I had read somewhere that Lotus Symphony was supposed to be based somehow on OOo, but briefly looking over the app makes it look like it's built on Eclipse; perhaps it just borrows code from OOo for .odt support, and thence the confusing media articles? As I am wholly ignorant of the internals, this may be a foolish question, but is there any possibility of using Symphony's more accurate word-count breakdown code in OOo? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Today I downloaded and installed 2.3 on two different Linux machines. Configured JMF to make sure sounds were playing and tried to export a Presentation to html/Flash or PowerPoint format. In all cases the slides were present but there was no sound. The original sound files were wav files. I tried to open the ppt files in Impress again but there was no sound. To ensure that there was a sound issue, I then tried the presentation on two different Windows XP computers. In neither case was there any sound. I originally tried in Office 2.2 from both Fedora and OOo's own site with no success either. I am waiting for responses on the OOo users mail list to see if anyone is successful with exporting sound files. I am adding the sound with "Insert > Movie and Sound" and have the sound configured to play when the slide opens. There is no sound icon in the PPT file. There are no references to sound in the html files. The presentation had to be completed in, the shame of it, PowerPoint as it was required today. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I do not know how much of a security risk this particular feature addresses, but somebody thought it enough of a risk to address in SELinux! pescetti: The first place I looked was in the release notes, and didn't find anything helpful. Now that I know the problem is a security issue blocked by SELinux, I still can't find it mentioned in the release notes by following the Release Notes link from the download page (http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.0/index.html). It is not document related. It happens on a blank new document. Quote from the Oo Writer forums: arjwf said: Hmmm, a possibly-related problem: sometimes OOO 2.3 won't let you even start using bold/italics/underline if that attribute was used at the beginning of the line. For me, this reproduces the problem every time: (1) Start OOO Writer. (2) Press Control-B (or click the Bold icon) and type "foo", then press Control-B again. (3) Type " bar " (a space, then 'bar', then another space) (4) Press Control-B (or click the Bold icon) and type 'baz'. Step (4) will NOT turn on bold mode, as it should, and the 'baz' will not appear in bold. Oddly, italics and underline work just fine. Similarly, if you start the line with underline instead of bold, then 'baz' won't appear in underline (but bold or italics work fine.) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Unfortunately, there is a difficulty integrating this transformation, because formulas are not stored in the main contents.xml of a document. Therefore, the formula markup is not at all presented to the XSLT filter during export. I'm not sure, if one can use the XSLT function document(object, node-set?) from within a filter to access other parts of the exported document. Given the explosion of cheap wide-screen monitors you would think that after 6 years this issue would have been solved. I would LOVE to stop using MS all together but I edit and write large documents almost every day and so depend on the side-by-side comparison and editing of Words dual page view. Please remove all objects, except the arrow from the document. Then select, copy and paste it as bitmap: Now you can see that the white area is bigger than the minimum box around the arrow! I found out more: In draw, objects can be selected by "pulling" rectangles with the mouse. Objects that are COMPLETELY within that rectangle are selected after releasing the left mouse button. If you try to select the arrow with that method by pulling a rectangle that has exactly the size of the arrow or minimal bigger, the arrow is NOT selected! The selection-rectangle has to be a bit bigger as the minimum box around the arrow. It looks like this "more size" that is needed to select the arrow is exactly the border that is copied/exported. I hope you understand what I mean. Please let me know if you need a better description. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 74841] associate paragraph format ting with paragraph mark
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74841 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Sep 20 19:37:18 + 2007 --- This particular problem is not just an enhancement request; it's a fundamental design flaw that has plagued OO.o from day one. Sad, but a large number of the issues tracked here are either a direct result of this design flaw or an indirect result of the hacks necessary to work around it. You can't select a paragraph, copy and paste it somewhere else and preserve its formatting sanely. Lots of operations that are simple x/c/v actions in other programs turn into arcane sequences of adding a sacrificial blank paragraph, doing the obvious thing, then removing the temporary paragraphs. The same selection under cut, copy, and paste, may behave differently depending on how the selection was made, all because the formatting of the paragraph is not stored in the paragraph mark (figuratively speaking of course). The whole "delete a P-mark and the leading para's format wins/backspace a P-mark and the trailing para's format wins" thing is... cute, but it's seriously flawed. Removing a P-mark should have one consistent consequence. Then a whole lot of other weird emergent problems simply evaporate, and a lot of special-case code can evaporate with it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The situation is that the new user (not me) prefers the old german orthography and stumbled upon the non-functionality of the "use old german orthography" checkbox. Therefore, if it is non-functional, it should be removed/hidden independent on this discussion (therefore my vote). Next, one workaround could be that the old german orthography could be downloaded from somewhere to substitute the OOo files. This way, the spell check would be according to the OOo installation (or user? if user-file). In PowerPoint, a text box contains text. If you have too much text, the text sizes are tweaked so that your text, well, fits in the text box. In OOo, your text just runs right over the edge of the text box. What's the point of a text box then, exactly? When recording a MACRO within calc and hide rows is used then the data within the rows disappears, but the rows are not hidden. Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Begin MACRO recording, and select rows say 1 to 3. 2. Apply Format, Column, Hide. 3. Stop recording, and save MACRO. 4. Obtain a fresh (new) data set without borders or formating. 5. Run the MACRO. 6. The data within the rows disappears, but the rows are not hidden. Actual Results: The data within the rows disappears, but the rows are not hidden. Expected Results: The MACRO should always hide the desired rows as recorded by the MACRO. How often does this happen? This error always occurs. Maybe you should delete your OOo config folder from c:\Documents and setting\[username]\Application data. Opening documents, editing and recovering from crashes gives a blank window for a long time before I can perform the next action. Originally I installed 2.3 over 2.2 but since I got these problems I removed 2.3 completely and installed it again to no avail. I'm running on a PC with limited memory on which OO 2.2 ran fine. I will have to revert back to OO 2.2 because 2.3 is unworkable. Don't know if the other applications have the same issue in 2.3 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I see tow solutions: 1- A lightweight Impress player (viewer) on each platform. It should support all features supported when playing a Presentation from OOo. 2- A kind of self contained Java executable. Maybe an Applet that could be embedded into a web page. There are still some differences from platforms when packaging Java executable code, but its still easier that packaging native executable code. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
