You may want to change the component. The same problem occurs for example in
Impress. Resizing the image in a graphics program such as Paint.NET (that is,
doing the anti-aliasing in a program other than OOo), then importing the smaller

BETA 3.0 version

The installed desktop icon initiates the OO Welcome screen/module selection. 
soffice.exe and soffice.bin are started as a Windows process.  Upon termination
of the OO task, the soffice.exe and soffice.bin process remain open and listed
by the task manager/processes.

An attempt to startup OO again using the Welcome Screen fails.  A second
soffice.exe appears in the Processes list.  OO Welcome Screen/module selection
will not load a second time unless soffice.exe and soffice.bin are deleted from
the Process list.

If the two soffice modules are removed from the Process list, the installed
desktop icon to the Welcome Screen functions as designed, otherwise it will 
fail.

I would like to have a parameter which allows frames to repeat for page types
and for paragraph types.  Currently, frames can be repeating if the frames are
inserted in a header or a footer.  However, this is difficult and not always
reliable.  Also, I could not find any capability for repeating frames attached
to paragraph styles.  

For example, attaching a frame containing a graphic which would appear to the
left of every paragraph using the style "Quotation."

After installing OOo 2.1 (also seen on 2.4.1) on a Windows XP SP3 system, I
noticed that the response time of the Windows Explorer significantly degraded. 
Specifically, response times went from near instantaneous to several seconds. 
Response time is measured from the time that I click on a folder and the time
that contents of the folder are displayed.  If I uninstall OOo, performance
returns to normal.  Repeating the install causes the behavior to reoccur.  

Suspecting that OOo was looking for files it couldn't find, I ran SysInternals
Filemon.exe (now available from Microsoft) to see what might be going on.  Sure
enough I see a lot of the following when I click on a folder:

explorer to go through each path specified in the PATH environment variable,
append "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program\shlxthdl.dll" to it, and
then search for it.  This process seems to repeat multiple times (possibly once
for each file in the directory or for each file of a certain type). Since I have
a lot of paths, the time delay is quite noticeable.  

I have not tried to reproduce this on another machine.

I'm trying to export to PDF with relative path to an hiperlink to other pdf
situated on the same path but if the name contains blank spaces (this is
substitued by %20) and when i try to follow the link in the generated PDF the
file is not found. If i correct the hiperlink and the file name removing the
white space in the name ex. "link 1.pdf" --->  "link1.pdf" it works ok.

Searching on the MS forums I saw some other requests that could well be handled
by this extended function.

FINDEX()

 Function Syntax: FINDEX(string, string, START, END)

Initially, when I wrote the code for the FindEx() function, I did NOT interpret
specifically a negative END position, BUT returned 0 IF START > END.

I did played with the idea to interpret negative values as pointing to the _end_
of the original string, though the code would have become to complex and I
abandoned the idea. The requests to search the end of the string (and even a
reverse search) did pop up on the MS forums, so I think it is time to get into
such an extended FINDEX() function, too.

The idea:
  - IF (START < 0) => begin to search at string position:
strlen() + START /* REMEMBER: START is negative */
  - IF (END < 0) => end search at string position:
strlen() + END   /* REMEMBER: END is negative */

So, it would be possible to specify relative positions from the beginnineg or
from the end of the original string.

This function would not cover a reverse-search, however, one could similarly
define an RSearchEx() function.

I find your resolution a little bit insulting as it ignores the whole work I 
put into documenting this issue. 
The issue is this: the time for generating a report increases non-liniarly when 
the number of pages of the report increases; so when I have a 12 page report it 
takes up to 30 minutes on a Vista machine.  
On an XP machine it takes 2 minutes for the same 12 pages report.
Now if you run the report with an empty database you get a page and see no 
issue. I thought it was common practice not to include data in the database 
when one files up an issue (for confidentiality reason).
At the time of second testing I installed OOo 2.4 on the XP machine and found 
it too buggy (the code stopped working) so I had to leave the Vista machine 
with OOo 2.3. 
Just saying every few months please investigate in a current version doesn't 
look very encouraging.

I just looked into Excel 2000:
- Drag without key = move and overwrite (after OK)
- Drag with Shift  = move and insert
- Drag with Ctrl   = copy and overwrite (without question)
- Drag with Ctrl+Shift = copy and insert
- Drag with Alt= same as without key

Surely, it would be nice to be "compatible" (meaning: recognizable) for Excel
users, but at least you can configure keyboard settings for yourself.
They main point is to have the functionality (move+insert) available at all.

cjw296, in your posting from 13:15 today you gave a pretty nice summary of the
single topics. In my opinion, they should be independent issues, because they
aren't the core requirement of this issue's basic requirement anymore, but just
following wishes.

However you decide, the default behaviour of both Cut and Copy should be the
same concerning insertion<-->overwrite.
When cutting a complete row/column, Excel's context menu offers both "Insert"
(leaving the old row/column empty and overwriting) and "Insert cut cells"
(moving and inserting).

In a specific group of fonts the underlining feature underlines beyond the end
of the line and cannot be turned off.  The point size does not seem to matter. 
Some of these fonts are Estrangelo Edessa, Gautami, Latha, Mangal, MV Boli,
Raavi, and Shruti.  A paragraph containing underlining can be changed into and
out of these fonts and the error will go away for other fonts such as Times New
Roman or Gothic and will return for the above fonts.  The length of the original
underlined portion will determine the overage of the extra underlining.

I did some more digging and found a way to reproduce the crash as often as I 
wish.
procedure:
1. login as user a
2. start OO with that user
3. open up a document
4. switch to user b without logging user a off
5. start OO
6. open a document
7. close the document (no need to save, i used discard) with the closer button
8. close the application with the menu ("Quit")
-> application will crash instead of closing ... 
-> in one occasion the overall system has blocked ... (i assume a reboot with 
an open Terminal would

It was the lack of codeline info that caused the confusion.  If it said 
"ooo300_m1/", I could have compared it to the current version and made an 
informed decision as to whether I continued with the m29 codeline, or switched 
to the m28/ooo300m2 build (I probably wouldn't.)

I would make one suggestion.

If you select "Only show upgrades from this codeline" and the codeline is 
superseded, it should show a message "codeline xxx has been replaced by yyy. Do 
you wish to download this?".

issue using an empty presentation and the tabs still don't work.

More facts:
- The presentations I've been working on have been edited using OOo 2.4. I use
OOo 3.0 when I present them, using the Sun Presenter Console extension (Could it
be the reason why tabs stop working?)
- My OOo 3.0 installation is fresh. I've only added the Sun Presenter Console
and PDF Import extensions.

reading the description (from leonbloy Sat Oct 13 14:10:40 + 2007), I'd
expect files that were saved with OOo 2.3 and up to show the problem even in OOo
3, as they were broken during save operation.

I asked for help in [de-qa] and I have got it from Volker Merschmann:

And indeed, I believe that the current proceeding is not optimum:

In attached screenshot from DEV300m29 you se that an update with OOO-dev 3.0.0
is available. The realation to "current OOo-dev 3.0" can't be understood without
additional information. Especial for QA testers some information in the message
box like "Internal version code "OOO300m1 / build " would be useful.
I downloaded the suggested upgrade
"OOo-Dev_OOO300_m1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe" what is from a different code
line (and not really the latest upgrade, we have OOO300_m2 on the mirrors since
yesterday).

Also I do not think that it is a good idea to present an upgrade suggestions
from different code lines. 

So I suggest to split this issue into 2 enhancement requests:
1. Add some Radio buttons (or check box)
   () show only upgrades from this code line xxx
   () show all upgrades
2. Improve information in Message box "search for updates" by explicit
   version and build information (may be with checkbox "show code line 
   information)

The fields look good when I open the document with OO 3.0 on SUSE 10.1 or WinXP.
MS Word uses the so-called zero-width spaces in these fields - I can imagine,
that the fonts used to display them on certain systems do not contain the
character (or the wrong one).
OO replaces with an alternative font if the character is not available - but it
could not recognize if the character looks differently... we'll have to
investigate a little more deeper...

i think the behaviour to justify the line before a line break (shift return) is
totally wrong. Typography suggests (strongly) that the spacing between words
should not be larger than the line spacing.
Assume you have 4 words in the line you want to end with a line break. Now think
of MS Word behaviour that drives these 4 words out to width of a ca. 15cm . This
is nothing but really ugly.

Furthermore if i want a line break in my text, i also want the reader to see
that there is a line break. If OO.org now also justifies this line, the new line
will be barely visible. Except if there is the above described huge, ugly word
spacing.

The argument that MSWord does it in this way is no argument at all. As far as I
know Tex does it the way OO.org used to do (in the old versions).
