Maybe this is an issue that doesn't bother a lot of 'home users' of OO but which
is critical to those who use it professionally. I am having to finish some
publications in other programmes simply to get around the image quality

When I opened the attached .doc with Word, the document looks correct, all
fields line up, and all field headers can be easily read. Since I do not have
Word, I am opening it up on another PC with Windows Vista.

When I opened the attached .doc with OOo Writer, the document does not look
right, the fields are skewed, and there is a least 1 section that can not be
read at all. I have highlighted this last item in one of my attachments; it
compares a Quick View OOo view of document.

This prevents successfull modification of document in electronic format.

[sc-issues] [Issue 82644] array constants fail with signed numbers or constant expressions

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 16 14:12:34 +

Hmm, I thought I read somewhere that Calc parses signed numbers as expressions:
unary operator number, so that's why I included a test for an expression. It
would not be quite so useful as being able to use negative numbers ;-), but it
would be useful to be able to write something like PI()/2 instead of
1.5707963267949.

I don't find anything in the online help yet, but if the help is written from
the description I linked to above, it will be misleading: Non-constant
expressions are not allowed implies (to me at least) that _constant_
expressions are allowed.

text:modification-date works inside ODT files but does not work with DOC

How to reproduce:
1) open new document
2) insert filed text:modification-date: Insert - Fields - Other - DocInformation
- Modified - Date
3) save the documet as ODT
4) save the document as DOC (I tryed MS Word 97/2000/XP format)
5) open ODT - date is Ok
6) open DOC - there is Author field instead of date

Expected result: both ODT and DOC formats works seamlessly

More info:
1) The same result is when editing/opening DOC document (Writer show Author
instead of Last-modify-Date)
2) The same result is with EN and CZ build of OOo 2.3.0

Well, I disagree and would change the default behaviour, which is currently
quite annoying, but that's just my point of view...

BTW, shouldn't this be decided by requirements?

Yes! Initial test using the NZ Customs form on linux (Ubuntu Feisty 7.04) works!
Even the check boxes work as expected. Thank you so much for working on this.

Tested on a police department form - fill-in boxes work, drop-down tables work
however tabbing skips the drop-down tables so you need to use the mouse to get
to them. If you'd like I'll see if I can get permission from the police
department to send you that form for testing.

I made a screenshot and pasted it to an OO document. Thereafter the picture was
cropped and resized, both on Windows.
If I open the document in Linux, the picture shows just the lower right part of
the original picture.

[sw-issues] [Issue 82346] Writer crashed when the Pa ge Preview is selected and smart tag component is installed

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 16 15:14:20 +

Just for the sake of completeness:

* in OOo 2.2.1, which I use for production, I do not have any smart tag
component installed

* in RC 2.3.0 680m2 9027 I have installed the two sample components we can find
in http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Smart_Tags : Document Property Smart
Tag and OOo Names Recognizer

* in 2.3.0 680m5 6221 I have installed the smart tag components I'm developing

As a conclusion, what should we do in a production environment? should I advice
my costumers NOT to install any smart tag component until the bug fix targeted
for 2.3.1?

But, I want to state that the current implementation in OOo Writer
doesn't reports normal text as bold in certain circumstances. Do
 you agree to this statement?

Agreed. A more accurate title for this bug would be OOo Writer allows ATs to
conclude that normal text is bold in certain circumstances. :-) Please allow
me to explain:

When an AT wants to identify the attributes associated with a given character,
it looks at the default attributes and then applies any reported character
attributes on top of them. Thus in Rich's example, the default attribute
weight:600 is present. If you query any of the bold characters in his example,
they will not report a weight. Therefore, an AT concludes that because the
default weight is 600 and no character weight is being reported, the text must
be bold. Similarly, for any of the existing characters in his example that are
not bold, the default weight is 600, the character reports a weight of 400, and
the AT concludes that the character is not bold. So far so good. Here's Rich's
bug: When you attempt to query the attributes at the end of the paragraph, the
default weight is still reported as 600; the non-existent character does not
report anything to the contrary. Therefore, the AT concludes incorrectly that
the character that is about to be typed is bold.

Regardless

I've thought that it is necessary to explain, that things are mixed
up here: an existing function/method is used outside its defined
parameter range. Do you agree to this statement?

Agreed.

Is it correct, that you need a method/function/workaround, which
provides the attribute set, which will be applied at the character,
that will be inserted at the end of the paragraph?

That is correct.

If your answer is Yes, then let's work together to find an
 appropriate solution for this problem.

Excellent. Thank you!

The solutions you propose sound good to me. But if it's not already obvious, my
background is in education; not software development. :-) So when I see things
like UNO accessibility API, I feel the need to bring in Willie Walker. So I'm
CCing him.

Having this fixed for 2.4 will be awesome though. I really appreciate it OD!!

create a new presentation, open view-master-slide master.

select title text, change it's colour using toolbar button font color.

deselect it, undo one action.
next action for undo has a typo : modify presentation object 'titel'.

additionally, this shows that single action is registered as two actions in
undo history (one is incorrect - it claims the text itself was modified).
i can open a separate issue for this problem if needed.

Make a new presentation. Insert a GIF file using INSERT-PICTURE-FROM FILE.

Then use INSERT-ANIMATED IMAGE, click on the newly inserted GIF file, and press
'create'.

The result is nice unless you want to run the slide show. Then the animated GIF
does not show up at all.

Actually I think I understand. I'm just not doing a very good job of
communicating what I think and want. Sorry about that!

I personally think that to be consistent with what is described in the AT-SPI
docs, if a user explicitly changes an attribute (e.g. by pressing Control B) the
changed attribute is not a default attribute. Thus when using the templates that
ship with OOo, I would expect weight:600 to be a default attribute of the
Heading 1 paragraph style. I don't make Heading 1's bold. They just come that
way. I would expect weight:400 to be a default attribute of the Default
paragraph style. Default text isn't bold. If I don't want my Heading 1 to be
bold and change my Heading 1 text by toggling bold off, I would still expect
weight:600 to be the default attribute and weight:400 to be a character
attribute associated with each and every character I modified. Similarly, if I
wanted all of the characters in a given paragraph that uses Default as its style
to be bold and toggled that on, I would expect the default attribute to continue
to include weight:400 and the characters to have the attribute weight:600. In
my mind, if I change it it's no longer default. But that's just me

Regarding your explanation, I *believe* I understood that as well. My
suggestion is this: Assuming you all do not agree with my suggested definition
of default attribute, :-) I would suggest that perhaps the value *should* be
revised when new characters are inserted. The example in my report is one in
which bold is not normally on, but had to be explicitly turned on by the user,
and it only applies to a few characters in the paragraph. In that instance, in
my mind, bold is not a default attribute for that paragraph. OOo Writer,
however, reports that it is. For that matter, if the first paragraph consists
of some bold text, all subsequent paragraphs I type seem to report weight:600 as
a default attribute even though they are completely devoid of bold text. Taking
it a step further, if the first paragraph is plain text, the second paragraph is
bold text, and the third paragraph is plain text, the first paragraph will
report a default weight of 400, the second will report a default weight of 600,
and the third will also report a default weight of 600. To me, at the very
least, the first and third paragraphs should report the same weight as the
default because formatting-wise they are the same.

i upgraded to 2.3, and am still having the same problem. i uploaded an example
to http://www.eatstapes.com/hours.xls (maybe it's because i'm saving in excel
format?)

in some cells, when i type a formula, such as =D2*25, and press enter, the cell
will display zero, even if there is a number in D2, which is formatted for
numbers. the formula bar at the top displays the formula when the cell is
selected, it just doesn't display the answer in the cell.

as far as i can tell, there's no apparent pattern to which cells will and which
won't work with formulas.

Hi, I was trying to print from the Writer using 1200dpi using the hpijs print
driver, and the following crash occurred (don't know if it is actually
printing-related).

I'm using Fedora 8 test 3, 64 bit, and OOo 2.3.

Thank you so much,
Daniel Wilcox

If you run the spellcheck without having a dictionary installed for the language
in question, the spellchecker will just say spellcheck complete in staed of
warning the user that there is not dictionary present. This is an old issue
(24439). But if you install a wordbook, it doesn't in fact change anything -
documents still aren't spellchecked. If you ran the first spellcheck without a
wordbook, the only way to have OOo actually do spellchecking is to remove the
user configuration and restart the program as if it was the first time (with
license acceptance etc.). Then, if you install a wordbook *before* running
spellcheck, the spellcheck will actually work.

This behaviour is very annoying for Danish users since the Danish distribution
at this point comes without a Danish dictionary.

The cell content is not a number but text. If you enable Value highlighting in
menu View, you can see that the cell content is black, which indicates texts.
Numbers are blue and formulas are green.

Excel calculates with texts, Calc not.

My understanding of the problem is the following (please correct me if I am
wrong):

a) The default attributes of a paragraph in writer are an extra style level on
top of the paragraph style, page style etc..

b) The default attributes of a paragraph in writer are not default attributes
in the sense of at-spi (as they are explicitly set).

As the UNO - ATK/AT-SPI bridge is currently the primary (and probably also the
only) user of the corresponding UNO API, we might be able to change the API to
better suit AT-SPIs need, but let me check with the other evolving bridges (Mac
OS X, IAccessible2) first.

How long before it is really fixed? I'm downgrading to 2.2.1 now. I really need
to use the math editor today.

Using a proper function on an empty value crashes Calc. Specific function:
=proper(indirect(SheetName. $a2 $b2)).

*Sloppy* error-handling with latest version. Unknown status, and will not return
to check status. Just fix it.

Assume you store an attachment from a mail somewhere, it then usually has
-r--r--r--
Of course you forgot to change this when opening the file with OO, so the file
is write-protected. When you change the settings to something like
-rw-rw-r--
and reload the document, the new file settings are not recognized, so it is
still read-only. I would expect that reload fixes this, instead you have to
close the document and reopen it.

I checked with 2.2.1 Multilingual German version WIN XP: [680m18(Build9161)]
and can confirm the reported problem. No idea whether we might have another
report for this.

The problem is also visible with 1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)].

The bug only occurs on the first slide shown after going into Slideshow mode.

If you crop an image and hit slideshow it will not show as cropped. If you
advance to the next slide and then back to the first, it will show as cropped.
Likewise if you start the slideshow on a slide with no cropped images and then
advance through to a cropped image it will render properly.

I confirmed this behavior on Linux (Fedora Core 4), Mac X11.

I am not sure I get your point.
You just have to change second parameter to from FALSE to TRUE in this 2
lines patch, in order to have a ScUndoUnmerge done by UnmergeCells.

And, for your use case, the result seems graphically coherent with what the
users tried to do.
Maybe I can force the paste share the same start point that the copy, but I
do not see why. Can you light me a little, please ?

Thanks,

I am sorry. Why did you close this bug? It's still included!
Maybe in a few month you have enough ressource available to fix it.
Maybe there are other coder who want to do bugfixes in openoffice, but they
don't know this bug if you close it.
Sorry to hear your bad attitude in giving the possiblity to fix a bug in
openOffice. If you don't want to fix it, then please give other guys the chance
to fix it.
There are several guys who can't use openOffice, because they they need to
import an valide timetable, but openOffice can't do that.
Just compare this:

Bug or feature? I can't decide that.

This state (no ressources for HTML) is not new.

Since *years* this component is not developed anymore and nobody in the
community volonteered to take it over.

So there is a missing *owner* for such issues.

Closing this bug doesn't make it disappear.

This issue is still there and can be reopend when someone decides to work on
HTML.

Sometimes when I press Ctrl+I before typing, font does not become Italic.
Sometimes I press button Italic but I type without Italic font. But it
heppeness sometimes. In most time this fiunction works right. In these
situations I do next:
1. I type text, that I need.
2. I select it, and then I press button Italic.
This sequence works alltimes.

And two times I saw this problem with Bold font. And again if I do that
sequence, the function of bold font works normally.

@jimwg: Does this happen with all the documents you export to RTF or just
 every
 once in a while?
I'm asking because for m233 Aqua Intel and OOo 2.3.0 X11 on Intel I cannot
 confirm the issue.

Looks like another PPC only Issue. Strange.

Suppose I email whoever's doing the investigation the actual copyrighted OOo
file to do an RTF export
from?

There's a strong possibility that this corruption occurred way back while
updating a OOo screenplay file
with a newer RTF version from Mariner Write via OOo's COMPARE documents
feature. Maybe some
formating codes got scrambled in the merge and got passed on from there. The
devious thing about it
is this corruption doesn't render on the OOo screen (like OOo's blind to it),
only the RTF export, which
is shot through with missing or truncated words or characters. Yet even a
layman like me can see the
actual corruption in the LACED case:

All appears normal on this cut and paste of OOo editing screen of the corrupted
file:

EXT. EAST TEXAS BAYOU – DAY – SEPTEMBER 1849

HOUNDS BARK in the distance of a cypress swamp while two ragged black slaves
splash and dash from
BOUNTY HUNTERS. His bare back LACED with scars, ex-Mexican War Calvary scout
and Bostonian
mechanic LAZAR HAMMERMAN, 34, tows field slave DULCY, 31, through muck and
roots. He ducks
behind a tree and slips underwater and behind a lone hunter to pop up and apply
a NECK-POPPING
half-Nelson on him. Approaching hounds HOWL.

How scene looks in a Pre-Corrupted file VIA TEXT WRANGLER:

This is a ridiculous issue and has not been fixed for four and a half years now.

I have thought I would just go ahead and fix it, but it is not quite that
simple. I see that I would mostly have to work with
svtools\source\filter.vcl\filter\filter.cxx, filter2.cxx and
FilterConfigCache.cxx and also the accompanying headers. I see that the code
makes a weak attempt at using the UNO API for accessing the filter registry, but
after that it is mostly a huge string of ifs for every supported type.

I could fix this issue by adding an entry for sxd and odg in each of the
numerous listings. But this would still not give support for SVG and an array of
formats supported by Draw. I would prefer to rewrite most of the code here to do
away with the static lists and exclusively use the filter registry.

This is obviously not an afternoon's work, and so I would like to discuss it
first and maybe get someone to help me.

I am not very familiar with this code, unfortunately I am not even sure of the
requirements. I see that a large part of the per-file-format code deals with
identifying the different formats based on their streams and not their
extension. I am not sure that this is good practice anyway and if it can be
removed then it should -- making the whole reimplementation much simpler. If it
is a requirement, then could it be replaced by just trying the different filters
and checking for exceptions? I have really bad feelings about all that binary
hocus-pocus going on and would like to see it gone :).

[sc-issues] [Issue 5930] Engineering Notation

Hi,

One more redundant comment here: I totally agree that engineering notation would
be a very very appreciated feature for all scientists. Long list of numbers are
useless to us unless they are properly formatted (e.g. 10n instead of 1e-8!!)

I would be happy to contribute, if there are 'low enough' level functions to
develop in C (i.e. convert eng to sci and opposite), but not an expert in Oo
architecture and stuff.

Anyone started working on that / willing to start ?!

Cheers
JJ

Then it segv brutally. I have take a deep look and there's also a patch which

Why is this a real issue? Because it impacts the newly added enhancement for OOo
2.4: Enhanced Data Input in Calc
(http://specs.openoffice.org/calc/ease-of-use/Enhanced_Data_Input.odt)

As soon as autocompletion is activated, you just can't use it because you can't
go to the next cell using the tabulation anymore...

To add a few more thought to the chat, here is a post where David Fraser already
said that this behaviour is annoying:

http://www.translate.org.za/blogs/david/archives/2006/05/23/T20_00_53/index.html

fst -

The Excel behavior for autocompletion is that it won't autocomplete until you
have enought characters to differentiate and have only ONE word matching.

I suppose that something better can be found...
