Though the use of a plain XML is worth trying, it really doesn't solve it. I'm
currently using .fodt files and it kinda works, except that useless information
is getting to the .fodt and disrupts the purpose of RCS.

I'll try giving some examples taken from a blank document like this: creating a
new Writer document and saving it as a .fodt file, loading it again without
"Load user settings" and "Load printer settings", resaving and filtering it
through "tidy -utf8 -q -xml -i -w 0" for easier analysis.

Compatibility-related options are included by default when they should not:
"Options > Writer > Compatibility > Consider wrapping style when positioning
Objects" is being included in the document as "ConfigTextWrapOnObjPos". It is a
compatibility-only option that should really not appear in the file unless it
is explicitly set to true or false. Why? Because if the file is loaded in an
old-enough version of OOo, the option will not be understood at all by the old
Writer, and if it is loaded into a future version of OOo, it should detect the
OOo version from the Generator label and --only then-- set the option. This
applies for other compatibility-related options as well.

CurrentDatabaseDataSource: it is a useless empty-string value set at creation
time and included in the file.

AllowPrintJobCancel: I don't know for sure what this does, I must confess, but
sounds like a setting that should be in the user settings in the PC instead of
the document. The reason is that this is printer-dependant, not document-
dependant.

initial-creator: isn't this some info that only certain users will be
interested in, and besides, by default it should NOT include any personal
information in the document, unless explicitly requested? Also, this breaks RCS
in the sense that this information should be stored in the RCS.

Now, for the following format settings, there might be a good reason, I just
fail to see how it is useful to include thwm before even being used/applied.

style:font-face-style, maybe used by the subsequent default outline styles? Or
is it the alias setting for fonts?

text:outline-level-style: why is it that all levels, though unused, are
included by default in the absolutely empty file?

Now, for most of the above, I can just filter them out automatically by some
RCS (like Git). However, what really breaks RCS in general is the following:

I imported a Word document and saved it as .fodt. Filtered it through tidy and
saved it as "version a". I loaded the .fodt and saved it again without any
change, not even View or else. I saved the file again and filtered it through
tidy to save it as "version b". A diff between both versions shows the
following:

1. All xml:id where rewritten.
2. For some reason, it inclued a soft-page-break before some paragraphs.
3. It rewrote some style:names.
4. The new save included some PrinterSetup info that the fist .fodt export
didn't.

I repeated the fodt file load-and-saving procedure. Still, I found some
differences (besides the ViewArea/Visible settings):

1. style:paragraph-properties was changed in a paragraph from style:writing-
mode="page" to style:writing-mode="lr-tb".
2. More style:style style:name="P8" renaming.

This last part, rather than describing an RFE, describes a bug that needs
fixing.

Thank you for your attention to this long comment.

Rendering is very bad while interface is Punjabi with Shortcut keys are in
en_US.

I tested latest build available:

OOo_3.1.0_090311_Win32Intel_install_pa-IN

Attaching Screenshots for detail.

Shortcut key are within (), so you can easily get those, while Other characters
are in Punjabi.

Write "something" to empty cell. Click Input line, choose all with Conrol-A,
click hyperlink. Add a target, apply, close.
After that click Input line again, press space and type "Text". That text goes
middle of the "something". Cell now shows "somextething T". Input line still
shows "something Text", but it changes. See picture calc1. Problem seems to
occur especially when using slash-mark or capital letter, but it can also appear
without them.

Sometimes text goes where it should go, but cell is no more hyperlink and
pressing backspace will cause disappearing of first letters instead of last
ones, as if cursor would be in the middle of "something".
"

Verified on official 3.0.1

I have been working on a curriculum vitae (CV) to apply for a professor position
at a small college. I started the CV in version 2.4. When the updates to 3.0 and
3.0.1 came out, I updated to those. After the updates I continued to work on the
CV. When I printed it out to have someone proofread it, we discovered the
bullets were missing from the beginnings of the lines, making it very difficult
to read.

I created a new file of three lines and selected Format -> Bullets and Numbering
... to add bullets. I noticed that only the top left box in the window had any
bullets visible (though clicking on the other boxes would show names of
bullets). I clicked on the top left box and had bullets inserted on screen. I
clicked on PDF export and looked at the PDF file. It had no bullets.

Fortunately, I had a tarball of version 2.4, so I uninstalled 3.0.1 and
installed 2.4. It worked on both my CV file and the new test file.

Am a new user of Open Office - this point makes a comparison to functionality
available on Powerpoint.

The Handout Layout left aligns 3 slides on a page, and shows ruled lines to the
right of each slide. This is convenient for delegates to write on when printed
out. Open Office Impress 2.4 doesn't give any such options. Please advise if you
have this feature planned for a future release.

looks like this bug is an issue with the installation scripts not creating the

was not setup to do so, but I can't remember where it was at this time. This is
not Ubuntu specific.

This appears to be due to using system saxon. The patches to saxon should be
sent to their official developer and configure modified until then to make it
very obvious that people should not use system saxon, like how is currently done

Pressing the tab key in "overwrite" mode, deletes the char after point, and
indents. While this is logical and correct, it may not be what the user expects.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Write some text ("abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz").
2. Move the cursor to the beginning.
3. Press to activate overwrite mode, if not already enabled. press tab.

Actual behaviour:
The first letter (in this case the letter 'a') is replaced with the tabulator.

Expected behavor:
Not sure, one of the following I guess:

1. Insert a tab, like insert mode.
2. Skip to next tab stop without changing anything.
3. Skip to next tab stop, deleting all text between cursor position and next tab
stop.
"

Gnome gedit does 1. "Insert a tab, like insert mode"

I've started OPEN OFFICE in our IT department, and got a spreadsheet going with
an "Issues" list. So far, I have found either work arounds, or answers to most
of the questions that have been posted to me, but I'm needing a little help on
this one.

In Calc, say you have 10 rows of data, and you select row 2 and 4, then hit
"Ctrl+C" to copy this information to another sheet. You'll get an error:
Code:

This function cannot be used with multiple selections.

When I copy to clipboard a column or row of data from OO Calc and paste it in a
column or row of a table in OO Writer the data aren't pasted properly each one
in each cell, but they are pasted as an object in the last cell. This is a great
problem because qhen i qant to put the data in Writer i have to copy/paste them
one by one.
"

Note that it works in this manner in Microsoft Office so it would be nice to
have similar behavior.

The following powerpoint file has problems rendering properly in slideshow mode.
Slide 2 looks fine in edit mode but if you view the slide in slide show mode the
rendering problems become immediately obvious. There may be other issues in the
file as well but I noticed those issues immediately.

This is a desirable feature for our application of Writer documents. Due to the
changing nature of our work (commercial appraisal), using a duplicate of one
text table cell to another, similar to Calc, is much more suitable than using
fields.

>From Ubuntu bug report:

"
I have a PowerPoint presentation that includes lots of gradients into
transparency. Having imported it into OpenOffice.org Impress on numerous
occasions, specifically to see if OpenOffice.org could handle it, all the
gradients are rendered as gradients into white rather than transparency.

I have since discovered that Impress does, in fact, have the facility to create
gradients into transparency, but they are considered different from any other
gradient for some reason beyond my understanding.

The bug, therefore, is that gradients to transparency in PowerPoint
presentations are not correctly imported to use OpenOffice's way of having
gradients into transparency. I am not sure if the reverse is true (gradients
into transparency in OpenOffice are not exported as such in PowerPoint
presentations).

This is a MS Word document provided by the Belgian government which one needs to
fill in when one wants to start their own company.

The layout is very strict because this document is published publicly.

OpenOffice.org doesn't parse this MS Word document properly.

There should be support to use libenchant in OOo on free desktops (eg Gnome/KDE)
for better integration with the system dictionaries and to have shared word
support.

http://www.abisource.com/projects/enchant/

Marked Unix/X11 as this affects more than just Linux.

I have run export to pdf some times and mostly 2.4.0 was very fast (few seconds)
but once for 4 or 5 export took really long (1:5-2 minutes) I have no idea why.

to fheckl.
Understood. So that is why I put my last comments just in this 100214 topic,
which is Windows related. My previous comments were made to 90219 just because
the symptoms described there are exactly the same on windows platforms, so I
suspected a relationship in some piece of code.
So feel free to forget my reference to 90219 in my previous post.
Anyway my comments about predefined macro
"openoffice.org.Tools.ModuleControls".getFileName that DOES NOT work on Vista/
oo301 and about documentation to clarify are still relevant.
I think that the present topic is a good place to deal with that. If it is not,
I will open a specific bug report.

This flyers hav issues in the sense that there is no source to this files. Or
they are provided using proprietary software.

I was originally interested about this project but then I found out the flyers
were created in InDesign making it impossible for people like me who only use
Linux to colaborate.

So I would propose a ban on these flyers from either using them or promoting
them.

@louis :

The answer is NO : these flyers have nothing to do on the Education Project
website.

Please read again :

These flyers are not representative of the Education Project objectives, nor of
the current actions in
progress, and as Lead of this project, I'm opposed to see them attached to our
website, without
important modifications.

I'm sorry, but looking carefully on the flyers, I see NOTHING about the
Education Project : no link, even
not a word about it. *You know*, the one everybody can find at
http://education.openoffice.org

I see nothing either about the current effort to find developers :-/

Please note the links below :

 The Education Project Effort :
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_Project/Effort (will
add 11 new projects for Seneca College students in the next week )
... or our main wiki page :
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_Project
... or even the ClassRoom :
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Education_ClassRoom

Please explain me why nothing about all of that ??

My personnal opinion about the content now : As professor, I don't need soap,
and I won't read such
flyer more than one quick instant.

Of course, see them translated is really great, and I'm glad to see
contributors did that, but the content
will not be attractive for professors.

Now if you are interested to work together, please propose and invite Education
Project members to
contribute and modify the flyer to make them really attractive for Educational
people

Thanks in advance

I'd be interested to have a look at your png-size reduction tool. I sent a
fairly detailed reply to Michael Bohn, following his inquiry about scripting and
available software, but didn't get a response. I'm always happy to help and
collaborate in anyway that may be useful.

Best wishes

@pierre13fr
Hopefully I can make this clear now once and for all:
Issue 90219 was there because opening the MacOSX native file picker from an OOo
Basic macro did not
work and also did not throw an error. This behavior was improved with issue
90219 by throwing an error
when calling execute on a non-initialized Aqua file picker. Issue 90219 did NOT
introduce the failure of
the file picker not opening when called from a macro. That was there before
already.

[ui-issues] [Issue 35482] high contrast can't be put off despite configuration setting

I believe the status in the screenshot _IS_ an error. According to the ui spec
( http://ui.openoffice.org/specification/options_accessibility.html ):

7) Automatically detect high contrast mode of operating system

This option will be used by the function GetHighContrastMode (responsible
developer is Philipp Lohmann). If this option is active (default is on) the
internal function GetHighContrastMode determines a high contrast mode not only
by analyzing a maybe existing flag of the operating system. Then the function
will also determine if the window background is dark by using the IsDark
function and return true regardless if a high contrast flag is set or not.

Instead of asking for this single flag at the SvtAccessibilityOptions the
applications should use the above method
Application::GetSettings().GetStyleSettings().GetHighContrastMode().

The way I read this is that the system should only attempt to determine whether
the theme is a high contrast theme if this box is checked. If this box is
unchecked, then OOo should not do any kind of theme checking and simply use
whatever the user-configured theme is.

Dark themes are becoming much more popular, especially with their default
inclusion in many popular distros. Accessibility mode can make OOo virtually
_unusable_ for more advanced tasks, and there is NO way* to turn it off if
you're using a dark theme! This makes this a _serious_ usability bug IMHO.

*If there is, I haven't found it. Such a setting I would then consider FAR too
cryptic and generally a defect in usability.

bei->b_michaelsen: intrestingly during the performance tests it happens quite
often that the improvement dialog is being shown but it does not happen always.
Sometimes the subtests can start the office normally without the dialog being
shown. And in no case the firststartwizard is being shown it is only the
improvement-dialog which blocks the office. In any case "ps -ef | fgrep soffice"
shows that the office was started with a -nofirststartwizard option. We will
have to have a look into wether it might be the case that the java program
starting the performance tests errornously uses "-nofirststartwizard " (note the
trailing space) instead of "-nofirststartwizard" in some cases or something
similar. Lowering Priority to P2.

In an x-y plot, points only, a vertical or horizontal division line, entered as
a series, shows well in a chart with normal scales. When changing the scales to
logarithmic, those lines become invisible. I think it is a bug, but could be
overlooking something. Found nothing in the issues list. I do have a screen shot
that shows the problem; should you need the spreadsheet with data, I can provide
that also.

Steps to reproduce:

0. Open the attached document (macros must be enabled)

1. Make sure that checkbox Tools/Options.../OpenOffice.org Write/View/Notes is
checked
(Note: The bug is independent of this setting, but the inconsistency between the
new Annotation code and the old API is more apparent this way)

2. You'll see a colored line pointing to a „post-it“ note to the right, reading
„Dies ist eine Notiz“.

3. Open the Navigator (Edit/Navigator or F5) and expand „Notes“. You'll see the
same text „Dies ist eine Notiz“

4. Press the button in the document. A macro will launch that shows 2 message
boxes with the text of the Content property of the annotation textfield, first
before and then after changing said property.

5. Confirm the 2 message boxes

6. Compare the „post-it“ note's text and the Navigator's. The Navigator
correctly reflects the API's POV (which is also what the second message box
prints out). However the post-it note is what is stored when you save the file.

7. Save the file and reopen it. The change to the note has been lost.

This means that any program or extension changing the contents of annotations,
will experience data loss. This is a very serious issue. Our custom form system
depends on annotations. All of the user's entered data is stored in an
annotation and will be lost when the user saves the document.

I can reproduce the issue under Linux and Windows 2000.

Classifying as P2 according to
http://www.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify#priority
because its a regression and causes data loss in an easy-to-encounter way (at
least for the several 1000 users in our organization that use our custom form
system that stores its data in annotations)

I open the file

I select view, master, slide master from the menu

I select the second row (Second outline level)

I select format , bullets and numbering from the menu

I select level 2 from the customize tab

I change the character to U+25CF

I click on OK and OK

The bullet has not changed

Click to edit the outline text format is now indented a lot

This has been (and related problems in writer) has been driving me crazy - I
really like OO, but this problem makes it very hard to use.

Thanks . . .

Phil

Load the attached document on a windows system. You can see that the font of
several texts look broken: 'Fruits, Apple, Banana, Ananas, a text shape in a
Writer OLE'.
All those are text shapes within an OLE object. For the OLE objects meta files
are created on save and displayed on load. The file was create on Linux with
OOO310m6. Same problem exists also if the file is created on Solaris.
Activating the OLE object and refreshing the metafile creates a correct display
on windows.
So there seems to be missing some information within the meta file when they are
saved on unix.

AW: After discussing with IHA and showing what AA normally does, we identified
two reasons for bad looking:

(1) The grid lines are not regularly AAed since they are displayed on different
positions on the discrete raster

(2) The deactivated OLE chart looks slightly different since the MetaFile
containing the 3D bitmap is visluslized slighly zoomed.

For (1): Added support for the SnapHorVerGridLines configuration flag (same as
for 2D) to snap hor/ver grid lines to centered raster positions. Really snapping
them to single pixel lines did not look to good and showed problems with those
lines vanishing sometimes (no surprise; those lines are now forced to smaller
polygons, especially compared with the extended, AAed areas). Best looking
solution is to snap those lines in 3D to center of grid to force them to be
regularly AAed (same as our competitot does). This is also an acceptable
enhancement for all other 3D.

For (2): IHA was investigating one day to again look for the precision error
involved in usage of many system layers (chart, framework, etc...) which leads
to different display sizes bewteen activated and non-activated charts. Too
complex, had to stop now. I investigated this issue on visualisation side and
added code to primitive renderers to ignore single pixel errors (which result
from lacking precision from layers described above). This works well and leads
to unscaled MetaFile visualisation.

All in all these two changes enhance 3D visualisation greatly for charts and
should be considered a candidate for 3.1. Checking in at aw066 and building
install-sets.

"symbol aliasing" from U+00xx->U+F0xx is not implemented yet on Mac. This
"feature" from pre-
unicode (8bit single-byte encoding) times is usually not considered to be a
good idea. A symbol has a
specified codepoint and the right thing to do is to use exactly that codepoint
if one wants that symbol.
Relying on the legacy mapping from the 8bit-masked codepoint into the PUA
should not be encouraged.

So the remaining issues here are the WYSIWIG aspect and the cross-platform
document compatibility
aspect.

Started to convert the Impress printing to the new printing model. The main
part of printing is now done in sd/source/ui/view/DocumentRenderer.cxx. Warning
and option dialogs regarding transparency, different sizes of slides and printer
pages, page orientation are not yet active. Landscape orientation is not yet
working. Old printing interface in the view shell is still there (but with
empty implementation.)

Revision of this change is 269755.

AW: So, the missing info was that LogicToLogic is by default not working with
MAP_PIXEL, so Application::GetDefaultDevice()->PixelToLogic has to be used in
that cases. This indirectly includes the DPIs of the systems' screen.

@PL: Wouldnt't it make sense to add that exception to the ::LogicToLogic
implementations internally, so that not everyone will do it wrong...?

Tesing adapted change now...

Because Application::GetDefaultDevice is a different OutputDevice and therefore
has potentially different resolution than the other ? Would depend of course on
what the other OutputDevice in question actually is, a Window would have the
same resolution.

@sj: yeah, good catch, poked cell height too late; the actual root cause is the
minimal font height enforced during layout. Much simpler patch attached.

AW: Investigated, very interesting. The imported bitmap has a PrefMapMode of
MAP_PIXEL and a PrefSize of (113, 23), this is the same in 3.0 and 3.1. The
difference happens when this is changed to logical sizes. In 3.0, this chage is
done (starting from old DoPaintObject) in ImpCalcBmpFillSizes using:

if( MAP_PIXEL == aBmpPrefMapMode.GetMapUnit() )
rBmpOutputSize = Application::GetDefaultDevice()->PixelToLogic(
aBmpPrefSize,
rOutputMapMode );
else
rBmpOutputSize = OutputDevice::LogicToLogic( aBmpPrefSize,
aBmpPrefMapMode,
rOutputMapMode );

while the primitive version adapts the pixel to logic size much earlier using:

aBitmap.SetPrefSize(Application::GetDefaultDevice()->LogicToLogic(
aBitmap.GetPrefSize(),
aBitmap.GetPrefMapMode(), aDestinationMapUnit));

The very intersting thing is the exception in the old version for bitmaps: it
leads to another result:

PixelToLogic(Size(113, 23), MAP_100TH_MM) -> (3986, 811)
LogicToLogic(Size(113, 23), MAP_PIXEL, 100TH_MM) -> (2990, 609)

where both versions use Application::GetDefaultDevice() for the PixelToLogic
call. I would have expected the same results for both calls ?!?

AW->PL: Any hints why both calls give different results ...???
