This is an important privacy support feature. Using it in the way as you suggested will make the code more complicated and - in the long run - error prone. As a bug in this function can have very unfortunate consequences for the users I really don't want to change it. But we can add a listbox to the dialog allowing to select between several profiles (identified by the author property). To illustrate what I mean I created a video that you can download here: http://www.informatik.uni-freiburg.de/~schmidma/openoffice-bug.avi The issue is (and this happens both on Ubuntu 8.10 and Windows Vista, Openoffice 3.1) the following: When I had my focus on a frame, then want to move to a different part of the document using mouse wheel, the view jumps back to the frame after one page scrolling. Then its fine and I can navigate however I want. If I wait for a second, it does not jump back. I noticed that the tool boxes have to change (from frame editing to normal editing) and this seems to create the delay. And when the toolbox change finished it just grabs control and goes back. I want to add here that there are variations of this, leading to confusion and feeling that openoffice is very sloppy. I feel this is a major annoyance. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Currently Impress allows only to go to a specific slide by page number (right-click). It is usually not convenient since we don't know the slide number. A very nice feature is present in the presentation program Impressive http://impressive.sourceforge.net/ and is called Overview screen. The idea is to hit the Tab key and have a presentation of all the slides on 1 screen (as in the OOo sorter view). You can thus quickly select a specific slide by clicking it. I think that such a feature could greatly enhance Impress. Thanks a lot for your work on this nice program. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Looking at the docs and function tips I don't see any error in function usage, thus it looks like a bug in CELL(). I was using 2.4 in Linux, thought it's a bug fixed in 3.x then checked latest 3.1 in XP but with same results. thx - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 102376] OpenOffice crashes on Doc ument Save
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=102376 --- Additional comments from kenpar...@openoffice.org Sat May 30 14:03:35 + 2009 --- I thought I was fairly clear that the document is crashing when I save it (I did not say 'damaged document causes problems') but here you go: Step by step instructions. 1. Make any change inside the document Expected: the change to happen Result: the change happens 2. Either hit Cmd-S to save or left click the Save icon in the toolbar or left click on File and go to Save Expected: the document to save Result: OpenOffice crashes sometimes, prompting me to recover my documents. Why do I believe the result is unexpected? Should I *expect* OpenOffice to crash when saving a file? I'm starting to wonder these days. More information concerning the document? It's a 64 page workbook document utilizing many pictures in png, tiff, and jpeg format that makes heavy use of paragraph and heading styles. I'm clicking save from a standard toolbar and standard File menu and the standard command of Cmd+S. The file is on a Macintosh, and I'm saving the file to a network drive running Windows Server. The problem also exists when saving from OpenOffice on Vista. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When trying to open them with OpenOffice again, to check if everything ok, all content was missing. After several tests I realized, that only tables in the document (and their content) are lost, and after some other time, that saving back into odt-format brings back the content. So I created a minimal document and discovered the problem: all tables with negative left positioning values (context menu -- Table... -- spacing left) are invisible in doc-format. This problem exists at minimum since OOO310m11 and also exists in OOo 3.1. This behavior also happens with the menu entry Extras - Language - Paragraph - More It is necessary to use this specific menu item, since not all installed dictionary languages are displayed in the Extras - Language - Selection - list. This behavior nearly drove me crazy, because I could not find the intended language setting option on the initially displayd dialog tab. When I understood the priority definitions right, this bug is P2 because it involves a misbehavior of a frequently used menu item. (I don't know any other way to change the language of some words.) Furthermore it can probably be easily fixed, just call the correct dialog box tab whith this menu entry. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Well, terms used in function wizard and help are the same (Riferimento = Reference), rather confusiong IMHO. Re-checking, eventually maybe I got it right: (in a cell) =INDIRECT(ADDRESS(...)) is equivalent to =CELL(contents; INDIRECT(ADDRESS(...))) the point is, that help/wizard say that INDIRECT() returns the *contents* of the cell, whereas it actually returns the *reference* to the cell. So the bug seems to be poor/bad wording in docs - to my understanding, of course. I suggest to make it clearer in the f.wizard, with labels like Reference: and Reference (as text): in due cases. thx (test .odf seems unneeded at this point, though I'm attaching it anyway) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Some people will want collate on as the default... just for convenience. Many people have asked for it, and unfortunately it was given to them in OO 3.0 without any real regard to the consequences. Many people will have severe problems with the default being on, and our business is one of them (as I explained in a previous comment, above). There might be some type of different options under other OS's (MSWin/MacOS), but under Linux it is very problematic using the collate function on. The suggestion about storing the collate setting per printer is probably not practical, since there is no user interface in OO that addresses saved options on a per-printer basis (unless they want to resurrect the spadmin tool, which is now pretty much dead). Storing such a setting in a document doesn't really make any sense. So the only best remaining way to handle the problem is to make an option in tools-printing that can hold a user's preference for collation: 1) Remember previously used state (begin with setting off) 2) Always default to off 3) Always default to on 4) Always remain off (and don't show option in print dialog) With the default setting for new installations set to #1 (since that is most logical). The above change would solve the problem for most people once and for all. Although there should also be a way that a system administrator can set the default for new users, to make the problem absolutely solvable on systems where printers do their own collation all the time (which is most modern laser printers and copiers). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The edit format _does_ follow the locale setting, it just does not follow a modified LC_TIME or Windows' Regional Setting's date mask, for example. This sounds like a bug in and of itself -- for aren't LC_TIME and date mask settings part of the locale settings? Also, there are ways to override the locale: But the locale settings presented in either of the two OOo dialogs mentioned do not have any ISO listing, nor is there any way of finding the ideal combination of number, currency, and date formats aside from extensive trial and error. This is both tedious and onerously inefficient. And no, one does not always want to edit the date in the same format it is displayed, the ISO 8601 format is an exceptional case where that indeed is wanted. Yet, setting up the default editing behaviour to use a separate unexplained format from the display format is both poor usability and an invitation to error. I would argue that the expected behaviour at least 90% of the time is for the editing and display format to match. Allowing an *option* for editing and display formats to be separate would be welcome. The current configuration is confusing and completely unacceptable. There is a reason other spreadsheet programs do not work this way. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
