The problem: If I close the document and reopen it in MS Word, the note will have disappeared completely. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=91015 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 29 00:24:45 + 2008 --- Is there any possibility of having this issue re-opened as it is significant enough to effect the viability of OOo3 (and potentially OOo) in our business. We have serious user concerns about wasting time if many hours of work is lost through simultaneous file editing. OOo has been our company standard since version 1.1 and IS currently installed on every desktop, but it is just not possible for us to exclusively use OOo (eg our Finance team still have a requirement for Excel). We always expect to operate in a mixed application environment and our applications must "play nicely" with each other to be viable - application interoperability is more than just reading each others files. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. There are multiple problems with this approach. First up, it's mostly a wild guess of what the delimeter is, unless you want to dig into the middle of a help paragraph that's buried somewhere. Second - you have to specifically insert it after pressing the 'select data range' button (that is not mentioned in the help), because adding it before that will cause the select data range dialog to wipe out the previous data range. Third, in order to add the delimeter, you have to unselect the previous range, since it is automatically selected. And fourth, it's not exacltly easy to use. So why not make it so that if the user is holding ctrl (or another modifier) while selecting cells/ranges, the selection should be added to the current data range. This seems a log easier (and probably more intuitive, since a lot of people are used to selecting multiple items in various programs by holding ctrl). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Better UIs for years now have handled this type of situation by offering to duplicate the current style to a new name. For example, duplicating First Page would make a style called First Page copy, and then you would modify that style from there. Currently, there is a problem with style naming in OO: you can't change the name once the style has been created. This should be fixed. But if for some reason you think this is a feature, then the Duplicate command would have to first ask for the name to be used for the duplicate. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. And each time you change it, check mark changes. In "For all text" your selection is ignored -- there is _no_ check mark. So in this sense it does not work -- check mark does not appear. > If you want a check mark (as it is shown for "selection", please file an > other Enhancement request for this. Exactly. I will reopen this one to save the report space -- no need to have bunch of identical reports. As ehnacement as you suggested (but honestly I think it is defect). > But please not a simple "need check mark", but > detailed considerations (what's with OLE objects? Mark shown always if all > document is in same language? Disappear if 1 character is in other > language? ... It is pretty straightforward really. The checkmark is shown according to user choice. This value (language) applies to any element in the document _unless_ user changes some elements directly. And if she/he did -- the language "for all document" does not change -- it is value which is "default" for document. Example: type hello świat set "for all text" -> english -> check mark is shown select "świat" and choose "polish" for selected text still, "for all text" is english, because it is the main/default language for the document as a whole If you start typing "inside" "hello" "hello" AAA will be english but if you start typing inside "świat" "świBat" BBB will be polish, because local settings have precedence over global - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I would also like to point out how silly it is that in the pop-up box that has all the table-formatting buttons, both the line styles and border styles buttons have icons depicting both solid and dashed lines. Very frustrating to click these buttons with high hopes after each new version of OpenOffice only to be re-disappointed to find only strange combinations of lines with varying thickness. for years now I have had to resort to getting rid of the border where i need a dashed line and inserting a dashed line object. this is not particularly easy to anchor and get to the right dimensions as to not protrude from the table boundaries, etc. (add a row or column to your table and you have to redo all your dashed lines, and so on). this issue has occasionally made me question my unconditional support for openoffice for years now because it's such a minor issue that just continues to not be addressed, and I hope it gets fixed soon! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Remove attribute at all and replace b with nothing. Replace all -> replaced as expected. > In your tests you did not select any replacement formatting, > and so correct reaction for 'replace all' was no replacement. Nope. Because "replace all" replaces all (as the name tells). Replace -- replaces just found matched string. One replacement. Replace all -- replaces all found matched string. Max. replacaments (after this in the document that will be no matching string). And in a way OOO3 knows this. It shows the dialog "search key replaced X times" but in document there were no replacements made. "Replace all" does not work as "find all" and in this case it does -- this is a bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Currently there is completely a mess -- old versions, new versions, developer versions, everything mixed up. Please get rid of old, obsolete versions (1.x, 2.x), as well with introducing final product of all rc, betas, alphas. Also show normal version convention -- like numbering. ooo x.x ooo-dev x.x dev x.x x.x does not help because it is hard to find out the latest product. Where should you expect final version? At the end or at the beginning, right? But currently OOO3.0 is placed somewhere in the middle, after 1.x series, but before 3.0 milestones. To fix this problem either they should be thumbnailed on load or at least slightly before they are needed to be displayed. >From the original Ubuntu bug report: " Impress does not generate thumbnails for slides in the slide list until the slide is visible in the list. This causes long freezes while scrolling through the list, and makes it pretty pointless in the first place, because you can't just scroll down and click on the slide you want until you have already scrolled to it and waited for the thumbnail to be created. This is very, very basic functionality. Impress will never surpass PowerPoint as long as it has issues like this. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93226 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 28 15:46:46 + 2008 --- EN-US spellcheck works for me with "checker.odt", A Polish dict. is not installed on my PC, but I am pretty sure that that would also work. A first goal should be to get spellcheck working for "hello world" in "spell_checker.odt". I see that your use and test OOo very intensively. My suspect is that this is not a general spellchecker problem but something with your installation on your PC(s). Did you already try a really clean installation? You should uninstall all old OOo versions and also delete (or rename, so that OOo installer will not recognize those folders) your "profiles". For my WIN PC, that's and eliminate all other OOo from your PC, before you reinstall. I know, sue advice is dissatisfactory, but it's my own experience that too much version changes seem to cause such problems as you observe. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
