I.e. if you have a text abcd and the cursor is positioned after the d, as soon as the 4 is hit while entering Alt-0154 (Alt-key still pressed) the cursos moves one position to the left an the special character is inserted between the c and d. Similarly, if you want to insert a special character containing the 6 in its value (e.g. Alt-0156), the cursor moves to the right. If the text is within a table, then in addition the width of the column(s) and the table are changed. This does not occur when NumLock is on. Tested on WindowsXP and Windows Vista, German version of OpenOffice 3.1 (also RC of 3.1.1), external keyboard of a desktop PC and integrated keyboard of a notebook. It could maybe accepted that in case numlock is off the input is ignored. But insertion at a wrong position and maybe additionally changing the table layout is unacceptable. Here are some additional comments to assist anyone else with issues like this: I was eventually able to download and install OOO310m11 (Build:9399) (which is 3.1.0) on my Ubuntu 9.04. This problem persisted. I fired up a virtual machine in which I could install the deb's from Openoffice.org, but had issues getting everything to work correctly when installing in the virtual machine. (Canonical makes use of different directories than does Openoffice.org and this issue was masked by many other installation issues.) And, I do not have the time to download the source and build from there. So, to make the application on which I am developing more feasible for use in the real world, I stepped away from C++ and write equivalent code in Java. That code works without any issues. My decision to change languages was based on the fact that if I had to re-build from source, so would any user of the application which I was building, and those potential users would have the same re-build issues. So, my solution is to only attempt to interface with OOo from Java, not from C++. For anyone else looking at this issue, note that I have found several other types of objects over and above just an array of TableColumnSeparators for which there is no typedescription in my work on this issue in C++. The change to Java is not my choice, but is forced by this issue. Also, in my research on this issue I came across a web page (which I can no longer find) which indicated that there was some type of issue with UNO and arrays of objects. This web page dated from 2004 or 2005 if I remember correctly so it may be out of date. So, this bug can remain closed and INVALID as long as anyone else who comes across the same issues simply discontinues the use of C++. Thanks for all the help... I feel that this is still an issue with Open Office. This point is in itself a big challenge, quite a paradox... Meaning: you want the same shortcuts in OOo across OS AND shortcuts which are compliant with the OS while OSs don't comply between each other... as you say: the rationale is to support both native and cross platform use of OOo (=paradox), so what should we do? - when someone wants a different *default* shortcut, we usually say Tools - Customize - Keyboard - 'do it yourself', why? Because our defaults are a fragile edifice which *tries* to be consistent inside of OOo (Calc, Writer...), with the current OS AND across the OS. So we will NEVER make everybody happy while changing our default because an other OOo App, an other OS needs *this* shortcut for something else... Do you get the dilemma? Well, now I guess you will get it: - you proposed to re-map F11 to F12. Fine! But - as you said - you have no alternative for F12 (which is Numbering/Bullets in Writer and Group Row/Column in Calc, both shortcuts which are, I think, VERY used in both apps since years). I do understand what you mean but what I stated above should make you think about is the default shortcut implementation I proposed worth the effort?. You are right, it's worth thinking about it but not worth WE (core developers, UX, QA) think about it right now. So, instead of closing this issue as WONTFIX (meaning: it's too peanuts to be done) or reassigning to the endless pile of REQUIREMENTS, I will reassign it back to you with the requirements to: 1) Find unused shortcuts for F12 in Calc and Writer which are the same for both applications AND don't collide with existing shortcuts. 2) Those shortcuts should avoid Ctrl+(Shift)+Letter which are most of the time *localized* or should adapt to the different localizations... Have fun! ;) Last advices: once you have found suiting shortcuts fulfilling all those requirements, please explain your needs findings on disc...@ux.openoffice.org. Type spaces. Navigate away from the page (page up or down) so the underlining you did is not on screen. Then come back to display the underlined text. You will see that the underlining is about twice as long as the text you chose to underline. You can confirm this by selecting to the end of the line. The highlight will stop about half way along the distance of the underlining you can see. Also, “right-aligned tab” feature is not working for me. I wonder if these two defects are related? They both relate to underlining which is why I mention them both in this report. On the line above, I selected Format → Paragraph → Tabs . I selected “Right” for the type and “underline” for the fill character. Notice there is no underlining. I have a sample document that demonstrates these defects.
