Hi,
The Application Server is WAS 5.1.1 on Linux machine.
The Open Office Server(version 2.1) is remotely located on a windows 2000 
machine.
I would like to state one more observation related to this issue - Restarting 
of the WAS server again establishes a successful connection between OO and WAS.
But it might again throw the same DisposedConnectionException after few days 
like before.
In the code the OO connection objects are properly colsed so there can be no 
open connections as well.
Can you suggest the reason for this problem ?
Can you confirm that the latest version of Open Office.i.e. 2.3 will resolve 
this issue of DisposedConnectionException that occurs randomly sometimes.

- press ctrl+f and "More Options" in the "Find & Replace"-window an note that it
looks like the one in my first attached screenshot.

- close the "Find & Replace"-window

- enter the word "test" into any cell

- switch the "SunSearchToolbar" to "Search Document" and search for "test"

- press ctrl+f and "More Options" in the "Find & Replace"-window an note that
now the bottom part is missing.

SO has to be completely restarted to have the "Find & Replace"-window with all
its functions again in Calc!!!

When I use the File Browser on Red Hat to browse to a folder containing
OpenOffice documents, the documents have the appropriate icons and everything
looks fine.  However, if I double-click on the file to open it, the icon changes
to Sun's Java symbol and a dialog box pops up with an error message.  For
example, if I was trying to open document.odt, I would get the following 
message:


Cannot open document.odt

The filename "document.odt" indicates that this file is of type "OpenDocument
Text". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "Java
Archive". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your
system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file
from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct
extension for "Java Archive", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use
the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. 


This happens for all OpenOffice files, not just Writer files.  In order to open
the file, I have to right-click the file and select "Open With" -> "Open with
OpenOffice.org 2.3 Writer".

This problem occurs with all of my OpenOffice files, not just specific ones. 
The problem seems to have appeared when I installed OOo 2.3.

I am running Red Hat Linux and installed OOo 2.3 without the JRE.  The version
of Java on my PATH is 1.5.0_11.

1) Place the .class and jaas configuration file under a directory named 
"classes"
2) From within the directoy that holds the "classes" directory, call:

I found a problem trying to run a java application under Linux.  This
application has been running under Windows for more than a year.  The
application uses Java UNO to manipulate a Calc spreadsheet.

   First thing I found is that the use of the Loader class included in the SDK
is required under Linux (as explained in the document "Transparent Use of Office
UNO Components").  At least I can tell that using the Loader is the only way I
was able to make the application found the openoffice binary.

   The application also makes use of the JAAS framework.  I have found that if a
static field is modified during the call to LoginModule.login(), its value will
not be the same when the call to that method is finished.  In other words, the
field has a value prior/after the call to LoginModule.login() that has nothing
to do with the value of the same field during the method call.

   Debugging the code using Netbeans, I have noticed a hidden source call to
AccessController.doPrivileged()  Could this be the problem?

   If the application is not started using the Loader class, then everything
works OK both under Linux and Windows.  However, under Linux the openoffice
executable is not found without the loader (this is why I am using it).

   I am attaching the source code to reproduce this problem.

I have a reccomendation letter for my daughter.  I was asked to look at it and 
make changes ( grammer ) if needed.  It is a word 2003 document. I loaded it 
into OO 2.3 writer and it displayed a verfy goofy looking document that is 
unreadable.  I opened it is Office 2003 word and it looks great.  I then saved 
it as an rtf and an xml  document respectively.  The rtf looks as bad as 
the.doc file when opened.  When I loaded the XML I was pleasantly suprised to 
see very wild screen gyrations and finally a very not correct document. 
Ith doucment is her reccomendation letter. I will upload it to you to see if

Well, it has been over two years since I made my first post to this thread.

I have learned more about styles and I still feel that Reveal Codes is
necessary.  I still have documents where the styles are mangled or others have
not used styles or other general formatting tools but direct formatting.  What a

1) Create a new document.
2) Save it as "test.odt"
3) Click on "File->export as PDF". A file selector dialog box opens
4) Type "T" in the filename field. Auto-completion suggests the filename
"test.odt", which already exists in the current directory. 
5) Type "Return". This chooses the "test.odt" filename as your PDF's filename.
6) Type "Return" again. This closes the file selector dialog. A dialog box pops
up, warning you that you are about to overwrite an existing file.
7) Don't read it, and type "Return" again. You have destroyed your original
file. If you quit OOo right away, you loose your document.

There is no bug in OOo, but careless (repetitive?) manipulation by the user may
lead to data loss.

A more user-friendly way of dealing with this situation is, when exporting a PDF
file, to check whether its extension is ".pdf". If it isn't, either :
1) change it silently to .pdf, or append a ".pdf" extension, or
2) warn the user that he may be trying to use the wrong extension, and ask if he
wants to change the extension to ".pdf". Make "yes" the default value.

There should be a way to save a Presentation with all images and other objects
embedded into the odp document, instead of being links. That way, it would be
easier to distribute presentations. There should also be a option to reduce big
images to screen (or desired) resolution. I too often saw people building
presentations with hundreds of pictures that are 2MB each, and it can take mush
time to work each images.

It seems that this issue now becomes urgent. Several of my macros in documents
created with older OOo versions do not run any longer since I upgraded to 2.3.0
RC3. I never touched 'Tools -> Options -> Security -> Macro security' since I
started using OOo (the reason for the different behaviour seems to be a
(partial) fix of issue 53673 in 2.3?), and so it was a bad surprise that
suddenly my macros could not be executed any longer without any warning for the
reason. It's not comprehensible that a warning appears when I start the
"forbidden" macro from the open macro edit dialogue window, but not, if I start
it using "Tools -> Macros ->  Run Macro ...'

Where do I check out the source from to test this? I'm guessing it is the
cws_src680_dmake411 branch, so I checked out the source using:

and gave it a whirl. It works fine for me, and the docs look OK too. Should the

otherwise)?

I think this is a reasonable User request for enhancement +1. I believe the
following behavior would be better:
1. Unpack files to TEMP (a system location which the User may have located
anywhere, i.e. a fast RAM-disk on my system).
2. Install OOo fully! ( It seems the install files are still needed until OOo is
first run... I have been caught out before and deleted the files before this
step having to restart installation... )
3. At the end of installation, ask the User whether the installation files
should be kept, displaying file size cost and benefits (as per leading
competitor). Default to Yes-> in which case unpacked install files are copied
from TEMP to OOo directory. No -> Immediately delete files.

Please consider re-opening issue and assigning to Requirements for evaluation.
