I uploaded one example document to http://www.rosenau-ka.de/misc/x.odt. It is not important if the dictionary to a language is installed but only if OpenOffice knows the ISO code of a language. To create such language codes you first mark the lines with any language (e.g. Bolivian Quechua qoh-BO or qol-BO) and save the .odt file. You rename the .odt file to .zip and extract content.xml (this is the only file where language codes are stored). You modify this .xml file, write it back to the .zip file and rename the .zip to .odt. In content.xml change the following tag: style:text-properties fo:language=qoh fo:country=BO / After change: style:text-properties fo:language=quz fo:country=PE / = Language information gets lost (Format - Character - Language says none) = After saving and looking on the new content.xml you see that the information is really lost. To verify that the problem is not the manual editing of content.xml I did the same with a known language code (for test purposes I used Mexican Spanish es-MX). Modify content.xml the following way: style:text-properties fo:language=es fo:country=MX / = Worked well. (Format - Character - Language says Mexican Spanish) The problem is that I read in the l10n mailing lists that a lot of patched OpenOffice versions exist that can handle some exotic languages. If a minor change (e.g. only page format change) is done with a normal OpenOffice version the language information will be lost! I was told about the reason of the problem. I thought about a big solution and posted my ideas to the d...@l10n list. Unfortunately it seems my mail was not accepted by the list for some reason. In december 2008 I tried to do some tests with the clipboard (Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V) with the OO 3.0.x version under Windows where I did the same I did with content.xml with Windows clipboard data. I had some very strange effects (I cannot exactly remember what) but in the end the entire spell checking system (including English and German) did not work any more and I had to reinstall OpenOffice to get it working again. I am obliged to paste in a reduced number of lines, and to do it several times, it is very annoying.
