And found the next: When you allow to create backup copy of documents, and set backup time to 2 minutes, it creates autosave files (for example filename.odt_0.odt) with 0B size. It can cause that recovery can not give any results. And it works very spontaneously sometimes works after 2 minutes, sometimes not. Creates multiple _x.odt files where x is 0,1,2,3,4,5 (filename.odt_5.odt is the latest), all files 0B size. I tested with a copy of file ~1MB size (http://www.pitonyak.org/database/AndrewBase.odt), opened it and still open 3 hours, added some spaces to text, after ten minute, stayed open during lunch (~1 Hour) added more spaces. I made manual saving, it created a normal ~1MB backup copy in backup folder. If I could set the keyword, I would. Drag and drop shouldn't even be the default. This does not just affect the word processor. It also affects other programs in the suite --at least the spreadsheet-- so the component should be reset. This doesn't even depend on a user error. Drag and drop sensitivity varies unpredictably with the speed of the computer and its current state. Accidental mouse strokes can and do ruin documents, sometimes without detection. And what if you have a touch pad? An errant touch can really mess up a document, and you may never know until it's too late. If you are working on a big-bucks proposal, you can discover the hard way that this is a very serious problem. Even Microsoft has the good sense to allow disabling this misfeature, and they do it at the application level. Contrary to jes' comments, drag and drop is NOT a system setting. At the moment, I'm typing with a very ordinary setup: Win XP, MS mouse, Dell computer. I checked the entire menu for system mouse settings and there is no drag and drop setting. And don't assume this is an accessibility issue. I'm an expert touch typist and I'm fast with editing. This document opens normally in Writer but causes Word 2000 to become unresponsive, stating that it is counting thousands of pages. In fact in my experience any document saved by Writer 3.2.0 in Word format with vertical text in a table cell causes problems when opened in Word. I am not sure if this is a symptom of the same bug. I appreciate that these problems are caused by the difficulties in dealing with a proprietary binary file format. Eventually give up and use Task Manager to close OO. Thinking my older OO3.0.x might be the problem, I downloaded and installed the latest build (#9420). The problem remains the same w/the newer version. If you'd like me to send you the DOC file that causes the problem, provide and email address and I will. The document is not complicated, has two text tables with 4 columns, each table has a heading in row 1 that spans 3 columns. The tables are formatted to have no borders, so the resulting printout looks like two numbered lists with a max depth of 3 levels.
