I have similar problems with Greek fonts and have read reports that the same
occurs with Hebrew fonts. Frankly, I don't expect that someone will eventually
take care of this bug (it's been around for years) but i thought i had to let
you know it does not affect only polish fonts.

Further notes: the spreadsheet was originally created in 2.4 or 2.4.1. It is
not a 3.0rc1 original document.

I am using calc to create tabular data of text strings. In RC1 sometimes when I
type Ctrl C to copy the hour glass pops up and the application ceases to
respond. Checking running applications does not indicate the OpenOffice has
stopped working. It may be that after a period of time the application will
start to respond again (I'm working and don't have time to wait all day and
see). But, after at least 15 minutes the application continues to be
unresponsive. I say application because it effects all OO documents/windows
open.

I have a comment about the status bar on OpenOffice 3.0.
It does not fit in the window properly on my office computer. I can only see
half of the percent box next to the zoom slider. The rest of that box is cut
off. The rest of Writer's window fits fine.
However, on my home computer, with a better resolution, the status bar is fine.
I though you should be made aware of this problem.
Test it on a monitor with a lower resolution setting.
Thank you.

The fix is safe and only affects the Aqua port anyway. Considering the user
experience on
systems that have the problematic fonts I still think that getting an approval
for a OOo3.0
target would be quite beneficial.

Either OOo or MS Excel has the similar result after sorting. They two result in

The reason not to use atk_object_set_name here is that it generates
name-changed events, which should
not be send from get_name. OTOH we need to cache the name as the object will be
asked for it when it
goes to DEFUNCT state where any call to the wrapped UNO object will just throw
a disposed exception.

I would expect obj->name to be initialized with NULL when the object gets
created, but maybe that is no
longer valid ? Anyway, the patch can' t do any harm AFAICT.

I think I replicate this bug in OOo RC1, Windows XP system

See the attached file.
1. Create a new presentation
2. Go to the Notes tab
3. Start typing. The text is hanging-indented
4. Make a bullet, type, the text is hanging indented, then either delete the
bullet by backspacing to erase it, or delete it by turning off bullets for that
paragraph, and the bullet goes but the text is hanging indented.
5. Try the same in the slide itself and the text hanging-indents with the bullet
and de-indents when you remove the bullet.
6. Similarly in writer, click on the bullets icon to create a bulleted
paragraph, type and see that it is hanging-indented. Then click on the icon to
remove the bullet and the paragraph de-indents.
The bug in the old version appears not to reflect the default presentation of
the bullet but instead reflects an inconsistent way of linking hanging indents
with bullets.

Would you like checking it once more in the latest OOo build and give more

If we open a large document, it take very long time to show the contents to the
users. While MS showes pretty quicker than OOo.

I'll attach a sample.

Hunspell, the Sourceforge item, looks interesting but I can't evaluate it or how
it would be integrated into OOo.

I'm not sure I'd call it an affix, since to a linguist an affix is a prefix,
infix, or suffix and English uses no infixes although some other languages do,
but there's no shortage of available alternative terminology.

Thanx for adding the info.

The methods in the interface XMenuListener don't follow naming convention
refered in

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/DevGuide/AppendixA/Events

It's not possible to map the listener in a VB6 COM object for use in Automation
bridge because "select" is a reserved word

I believe they should be named "itemSelect", "itemActivate" and "itemDeactivate"

In OOo2.4.1 I could enlarge the preview objects and arrange them as I like, for
example putting 4 of them in one column.

If I now open that presentation in OOo3.0RC1 and try to print a handout, I can
only print in standard size and arrangement. The handout master still shows the
preview objects in that size and arrangement which I made in 2.4.1, but I cannot
get that printed.

That is loss of a useful feature.

I've updated the patch to address the 2nd and 3rd issues that nn raised.

> - Eike's suggestion "Multiline meMultiline : 2" doesn't work with MSVC,
> because
> it uses (signed) int as the default underlying type for enums.

I simply removed the trailing :2 size specifier. Will this be enough? We
(William and I) don't seem to have a good Windows develoment environment, so
any suggestion for this would be appreciated if this change will not be
adequate.

> - Kohei's change, with ScXMLExport::IsMultiLineFormulaCell always calling
> ScDocument::GetCell, adds some performance overhead. I didn't measure it, but
> load/save is something we don't want to slow down (at least if multiple-line
> formula results aren't used).

I've made some change so that ScDocument::GetCell() gets called only once.

I think MODE is actually behaving as intended - as documented (a) in ODFF and
(b) here:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/How_Tos/Calc:_MODE_functi
on

and also as Excel behaves.

Might this be more of an enhancement request?

You can find out if there is only one mode by:
=MAX(A1:A8)-MODE(MAX(A1:A8)-A1:A8)=MODE(A1:A8)

where A1:A8 contain the data, but I accept it's a bit messy

Ah! Now I got you (/me thinks :) ... which doesn't give me any idea why this
should fail, sadly.

(As a slightly related note, there's a "simple bootstrap mechanism", which works
when the jars are located in their usual place inside the OOo installation,
which automatically starts the OOo the jars belong to. Maybe this is a
workaround for your problem, as you would not need the batch file anymore.)

No I don't - sorry for the confusion...

I have - OpenOffice 2.4 installed once and had copied the jars to a folder
called openofficejars. In my exe's I had the classpath of openofficejars
instead of openOffice 2.4/program/classes - I have now changed that so I use the
jars from the open office installation not copies. So there is only one copy of
jars used and one copy of open office on the PC

When I call soffice from say a command line to start office listening mailmerge
works fine also if I configure the quick starter by changing the setup file - it
works fine. The problem I have is when I call my start office .bat file from
within my java app, mailmerge fails - everything else within office works.

All that changes is where my start office .bat file is called. All I am trying
to acheive is to re-start office from within my java app after refreshing
documents and the odb file which is maintained seperately. Does that make
sense..

I have emailed a longer note to Oliver Craemer about this bug. I have confirmed
that the problem still exists under 3.0.0 OOO300m5.

It appears that it may be due to the fact that MS Excel will reach across open
workbooks to find definitions of both NAME DEFINEs and VBA MACROS.

If it is true that OOCALC cannot use VBA MACROS there should at least be a way
to print them out from old Excel spreadsheets so one doesn't have to boot
Windows (and Excel) (if one can even do so). I thought the entire point of Open
Office was to not have to use closed source!

And the reaching across workbooks for definitions is essential -- otherwise one
could potentially have to enter hundreds (maybe thousands) of definitions in
every single workbook which needs to use those definitions. And there isn't a
way to copy (export+import) Excel or OO "name defines" that I am aware of.

[dba-issues] [Issue 93457] table controls with check boxes bound to a non-NULLable column must not allow the "indetermined" state

better idea:
Given that check box form controls have a "Tristate" property, which can be set
to "Yes" or "No", we should allow this property for check box columns, too.
Then, when a table control column is created for a table/query column which is
defined to be NOT NULL, "Tristate" will automatically be set to YES, and to NO
otherwise. This should hold for both table control columns in the form designer,
and for columns in the table data view.

fs->od: Currently, the protection of the section is not forwarded to the drawing
layer objects, but instead it is managed at the respective SwDrawContact
instance.

I am uncertain about the best way how to solve this. Ideally, I would suggest we
introduce something like "SetContentProtect" at the SdrObject (SetMoveProtect
and SetResizeProtect already exist, though they're not used by the "section
protection" feature). Then, when a section (or any other objects in Writer which
allow to be protected - when digging the code, I got the impression there's more
than sections here) is un/protected, it should call this new method at all
SdrObjects contained in it.

However, I do not know whether this approach is feasible for Writer. Please
advise.

OOo 3.0-RC1 under Windows Vista. Using default (native) dialogs.

In "File -> Open" the checkbox "Readonly" appears in English in both the Italian
version (where it should read "Sola lettura") and the German version (where it
should read "Nur lesen"). Other localizations are probably affected by this too.

The same problem appears in the "File -> Save as" option for automatic
extension.

A workaround is to use OpenOffice.org dialogs (disabled by default).

Other, maybe related, problems with the file picker dialogs under Vista are
described in issue 91869 and related.

[Reported by Mario Govoni during Italian QA tests]

> This is definitely correct
>
> "Do you by chance mix up some paths to the unoil.jar etc files? Perhaps you
> start OOo from one installation, but your Java program is set up to use
> unoil.jar etc. from another installation?"
>
> The answer is yes - is that what you mean by "instance"

Okay, just to be sure ...
- You have two OpenOffice.org installations
- you start the first OpenOffice.org (in "C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4")
  with the accept=... parameter
- you start a Java program, which is set up to use the unoil.jar from
the second OpenOffice.org installation (what version is this?)
- This Java program connects to the running OOo instance by using the same
connection string (I do not know where getRemoteServiceManager comes from,
but be it for now ...)
- in the Java program, the DatabaseContext lists you the wrong registered
  data sources

Correct so far?

Why I am asking that detailed: Connecting via Java to a running OOo instance and
working with (not only) registered data sources is the daily food of quite a
number of our test cases - if this would fail in the way you described, then
this would have been noticed much earlier.

So, there must be a difference between your setup and the setup we use for our
respective test cases - and I'm trying to find out which one.

One difference I see is that you use two OOo versions, so I'd like to stress
this a little ...

If you
- start the second OOo version
- via Tools/Options, register a few other data sources
- close this OOo version
- start the first OOo version
- run your Java program which prints the names of the elements of the
  DatabaseContext
, what is printed then? Does your program emit the names of all the newly
registered data sources then?

Any chance you try this with the vanilla OpenOffice.org as obtained from

@sardisson

Thanks for the comments.

So, what type must be used ? Looking at the list FileInfo does propose, I
think there is no other choice,
but I'm probably wrong.

Other possibilities I found i n the documentation, are framework , bundle or ..
I don't know.
Got a better idea ?

The Creator looks fine.

You don't want to be setting the Type on document files (like the creator007.odt
in the screenshot) to 'APPL'; that Type is reserved for applications.

If you can't set the right Type per document type (which is what I take "but we
need to set them on the fly, what is not trivial (at least, I have no direct
solution)" to mean, you should not set the Type at all, or use '' as the
Type instead, and just set the Creator and fix only half of this bug.

This is a duplicate of issue 8302:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=8302

Please vote for that issue. Please also note that I started a discussion on
writing the specification for that issue, but almost nobody replied to my post.
At the same time, it seems that people do not even fully test the competitive
programs to detect what the competition actually does.

Inserting an empty row (a new row) should be pretty trivial, but
inserting/moving another row is slightly more complex. I would like to do it
better than Excel in these situations.

The following steps will reproduce the error with the attached example document.

1. Open Form "Table1"
2. Create a new Record (Click the "New Record" button in the navigation bar)
3. Enter any character(s) in the textfield labeled "field"
4. Delete the characters
5. Press the "Save Record" button

I can reproduce this behaviour on my Ubuntu 8.04 box with
- 2.4.1-1ubuntu2 (the latest OpenOffice version in Ubuntu)
- OOO300m5 Build:9350 (RC 1)

Saving a new record without modifying any of its fields throws a "Function
sequence error".
Normally it shouldn't be possible to save a newly created record - the "Save
Record" button is grayed out.
If you however change the contents of a field and then empty it again, the
save-button stays active.

I can think of two possible ways to solve this problem:
- Fix the gui, so the save-button becomes inactive when a user clears the whole
form after entering some values
- Fix the underlying error so the record gets saved with all NULL values

Reassigning to me

@sardisson

That's what I have currently. Is it correct ?

In fact, we have a lot of creator types Apple registered, but we need to set
them on the fly, what is not
trivial (at least, I have no direct solution)

FYI, I have used just a little part of the patch, because most of it is
obsolete, and only one parameter
was set(two need to be set)

Some problems:

- Conversion to unformatted text still unconditionally includes the LF
character, regardless of the system's line delimiter. For the clipboard, where
we don't use text delimiters (quotes), including any line delimiter will break
the table structure.

- Eike's suggestion "Multiline meMultiline : 2" doesn't work with MSVC, because
it uses (signed) int as the default underlying type for enums.

- Kohei's change, with ScXMLExport::IsMultiLineFormulaCell always calling
ScDocument::GetCell, adds some performance overhead. I didn't measure it, but
load/save is something we don't want to slow down (at least if multiple-line
formula results aren't used).

Loaded the new MacOSX 10.5.5 update - OOo will not start any more. It looks a
lot like the JRE timeout issue, but even with X11 (the new one - 2.1.5, i am
unable to get OOo to start at all. Tried backing out 2.4.1 and restore 2.4.0 -
same issue. I am on a 2.8 GHz intel iMac with 2 GB memory and have been using
OOo since i got this machine and for a few years on the G4 PowerBook which
preceded it. Use for word processing and spreadsheets almost exclusively.

In The Netherlands we use US International keyboards. These keyboards have a
decimal point on the numpad (shared with the Delete key), but we use a comma to
for values like €1,95. In Dutch OpenOffice.org when you press the decimal point
on the numpad a comma is inserted instead of a decimal point.

That's great for typing numerical values, but it can also be very annoying. I
don't type much numerical values. I type a lot of IP-addresses and the I don't
want a comma, but a decimal point. Because I want to quickly type these
IP-addresses, I want to use the numpas, but I can't, because I can't type a
decimal point on the numpad.

Another example is when I'm typing numbers of paragraphs. I want to be able to
type "Paragraph 2.7.3", but when using the numpad I'll get "Paragraph 2,7,3".

Some people use the comma a lot, others use the decimal point a lot. I'd be nice
if we'd choose wether we want a decimal point or a comma being inserted when
pressing the key on the numpad. It'd be nice if there were two ways to switch
between the decimal point and the comma.

1. By clicking somewhere in the interface.
2. By using the keyboard for quick switching, a hotkey like Ctrl + Numerical
point.

If that patch fixes anything, it probably just shows that we should not touch
atk_obj->name at all. However I can see no harm in the patch, so I'm going to
commit most of it to CWS vcl94 (g_strcmp0 is 2.16 upwards, way to new).

obr: do you have an opinion on this ?

The class path is now set to the OOinstall/programs/classes and all the jars in
there are now added to the classpath.

Results are still the same..NoSuchElementException..

Additional info - the application before the merge - opens a document "hidden"
changes the printer to print to and then saves the document - all fine.
