular expressions. Examples: - "[\x00AD|\x00AO]" shall find soft hyphen OR non-breaking space in one go - "test\x00AD{2}" shall find the word "test" with TWO soft hyphens appended to it Therefore I propose to "not exlude" the soft hyphen from the search in these two cases: (A) When the soft hyphen is the only character being searched for (Standard scenario, already working) (B) When the regular expression key "\x00AD" is part of the search string AND regular expressions is checked. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
