Create a OO Writer document, save it. 2. Edit it some more, so that it's unsaved. 3. Kill OpenOffice (like if your computer lost power suddenly) 4. Double-click on the saved document's icon. Result: The older (saved) version of the document is opened as if nothing is wrong, *and* in addition, a "Recover Document" window is opened. However, the recover-document window is opened *behind* the open (old) file, so that you can't see it and don't realize it's there. You can edit your document for hours, not even knowing that your most-recent changes weren't saved or recovered, due to the hidden window. If you discover the recovery window and use it, then you end up with *two* copies of your document open -- the one you've been editing (because you didn't realize it needed recovery since the recovery window was hidden), and the one that OO just recovered, which has all of the changes you made before OO was killed. The recovery window, and the entire recovery process, should *always* require that the user select whether to recover or not, before any other document can be opened, particularly when the document being recovered is the very document that the user is trying to open. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When I click File | Open in any of the applications I use in OOo, I am presented with the expected OPEN dialog. It opens to the last accessed path, which is good. However, if the file I want to open is NOT in that path or is far removed from the path, or especially on a different drive in a different directory, I must continuously drill-click "UP" until I get all the way to the top where I can finally choose another drive or directory. All other programs I've ever used provide a means to also pick a different drive from a click-point in this dialog box. OOo does not allow this. Instead one must click UP a directory at a time until they get far enough up the heirarchy to choose a different directory or drive letter. MS WORD's File | Open dialog is the best example of this done correctly. No matter what directory I may be in, it will let me go directly to another drive letter without having to click my way up the tree to the very top to get access to another drive letter. The related listbox doesn't even exist in OOo's presentation. I consider it an annoyance, not a bug, but it's a huge annoyance at times, especially when I'm pulling together data from several different sources or arranging a specific directory sctucture. Can OOo be gine the same ability? AFAIK OOo is the only application to NOT allow this sort of navigation in the File Open window (and other windows, too). If nothing else, OOo could probably link directly to the same function/api that windows (or whatever OS) uses, and display the very same window. Please, allow access to direct drive navigation from the File | Open dialogs. It would be a great improvement, a negation of an aggravation that occasionally can get really annoying. To duplicate it, drill down say five directory levels and open a file on say drive D. Now click File | Open and open a file on Drive E or any letter other than D; you'll see what I mean. No repeat that a few times and imagine an entire afternoon of that; it amounts to a fair amount of time and aggravation after awhile. [sw-issues] [Issue 88989] Images move/misalign when Inserted into Master Document
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88989 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 4 23:21:41 + 2008 --- The original and complete document used for reporting this issue resides at: http://twaynesdomain.com/ooo/1.zip and may be downloaded from there. N O T E : It is largish, 53 Meg, and a .doc file, which is what I started with, just in case it's the .doc conversion causing some sort of problem. My procedure was as follows: 1. Open OOo. Open the .doc file "5-3 CHRONOLOGICALLY SPEAKING.doc (writen in/with Office/WORD 2002). 2. Check briefly for proper conversion, Saved As .odt file. 3. Closed OOo. Reopened OOo. 4. Saved As 1.odt in order to shorten filename and ease of use for others. 5. Opened 1.odt 6. Prepapred a blank Master Document. Added a line of text at the top of it for posterity & display assistance. 7. Used Navigator to Insert File 1.odt into the Master Document as a subdocument. 8. Noted serious misalignment of images starting about page 6 and throughout the rest of the master document. 9. Closed Master Document. 10. Opened subdocument and checked images/alignment/positioning. All was OK and within reason. Closed file. 11. Reopened Master Document. Still same image problems: some moved out of table cells, some overlapped text & text showed through them, some text didn't sow trhough, several places images on a page all moved togehter, overlapping each other. It was consistant throughout the Master Document but nothing like it was in the original subdocument. Editting of course, can not be done in the Master Document, so there was no way I could see to work around this situation. After several more attempts and using various methods I could figure out and getting the results each time, I finally concluded something serious had to be amiss. Today I perforemd a Cold Boot of my machine and repeated the entire process again, only to come up with the same results. I was sure they would be the same, but ... still worth begin positive. In down-sizing the .odt I attached with the original issue report, I noted that as I cut out more and more pages, the misalignments became a little less each time but never did stop happening. I finally stopped downsizing and submitted the .odt that is in the original attachment. Possibly related?? I noticed today, and have at other times, that while in the Master Document, if I started a scroll-down and got a few steps ahead of the screen, the scroll- down would not stop, couldn't be reversed, and insisted on going to the very end of the file before it returned control to the system. No idea if it's related or not. I'm not even sure that's new since version 2.3. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [porting-issues] [Issue 89005] Wrong modifier key display ed in help content

There are two different things that are causing the bug: 1. The System tag is set to the wrong value - In the Contents/basis-link/share/registry/modules/org/openoffice/Office/Common/Common-macosx.xcu file, this tag is currently set to UNIX. It should be set to MAC. By setting it to MAC, it will cause proper handling of the many tags in the help files. Changing this setting will correct more than 95% of the cases of this bug in the English and German help files. 2. Control key references in the help files do not use the proper tag - Since before OpenOffice.org 1.1.x, most Control key references are put into the help files using the following tag. However, several such "line breaks in cells" and "copy" in Writer help use no tag: CommandCtrl - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The modification in embedserv/util/makefile.mk has side effect for MSVC build because of one line for library specification is missing, and the modifications in external/mingwheaders/makefile.mk causes perpetual copy and patch of atl headers because of one line of touch command is missing. I also found two build breakers in m11. 1. Build of filter/source/pdfimport is new and not compatible with mingw port so makefile.mk needs to be modified. 2. As the library specification of HNJLIB in solenv/inc/libs.mk is changed from = to *=, lingucomponent/source/hyphenator/altlinuxhyph/hyphen/makefile.mk has to be modified. I wonder why it has to be specified in two places ... A set of modified/additional patches follows. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The settings in the "View" tab act independently from the setting in "General" tab once they have been changed. MRU->OS: I think introducing an additional option "Default" for the measurement units in the "View" tab for the rulers could make this somehow easier to understand and to handle. At the current state it canno be set depending on the settings in "General" once they have been changed. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [gsl-issues] [Issue 89002] Symbol font problems
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89002 Issue #|89002 Summary|Symbol font problems Component|gsl Version|DEV300m11 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|PATCH Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|hdu Reported by|cmc --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun May 4 17:11:28 + 2008 --- So attached is a sample .odt which should cause all sort of problems when loaded on a system without wingdings installed. There are two problems, the first affects 2.3.X & 2.4.0 and the other just 2.4.0 I think. Firstly is the font cache. If we succeed in using the special symbol "recode" feature to convert Wingdings code points into OpenSymbol code points when we have a missing Wingdings font, then every *other* time we use OpenSymbol we fetch this "recoding" opensymbol from the cache, this causes the line of "I am a 'Q' in OpenSymbol, I don't exist" to actually get the Q recoded to a different existing location in OpenSymbol, something that won't happen if Wingdings is not used earlier. We need to ensure that an entry for a symbol font which does a recoding conversion is considered different to the same font which does a *different* recoding. The top part of the attached 1st patch does this. cmc->flr: i.e. IMO the 2.3.0 behaviour of showing an airplane for this second line is actually wrong, it should either be a [] (not found glyph), or a real 'Q' The second problem is on finding a font (not glyph) substitute for Wingdings in >= 2.4.0, this actually works beautifully except in writer. In sw/source/core/txtnode/fntcache.cxx SwFntObj::CreateScrFont if we are missing some information about a font we call "pOut->GetFontMetric()" with a *symbol* font called WingDings, as a symbol font we do not go near fontconfig and we got the OpenSymbol (magic recoding) built-in fallback. All perfect. Now though writer overwrites some info with the returned data of the real underlying font and does "aMet = pPrt->GetFontMetric()". The problem here is that the encoding has been copied from the real OpenSymbol metrics over the WingDings metrics and the "symbol" encoding has been lost because OpenSymbol is a "unicode" encoding not a symbol one. So now we're looking up a *non-symbol* font called WingDings and we *do* ask fontconfig for that and get back a non-symbol font not OpenSymbol and we get a 'Q' for I am a 'Q' in windings, recode me to OpenSymbol Fixing this could probably be done a few different ways, but one way is to always claim that [open|star]symbol is a symbol font (second part of the 1st patch), another would be in writer to only overwrite the missing properties (2nd alternative patch). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If the table contains more columns, for example, four or five, the result is always the same -- the second column is placed below the first.
