This was done into my user/documents directory. I then installed using the default install wizard. I got a message window stating that the download was successful. I checked the ProgramFiles directory, and the .exe files and readmes, etc. were there. The OO icons can be found in the Start menu in the usual places. I copied and then pasted shortcuts to my desktop. Double clicking on the Writer, CaLc, & Impress icons caused hard drive activity for ~30 sec, but nothing happens after that, no messages, nothing. I read the readme.html document re. administrative setup, and I didn't knowingly do this, and don't have the msvc90 dll. I have no idea what the message about the startup string means & I don't see what my problem has to do with the 'default' office application anyway. As for the video driver, yes I do have an NVIDIA card installed in my laptop to run a proprietary application which REQUIRES OpenGL compatibility. Furthermore, the card was included with the computer, so I expect that the driver is the proper one for Vista and my machine; besides, I have no other graphics issues with this machine. I have spent all afternoon downloading OO, so I would appreciate a prompt and comprehendible reply. I did restart Writer each time I made a change to permissions or contexts, but nothing changed. After I removed the underscore characters from the directory name, the fonts showed up in OO Writer after a restart. The names of the files in that directory also have underscore characters in them, but it does not prevent them from being included in the list. And the reason is that the applications preserve the topleft corner of the visual area currently ( the application is not centered any more ). So it looks like the problem was workarounded. At the beginning the problem has mixed problems with embedded object and embedded pictures. Additionally the part of scenario was already fixed, so when I have got the issue it was already only about all the applications except Calc. And the original reason was the same as the reason for issue 76401 ( at least as it looks currently for me ), change of the container visual area position was not notified to the active object. I completely agree that the issue 76401 should not be marked as duplicate of this issue in this case. If think that there is a possible workaround for the other platforms until we get a proper notification. Usually it is a safe bet that an application that puts something into clipboard also has the focus. So instead of polling for the clipboard state all the time it should be enough to do it once when one of our document windows gets the focus. I can't imagine a lot of cases where this shouldn't work, even without a clipboard change notification. The user scenario to edit an OLE object within impress is much more common than maximizing a window while in edit mode I think.
