This is correct operation (obviously don't want French checked against and English dictionary), however as evidenced by numerous bug reports and forum queries, it continues to annoy users. What is missing is some feedback that some words, perhaps all of them have not been checked because there is no appropriate dictionary installed. Also, who knows what language an imported document appears to be. To the average user, the document is in English and they have an English dictionary installed, so they expect it to work in some fashion. For instance, as I am in New Zealand, it seems sensible to set the default language to English (New Zealand). However there is no specific NZ dictionary, so the best I can do is install the Australian or GB dictionaries. Spell check quite happily reports The spelling check is complete, with no errors reported. An error message read error appears while scrolling up or down and the whole application stalls for seconds. - When eps images are embeded, OO renders them quicker. The read error message does not appear. I still find it slow and it scrolling is not smooth. So, the main problem is when images are embeded. Since my hard disk is fast, the linux box not busy, and the images are directly rendered when I use gv, I consider that the slowliness comes from OO. Smoothness of the scrolling could also be improved (while scrolling, the image doesn't need to be rendered !). Test this in a current 3.0 version I won't do that now (I'm afraid of breaking things which somehow work... So please add to writer: * slide presentation mode * transition attributes for objects * auto-fit mode, so text would not leak to another page, but it will be shrinked instead The rest is importing templates. This way the user could work with tables, graphics, video, etc. without any worrying if this should be presentation or publication. What's more the change (publication-presentation) would be much easier because of the same exactly UI.
