[xml-issues] [Issue 38719] Want CVS-friendly file-for mat
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=38719 --- Additional comments from alvarezp2...@openoffice.org Fri Mar 20 06:48:34 + 2009 --- Though the use of a plain XML is worth trying, it really doesn't solve it. I'm currently using .fodt files and it kinda works, except that useless information is getting to the .fodt and disrupts the purpose of RCS. I'll try giving some examples taken from a blank document like this: creating a new Writer document and saving it as a .fodt file, loading it again without "Load user settings" and "Load printer settings", resaving and filtering it through "tidy -utf8 -q -xml -i -w 0" for easier analysis. Compatibility-related options are included by default when they should not: "Options > Writer > Compatibility > Consider wrapping style when positioning Objects" is being included in the document as "ConfigTextWrapOnObjPos". It is a compatibility-only option that should really not appear in the file unless it is explicitly set to true or false. Why? Because if the file is loaded in an old-enough version of OOo, the option will not be understood at all by the old Writer, and if it is loaded into a future version of OOo, it should detect the OOo version from the Generator label and --only then-- set the option. This applies for other compatibility-related options as well. CurrentDatabaseDataSource: it is a useless empty-string value set at creation time and included in the file. AllowPrintJobCancel: I don't know for sure what this does, I must confess, but sounds like a setting that should be in the user settings in the PC instead of the document. The reason is that this is printer-dependant, not document- dependant. initial-creator: isn't this some info that only certain users will be interested in, and besides, by default it should NOT include any personal information in the document, unless explicitly requested? Also, this breaks RCS in the sense that this information should be stored in the RCS. Now, for the following format settings, there might be a good reason, I just fail to see how it is useful to include thwm before even being used/applied. style:font-face-style, maybe used by the subsequent default outline styles? Or is it the alias setting for fonts? text:outline-level-style: why is it that all levels, though unused, are included by default in the absolutely empty file? Now, for most of the above, I can just filter them out automatically by some RCS (like Git). However, what really breaks RCS in general is the following: I imported a Word document and saved it as .fodt. Filtered it through tidy and saved it as "version a". I loaded the .fodt and saved it again without any change, not even View or else. I saved the file again and filtered it through tidy to save it as "version b". A diff between both versions shows the following: 1. All xml:id where rewritten. 2. For some reason, it inclued a soft-page-break before some paragraphs. 3. It rewrote some style:names. 4. The new save included some PrinterSetup info that the fist .fodt export didn't. I repeated the fodt file load-and-saving procedure. Still, I found some differences (besides the ViewArea/Visible settings): 1. style:paragraph-properties was changed in a paragraph from style:writing- mode="page" to style:writing-mode="lr-tb". 2. More style:style style:name="P8" renaming. This last part, rather than describing an RFE, describes a bug that needs fixing. I started the CV in version 2.4. When the updates to 3.0 and 3.0.1 came out, I updated to those. After the updates I continued to work on the CV. When I printed it out to have someone proofread it, we discovered the bullets were missing from the beginnings of the lines, making it very difficult to read. I created a new file of three lines and selected Format -> Bullets and Numbering ... to add bullets. I noticed that only the top left box in the window had any bullets visible (though clicking on the other boxes would show names of bullets). I clicked on the top left box and had bullets inserted on screen. I clicked on PDF export and looked at the PDF file. It had no bullets. Fortunately, I had a tarball of version 2.4, so I uninstalled 3.0.1 and installed 2.4. It worked on both my CV file and the new test file. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Having imported it into OpenOffice.org Impress on numerous occasions, specifically to see if OpenOffice.org could handle it, all the gradients are rendered as gradients into white rather than transparency. I have since discovered that Impress does, in fact, have the facility to create gradients into transparency, but they are considered different from any other gradient for some reason beyond my understanding. The bug, therefore, is that gradients to transparency in PowerPoint presentations are not correctly imported to use OpenOffice's way of having gradients into transparency. I am not sure if the reverse is true (gradients into transparency in OpenOffice are not exported as such in PowerPoint presentations). Please read again : These flyers are not representative of the Education Project objectives, nor of the current actions in progress, and as Lead of this project, I'm opposed to see them attached to our website, without important modifications. I'm sorry, but looking carefully on the flyers, I see NOTHING about the Education Project : no link, even not a word about it. *You know*, the one everybody can find at http://education.openoffice.org I see nothing either about the current effort to find developers :-/ Please note the links below : The Education Project Effort : http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_Project/Effort (will add 11 new projects for Seneca College students in the next week ) ... or our main wiki page : http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_Project ... or even the ClassRoom : http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_ClassRoom Please explain me why nothing about all of that ?? My personnal opinion about the content now : As professor, I don't need soap, and I won't read such flyer more than one quick instant. Of course, see them translated is really great, and I'm glad to see contributors did that, but the content will not be attractive for professors. [ui-issues] [Issue 35482] high contrast can't be put off despite configuration setting
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=35482 --- Additional comments from psquare...@openoffice.org Thu Mar 19 19:36:01 + 2009 --- I believe the status in the screenshot _IS_ an error. According to the ui spec ( http://ui.openoffice.org/specification/options_accessibility.html ): 7) Automatically detect high contrast mode of operating system This option will be used by the function GetHighContrastMode (responsible developer is Philipp Lohmann). If this option is active (default is on) the internal function GetHighContrastMode determines a high contrast mode not only by analyzing a maybe existing flag of the operating system. Then the function will also determine if the window background is dark by using the IsDark function and return true regardless if a high contrast flag is set or not. Instead of asking for this single flag at the SvtAccessibilityOptions the applications should use the above method Application::GetSettings().GetStyleSettings().GetHighContrastMode(). The way I read this is that the system should only attempt to determine whether the theme is a high contrast theme if this box is checked. If this box is unchecked, then OOo should not do any kind of theme checking and simply use whatever the user-configured theme is. Dark themes are becoming much more popular, especially with their default inclusion in many popular distros. Accessibility mode can make OOo virtually _unusable_ for more advanced tasks, and there is NO way* to turn it off if you're using a dark theme! This makes this a _serious_ usability bug IMHO. *If there is, I haven't found it. Such a setting I would then consider FAR too cryptic and generally a defect in usability. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Open the attached document (macros must be enabled) 1. Make sure that checkbox Tools/Options.../OpenOffice.org Write/View/Notes is checked (Note: The bug is independent of this setting, but the inconsistency between the new Annotation code and the old API is more apparent this way) 2. You'll see a colored line pointing to a „post-it“ note to the right, reading „Dies ist eine Notiz“. 3. Open the Navigator (Edit/Navigator or F5) and expand „Notes“. You'll see the same text „Dies ist eine Notiz“ 4. Press the button in the document. A macro will launch that shows 2 message boxes with the text of the Content property of the annotation textfield, first before and then after changing said property. 5. Confirm the 2 message boxes 6. Compare the „post-it“ note's text and the Navigator's. The Navigator correctly reflects the API's POV (which is also what the second message box prints out). However the post-it note is what is stored when you save the file. 7. Save the file and reopen it. The change to the note has been lost. This means that any program or extension changing the contents of annotations, will experience data loss. This is a very serious issue. Our custom form system depends on annotations. All of the user's entered data is stored in an annotation and will be lost when the user saves the document. I can reproduce the issue under Linux and Windows 2000. Classifying as P2 according to http://www.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify#priority because its a regression and causes data loss in an easy-to-encounter way (at least for the several 1000 users in our organization that use our custom form system that stores its data in annotations) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=99662 User aw changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|NEW |STARTED --- Additional comments from a...@openoffice.org Thu Mar 19 16:47:02 + 2009 --- AW: After discussing with IHA and showing what AA normally does, we identified two reasons for bad looking: (1) The grid lines are not regularly AAed since they are displayed on different positions on the discrete raster (2) The deactivated OLE chart looks slightly different since the MetaFile containing the 3D bitmap is visluslized slighly zoomed. For (1): Added support for the SnapHorVerGridLines configuration flag (same as for 2D) to snap hor/ver grid lines to centered raster positions. Really snapping them to single pixel lines did not look to good and showed problems with those lines vanishing sometimes (no surprise; those lines are now forced to smaller polygons, especially compared with the extended, AAed areas). Best looking solution is to snap those lines in 3D to center of grid to force them to be regularly AAed (same as our competitot does). This is also an acceptable enhancement for all other 3D. For (2): IHA was investigating one day to again look for the precision error involved in usage of many system layers (chart, framework, etc...) which leads to different display sizes bewteen activated and non-activated charts. Too complex, had to stop now. I investigated this issue on visualisation side and added code to primitive renderers to ignore single pixel errors (which result from lacking precision from layers described above). This works well and leads to unscaled MetaFile visualisation. All in all these two changes enhance 3D visualisation greatly for charts and should be considered a candidate for 3.1. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100331 User hdu changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|NEW |STARTED --- Additional comments from h...@openoffice.org Thu Mar 19 16:21:13 + 2009 --- "symbol aliasing" from U+00xx->U+F0xx is not implemented yet on Mac. This "feature" from pre- unicode (8bit single-byte encoding) times is usually not considered to be a good idea. A symbol has a specified codepoint and the right thing to do is to use exactly that codepoint if one wants that symbol. Relying on the legacy mapping from the 8bit-masked codepoint into the PUA should not be encouraged. So the remaining issues here are the WYSIWIG aspect and the cross-platform document compatibility aspect. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 100360] Shape fill from specific PNG gives wrong bitmap size
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100360 User aw changed the following: What|Old value |New value CC|''|'pl' Status|NEW |STARTED --- Additional comments from a...@openoffice.org Thu Mar 19 15:16:44 + 2009 --- AW: Investigated, very interesting. The imported bitmap has a PrefMapMode of MAP_PIXEL and a PrefSize of (113, 23), this is the same in 3.0 and 3.1. The difference happens when this is changed to logical sizes. In 3.0, this chage is done (starting from old DoPaintObject) in ImpCalcBmpFillSizes using: if( MAP_PIXEL == aBmpPrefMapMode.GetMapUnit() ) rBmpOutputSize = Application::GetDefaultDevice()->PixelToLogic( aBmpPrefSize, rOutputMapMode ); else rBmpOutputSize = OutputDevice::LogicToLogic( aBmpPrefSize, aBmpPrefMapMode, rOutputMapMode ); while the primitive version adapts the pixel to logic size much earlier using: aBitmap.SetPrefSize(Application::GetDefaultDevice()->LogicToLogic( aBitmap.GetPrefSize(), aBitmap.GetPrefMapMode(), aDestinationMapUnit)); The very intersting thing is the exception in the old version for bitmaps: it leads to another result: PixelToLogic(Size(113, 23), MAP_100TH_MM) -> (3986, 811) LogicToLogic(Size(113, 23), MAP_PIXEL, 100TH_MM) -> (2990, 609) where both versions use Application::GetDefaultDevice() for the PixelToLogic call. I would have expected the same results for both calls ?!? AW->PL: Any hints why both calls give different results ...??? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
