The symptom is that blank text fields (i.e.: fields not filled out by the user on the form) are filled with the text immediately to the left of the field when exporting a PDF. Attached are: 1. The original word form in question 2. The PDF output in headless mode (the 'bad' output) 3. The PDF output in invisible mode (the 'good' output) 4. A test python script which can be used to reproduce the issue I have also tested with OOo 3.0, and the problem is unchanged (checksum identical PDF output regardless of OOo version). However, the test python code attached works with OOo 2.4.1 and requires slight modification to do the same thing with OOo 3.0 - thus, I am reporting this under 2.4.1, though the situation does not appear to have changed at all with newer versions. To summarize, when OOo is started as follows, the problem occurs: /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -accept="socket,host=localhost,port=3010;urp;" -headless And when OOo is started as follows (or the manual PDF button is simply used from the UI), the problem does not occur: /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -accept="socket,host=localhost,port=3010;urp;" -invisible In either case, the test script is installed in /usr/lib/openoffice/program, and the following command is used to run it against the OOo that is listening on port 3010 (cwd is /usr/lib/openoffice/program): /usr/bin/python ./word2pdf.py /path/to/formfields.doc 3010 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a difficult one to explain:
Symptom: 1) OO.org 3.0 crashes on attempting to Xray a style using StarBasic
2) OO.org cannot inspect using the "watch" utility in the Openoffice.org Basic
environment as it crashes as well.
it appears that programmatically accessing the style is not working.
More on the error follows:
Using the StyleFamily "graphics" exports the following interfaces:
com.sun.star.container.XElementAccess
com.sun.star.container.XIndexAccess
com.sun.star.container.XNameAccess
com.sun.star.container.XNameContainer
com.sun.star.container.XNamed
com.sun.star.container.XNameReplace
However, XNameReplace, XNameContainer methods which attempt to add, modify etc.
just DO NOT WORK.
One can access the Style using methods:
getByName
getByIndex
but the following methods are not found at runtime:
replaceByName( [in] string aName, [in] any aElement )
insertByName( [in] string aName, [in] any aElement )
Here is some sample code which should cause some headaches:
oDoc = thisComponent ' open a draw document and run this as a sub
oStyleFamilies = oDoc.styleFamilies
oShapeStyles = oStyleFamilies.getByName("graphics")
oStyle = oShapeStyles.getByIndex(0) '<- larger is fine if you have it
' Xray OStyle '<-- will definitely crash.
'oStyle = oShapeStyles.getByName("cg") '<- use the API to make style cg
' put a stop on the code 2 lines up and watch oStyle. Inspect it... it crashes
' the following code does not work as per section 9.6.1 in Developers Guide
says it should and it has apparently worked in the past:
oStyle = oDoc.createInstance( "com.sun.star.style.Style" ) '<- does not work
Document factor does not have a registered service or something like this.
I don't know if this is related but basically it's not working the way it is
supposed to as far as I can see and there appears to be no way of accessing,
modifying or removing the graphics styles in a Draw Document.

First of all, I'd like to thank mba for his update and his reassurance that the programming team is aware that an Outline View is important. Thanks also for explaining to us that the reason it has not been done is because it is not a simple process, so it will take some time. I think part of the problem is that we have a clash of two cultures: programmers and writers are usually quite different personality types with different sets of computer expertise - coders vs. simple users. I would like to point out to mba regarding his somewhat brusque response that "You can all save your breath" (typical programmer's social skills!) that people had been complaining for YEARS before they heard about from anyone about the issues involved. They were not aware that anyone was paying attention to them so they were frustrated. Thanks again, mba, for letting us know you are aware of the problem and are working on it. I would also like to point out that, in general, open software is mostly a "geek" thing. I say that with all respect being an old geek myself. So while XML etc. might seem more important than an Outline View for the most vocal users and programmers, there is probably a much larger user base for an Outline View than for XML. Also personally I feel "XML rules!" The problem is that for the average, not particularly technically savvy, user (i.e. almost everyone who needs an Outline view!) they are not the type of person who is going to try to track down this thread and post something. They are certainly not going to try to figure out how to vote, and they probably don't bother to read all the previous comments before they post. They are used to a different type of customer support experience. Can anyone say "Care Bear?" So just because you don't hear from them, doesn't mean they didn't try it and gave up without even posting. On the other hand an XML user is going to be more likely to function in a programmer-friendly fashion. My point is that the end- users and the target market who want an Outline View, if Open Office is ever going to become a widely-used tool, are almost certainly massively underrepresented here because they didn't even know it existed. In any case, we are happy to hear you are working on this solution and we look forward to hearing more about it. Unfortunately, we won't be able to tell our fellow users to "save their breath" because they don't read before they post. Thanks again and best wishes for bug-free code! So, for timeframe concerns, it is always possible to change this on the fly for 3.1 if time is tight. Of course it is much better to fix the single issues; this is the path to get rid of the need to support all that decorations in the future in neither VCL nor other renderers which will come along. So this issues should be fixed. HDU did the original decomposition code for this, so he would evtl. be faster with it. The feature that everybody wants is to make galleries deployable as extensions. That is of course already planned, see issue 70412. I think this tool is not necessary when have this feature and i don't see a reason to include it in the SDK. I suggest to leave in the base layer until issue 70412 is fixed.
