When I run OOo writer on the secondary screen (DISPLAY=0.1) using Gtk+ VCL plugin (USE_VCL_SALPLUGIN=gtk), it tries to move the window onto the primary one and then crashes immediately with the following message: X-Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode: 150 Minor opcode: 23 Resource ID: 0x2800780 Serial No:10301 (10301) These errors are reported asynchronously, set environment variable SAL_SYNCHRONIZE to 1 to help debugging The gen VCL plugin works, but also moves the window onto the primary screen, where it stays even after exiting fullscreen mode. From what I've found in source code I think OOo is not ready for multi-head configurations yet (for example, WorkWindow::ShowFullscreenMode() is always called with default screen number). I've changed the code a little so fullscreen window stays on the same screen, which incidentally has solved the primary problem as well. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 93801] Find should find despite d emarcated insertions
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93801 Issue #|93801 Summary|Find should find despite demarcated insertions Component|framework Version|OOo 2.4.0 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|tm Reported by|nicklevinson --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Sep 12 03:54:07 + 2008 --- For a Find, bracketed substrings and similarly-delimited substrings, when they're insertions, should be ignorable and interpretable to produce results. A user may search based on known original text without knowing about a subsequent insertion. It's standard practice in scholarly and legal quotations to insert text into quotations on good authority and bracket it. Journalists and popular writers often use parentheses the same way, and scholars may use parentheses for insertions into nonquoted strings. Thus, a search for "visit to the store" should also find "visit to the [grocery] store". Brackets are also used by lawyers and scholars to change case. For instance, suppose a judge said, "One person, one vote." Suppose a lawyer writes a brief to agree with it, and writes "We believe in the principle of '[o]ne person, one vote.'" Suppose a user searches for "One person, one vote" (without quote marks), but because the string is common the user narrows the search by specifying case-sensitivity. Use of these conventions shows the author of the brief was referring to a capital O but bracketed a lower-case o because it was midsentence. From the lawyer's brief, you would know that the judge's original statement began with a capital O. A similar problem could arise if a cookbook said "Begin with the ingredients". Someone writing about their experience might then write "Begin[ning] with the ingredients, I made a disaster." A search for "Begin with the ingredients" should find the latter, but should not find "Beginning with the ingredients", which is different and lacks the brackets. Not only should it be possible to return a result by eliding the brackets and bracketed content, but an adjacent space should also be elided because of what would have been in the original if no bracketed text had ever been inserted. But the algorithm can't always subtract a space; there might not have been one. To preserve literalness in Find, bracket-exclusion should be an option within a fuzzy search option. By checkmarking for fuzzy, a list of options might come up, all preselected but each user-deselectable. Bracket-exclusion could be one. This, I imagine, would put OOo ahead of major competitors like MS Office. I'm using OOo Writer 2.4.0 without Java Runtime Environment on Linux Fedora Core 4 with Gnome 2.10.0 desktop on a Pentium 4 laptop. I didn't see this feature. I still haven't understood what the situation is like after fma's work: can I assume that everything which appeared correctly (i.e., in Italian) in OOo 2.4.1 now does the same in OOo 3.0-to-be? If at least we got all strings from 2.4.1 back, including the three examples I made at the beginning, we might maybe reconsider the priority of this issue. Is it possible to know where these 1000+ remaining strings (or 15000 words) are? I have contacted the kind people at EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) ( http://www.eff.org ), who do have lawyers on hand specifically to address these kinds of issues. I don't know if they have any better suggestions, but if the only reason for not implementing this CRITICAL feature is because of fear of legal ramifications, then it seems consulting lawyers who specialize in electronic intellectual property laws/rights, would be the best source to consult before completely giving up on some variant of an "embedded fonts" capability (such as the aforementioned partial functionality of somehow only allowing "open" fonts to be embedded). Please reconsider opening this feature for now, for consideration. I don't know if the EFF folks will take this on, or even be able to suggest any more than you have from the "Chilling Effect" of the "Adobe vs. ITC" and other cases. But it is certainly worth investigating before completely giving up on so critical a feature. This lacking component is a show-stopper feature for our magazine at the very least. And I can only imagine how many others are stuck, unable to fully utilize OO for similar reasons, and forced to either use MS/Adobe commercial products, or completely stuck because there is no alternative on their operating system (many of us use only Linux, BSD, Solaris, etc.), and have no alternative, and are being seriously impacted in trying to collaborate in the final stages of the zine. Thank you all for you great work and efforts, and please do not give up on this feature just yet. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The false behaving of OOo 300 RC1 (under XP Pro SP 3 with all patches) depends on the level of "shown heading levels" (german "Angezeigte Überschriftenebenen"). If you choose in navigator only one level (only headings 1), then OOo 3 RC1 behaves false, if you select in navigator as many levels as you used in the text, everything ist OK. In the attached example open navigator select in navigator "shown level" 1, select "Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 1", click on "Chapter up" (german "Kapitel hoch"). Error! Undo everything. I found out that the problem is that used font is not installed on the system. The problem is not the position, the text is too large (width). In this document the font "Albany AMT" is used that I have not installed on my PC. If I select text and change it to "Arial", it looks fine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is only occur when Writer window is maximized. It was no such defect in version 2.4.1. Here is the screenshot: http://keep4u.ru/imgs/b/080911/2a/2a4c955f46dcd32aeb.jpg (Sorry, I do not know how to attach it to the report) When the window is not maximized, then the bug is much less visible: it looks like duplicate or missed pixel rows. Just as in older versions of OOo: http://keep4u.ru/imgs/b/080911/4e/4e4f59c42054b7f434.jpg I can't figurte out when exactly soft scrolling occur (more often document scrolls by small hops, not softly). But when it occurs (usually when I move cursor out of the viewed part), the image is usually corrupted. To fix view I need to minimize and maximize the window (to redraw it completely). Interesting that old versions of Firefox and unpatched Word 2007 had the same scrolling issue. Now the time of OOo :) I have non-standart screen dpi factor set in Vista (higher than 75 dpi). May be this is the reason? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'd like to proceed this issue. I'd like you to apply this patch for the next release (3.1?) if this patch doesn't have any problem. I will reattach the same patch regenerated for 3.0 codeline. This patch is minimal and basic for reconversion. It's just the first stage. After you integrate this patch, I will deal with other controls and applications for reconversion by filing issues respectively. [l10n-issues] [Issue 93539] [IT] Dozens of untranslate d strings in Calc Online Help
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93539 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Sep 11 18:13:14 + 2008 --- I have it, but they contain untranslated strings too. Maybe I just discovered what happened. During the first handoff I assigned that file to a stranslator. She did not translate it completely, however she sended it back to me just to upload only translated strings. In fact that file contain all strings marked as translated even if they were not. I did not have the time to check it (or assign this duty to others) because it was the last day to upload files into Pootle. So I uploaded it anyway... At last it's all my fault. It seems the problem is also due to the way OmegaT handle untranslated segments (Maybe this is why it is not so suitable for translating .po files). At this point I think it's unuseful to work with the old file, which still contain 1000+ untranslated strings. We were going to fix the last file. It would be useful a full tm of 2.4 anyway, given that some translated strings in OOo 2.4 are not present in the tm. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Not supporting the third modifier (Alt on PCs, Ctrl on Mac) looks like a severe own goal to me, as you're not able to clone the MS Office UI on OOo that way. Like most of the people on this planet I have to use Word and Writer in parallel, and that way you can't really get used to a keyboard layout as you have to switch back and forth all the time. IMHO things like these are the main reasons why OOo will never be able to get a serious market share compared to MS Office (for the same reason the undoubtedly more efficient Dvorak keyboard layout will never replace qwerty/z...). Using AltKeyHandler I could at least partially fix the problem. Not being able to solve it on Mac is a darn pity... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. These are the results I followed to confirm the fix. 1. Open, open office impress, leave default settings as is and click create. 2. Create a slide with the third layout under task or any other layout besides the blank layout because it contains one section and the other layouts contain different sections as described by the original poster. 3. Add random text in different sections with different font sizes, for example the third layout named "Title, Text" add text in title section font size 44, then add text to the text section at size 18. 4. In the preview window, right below the text formatting toolbar there are a couple of tabs. Click the tab that is named "Outline". From there you can select all text on every slide and change the font size and/or font type and you can also select the text from any particular slide. This issue has been resolved in the 3.0.0 beta 2 version of Open Office and might I add is a useful feature... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Open new blank Impress Presentation 2. Insert additional slides by going to Insert->Slide (I created 5 slides) 3. Change focus to slide 1 by clicking in the editable slide (not the Slide pane on the left) 4. Scroll with the touchpad 5. Use the pg down key and pg up key 6. Use the arrow keys Observations: When focus is on the editable slide: Using the scroll portion of my touchpad, only the current slide scrolls. In other words, it doesn't change slides. Using the pg up and pg down keys on my keyboard; however, does change between slides properly. Arrow keys scroll up, down, left, and right but do not change the active slide. When the focus is on the slide pane: Using the scroll portion of my touchpad scrolls the view, but does not change the active slide. Using the pg up and pg down keys on my keyboard changes the active slide. Arrow keys do nothing. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Method: 1. Create an empty presentation. 2. Add some content to the first slide. (I used the text "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.") 3. Click the menu option Insert -> Slide. 4. Add some content to the second slide. (I added a rectangle.) 5. Make sure you're in the Normal tab. 6. Press Page Up. The view changes to the first slide. 7. Press Page Down. The view changes to the second slide. 8. Hover the mouse cursor over the slide. 9. Scroll the mouse wheel up and down. The current slide scrolls up and down, but the view does not switch to a different slide. 10. Hover the mouse cursor over the "Slides" pane on the left. 11. Scroll the mouse wheel up and down. The slide does not change.
