[sc-issues] [Issue 5658] Spreadsheet thinks a number is a string (text)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5658 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 4 08:02:02 + 2008 --- I have to chime in with those who argue that this issue almost cost me serious money. A proposal from one of my vendors showed costs that were off by hundreds of dollars per month; my customer would have sued me had I not caught this in time. When loading an XLS spreadsheet, it is absolutely imperative that the results are the same as they were in Excel. That should override any philosophical considerations on what the right treatment is - when you are competing with Excel and advertising compatibility, then right is what Excel does. Anything else may be appropriate for an ivory tower - but not for the real world of business. As a consultant, I used to tell my customers to replace Microsoft Office with OpenOffice. But until this issue is fixed, I cannot do that any more. And the fact that, as I now see, this discussion has been dragging on for six years does not help to build trust in OpenOffice. How many other such issues are there lurking, and will they also take more than half a decade of discussion without a solution? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In the cell itself it is shown correct, but the formula editor shows that it now has a leading ' in front of it. As a consequence it can't be detected by the format settings of calc for this cell as a date value. Also affected are strings like this: myDate = 1.10. (language: de, means 1st of october) so the Format function not seems to be the reason. It works perfect with casting it to Date-format before assigning it to the cell. regards jimmyjazz - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. For example, some rows were 0.37cm and 0.32cm height in OOo 2.4 and when i open the same file with OOo 3.0 RC3 all the rows are set to 0.45cm. I also have a logo picture inbetween rows 1 and 8, and it's now stretched and aspect ratio is no more correct because of row height increase. I can send you some samples files (ods and pdf generated with 2.4.1) if you need them... Thank you and sorry for my bad english. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. That is general decision that these strings are translatable, but every team decides itself will these strings be translated or not. In my case definitely NOT. We translate only booleans (TRUE, FALSE) because mathematical logic is an old discipline and is of course teached in schools in native language, also we translate greek letters, because only webmasters know greek letters english names and all users are not webmasters. ;) Function names are mostly english abbreviations, and when we would start to make new abbreviations in our language it is exactly as hard to understand as english ones. Only difference is that users are used to english ones (also mostly a meaningless sequence of characters...). But sometimes some lines seem to be misaligned and Writer moves them up/down a pixel. These Lines are moved one by one with a delay of ~2 seconds between each line. Here is an animated gif showing the bug: http://www.pfadwaechter.de/openoffice/ openoffice_bug.gif (document used for animation: http://www.pfadwaechter.de/ openoffice/test.odt) The redrawing continues even if the user modifies content below the changed paragraph. This is very distracting since the eye is trained to register movement outside of its focus. I gave this bug a priority of 3 because i think that it is more than just a cosmetic issue. Another interesting point is that this bug occurs in all versions of OpenOffice since 1.x. Reproduction of the bug: - open test.odt - select any paragraph (preferably the first one) - change font size to 13 - click somewhere else in the document (to deselect the paragraph) - watch ... i could reproduce the bug with the provided document very easily, but it does not always occur all the time in all documents. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 94516] preview problem with slide s in page format A4
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94516 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 4 16:06:16 + 2008 --- I was not able to reproduce exactly the same problem with the A4 size not displaying the first slide however I performed the following steps and made the following observations of similar behaviour. Using the same presentation file but Windows XP SP 2 (OOO300m8 Build 9357) 1. Open the file by clicking on the document. 2. Select Format Page 3. Change the Page size to A0 and click OK 4. The preveiw pane shows only 2 slides and text for Slide 6 (as shown in the attachment) 5. If you move the slider for the preview pane, the outlines of the remaining slides start to appear and if you resize it, all of the slides appear normally in the preview pane. 6. Once the slider has been resized, the behaviour is again normal with all slides being visible in the preview pane. 7. To recreate the problem you have to close Impress and then restart by opening the file and following the steps as outlined above. By simply resizing the slider and reopening the file, there was no difference – I had to change the page size. The following Page formats were also attempted with the following observations: 1. A1 shows the preview of 3 slides 2. A2 shows the preview of 4 slides 3. A3 shows the preview of 5 slides 4. A5 has all 6 slides visible I also tried other presentation documents with multiple slides and experienced similar behaviour. In Powerpoint 2007, I was not able to reproduce the problem. The preview pane showed all of the slides. Other than moving the preview pane slider, there is one more action which will display all slides normally. Following are the steps. 1. Open any Impress file by double clicking on the file. (Let’s say “File1”) 2. Open another impress file from the menu “File Open” (Let’s Say “File 2”) 3. In the opened file “File 2”, change the Page size to A0 and click ‘OK’ – The problem is reproduced. 4. Press “Alt +Tab” from the keyboard - Impress file “File 1” is displayed. 5. Press “Alt+Tab” again from the keyboard - “File 2” is displayed but the problem has disappeared. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Apparently, some of the settings are saved, and not others. This means that I still have to manually adjust certain settings for every table, even after Autoformatting, which drastically limits the utility of that functionality. Step-by-step instructions, which unfailingly produce the fault on my own system, follow. -- run OO Writer -- File | New | Text Document -- Table | Insert | Table -- Size: Columns: (6), Rows: (6) -- OK -- Table | Select | Table -- Table | Table Properties... -- Table tab | Alignment: (Left) -- Text Flow tab | (check) Allow table to split, (UN-check) Allow row to break -- Borders tab | Line: (0.50 pt), Spacing to contents: (L 0.04, R 0.04, T 0.02, B 0.02) -- OK -- Table | AutoFormat... -- Add -- (Test), OK -- OK -- File | Close | Save -- (arbitrary name and logical location), OK -- File | New | Text Document -- Table | Insert | Table -- Size: Columns: (6), Rows: (6) -- OK -- Table | Select | Table -- Table | AutoFormat... -- (Test) | OK -- Table | Table Properties... -- Inspection reveals that, for the Borders tab: Line: (0.50 pt), Spacing to contents: (L 0.02, R 0.02, T 0.02, B 0.02) -- Inspection reveals that, for the Text Flow tab: (check) Allow table to split, (check) Allow row to break -- This indicates that L-R spacing and row check box settings were not saved properly This problem makes the Table Autoformat functionality almost useless to me, since I still have use the Properties dialogue box to set multiple settings, even after I apply an Autoformat. I am hoping that this defect is already being corrected in OO 3.0, but I thought that I'd report it, just to make sure that developers were aware of it. [framework-issues] [Issue 94631] OpenOffice breaks OverDriv e, common audio book format
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94631 Issue #|94631 Summary|OpenOffice breaks OverDrive, common audio book format Component|framework Version|current Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P4 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|tm Reported by|stl110017 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Oct 4 17:35:52 + 2008 --- This is a name-space conflict with the extention .odm. OverDrive Media Console is a common application used by public libraries to distribute audio books and uses the extension .odm When attempting to download the audio book, after Oo is installed, the download link brings up OpenOffice, and then cannot do anything with the file. These is no way to get the file to OverDrive once .odm is bound to OpenOffice. A quick and easy fix in Windows is to remove .odm from the known extensions list, then re-install OverDrive. If the user does not use master documents, this doesn't cause much inconvenience. I don't know what sort of change to Oo would be possible -- maybe simply documenting the situation (I hesitate to call it a bug) with the work-around would be enough. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Turning the Auto Extension off, and trying to save with the original name/extension, but using PDF in the file format dropdown, fails (The file could not be written) - FINE, that's OK Turning the Auto Extension off, trying to save with the original name/extension, and saving somewhere else (for instance in root) with PDF selected works correctly: the extension overrides the file format selection, so the file created keeps the extension AND the format - FINE, that's OK Turning the Auto Extension off, and trying to save with a DOC extension and with PDF format selected, creates a file with the DOC extension and PDF contents - this NOK. Admittedly it took me a lot of criminal energy to dig this case out. As regards me, the main problem I have complained about, does not arise in the Windows environment. I have not tested other programs, as this is the framework issue. Regards smo - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 94136] slide show crashes
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94136 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Oct 5 02:21:53 + 2008 --- I have attempted to reproduce issue 94136 on numerous platforms without success. On each of the following configurations, the attached presentation1.odp and .ppt files were able to launch and play successfully. i.e., Impress did not crash, and the slides were displayed as expected: 1. win2003 server sp1, with the 300m7 install. (2G memory) 2. win2003 server sp2, 300m8 install. (2G memory) 3. winXP sp3, 300m7 install (512M memory) 4. win2000 sp4, 2.4.1 (512M memory) 5. win2000 sp4, 300m8 (512M memory) Additionally, I attempted to load and play the file on a resource constrained machine (the win2k3 sp2 server), under load, without issue. Numerous other memory-intensive applications were running, and the CPU was nearly pegged. This too was successful. On each test machine listed above, I have been able to open other .ppt and .odp files both with and without music, and all have played/run successfully. As a result of the above investigation, I feel more information is required to pinpoint the issue from the individual who logged the bug. Chiefly: 1. is the issue still reproducible? What about on 300m8? 2. what are the details of the system (both hardware and software) this issue was encountered on? Was anything else running at the time? 3. Is this issue specific to your machine? 3. On what version of OO.o was the presentation created on? 4. On what service pack of Win2k did you encounter the issue? Hopefully, with this additional information, the issue can be replicated, or further pinpointed. In the absence of more information, I'd recommend this issue be resolved 'WorksForMe. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94621 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Oct 5 04:17:55 + 2008 --- I could reproduce the issue. My environment is XP SP2 with Office 2003 OOo Version is OOO300m7(Build 9354) Steps to Replicate: 1. Open a new MS Powerpoint presentation. 2. Insert -- Picture-- select a image on the first slide. 3. Right click on the image, select Custom animation 4. In the 'Custom Animation' side bar, click on 'Add Effect -- Motion path -- Draw Custom Path -- Scribble. 5. Scribble the custom path on the slide with start point on the image. 6. Save and close MS PPT 7. Open this PPT in Impress Voila!! bug reproduced. My followup tests confirmed that, the critical condition to this bug is, the start point of the custom path should be on the image. I will attach the PPTs I created to reproduce this issue. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
