The empty page in this scenario is created as a copy of the first page, therefore the empty page is also a 'first page'. If for some reason CheckPageDescs() is called again, the second (empty) page will change it's description from 'first page' to 'right page', see 3. in FindPageDesc(). If point 3. in FindPageDesc() is changed to return 'first page' for the empty page, the bug also does not occur anymore. In defense of Matthias Bauer & Co, I should add that he inherited some serious problems in Writer, especially the facts that part of the code is written in Java and that Writer uses fixed page templates. Unfortunately, this intended overhaul whiped a quick and dirty fix from the agenda. You and me, and tens of thousands of other user-candidates, would be helped enormously by an ugly fix at another programming level. The overhaul is technically the best thing to do, without any question. But skipping the quick and dirty fix is a colossal marketing blunder. I think this problem is keeping Matthias awake at night. If it doesn't, OOo Writer is doomed... Meanwhile, my Ubuntu installation is all set-up and ready.
