Another Mandriva 2010.1 user chiming in.

Version: 3.2.0.9 - OOO320m12 (Build:9483)
Packages: openoffice.org-3.2-4.1mdv2010.1
Language: English

I noticed there's been some discussion of this (same/similar/related?) issue on
the Debian bug tracker today:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601078

This comment by Charles Plessy looks like a particularly promising nugget:

--QUOTE--

Of course, as René noted, the key difference is probably that 3.2.1-7ubuntu1
depends on libicu42 and 3.2.1-9 depends on libicu44.

I investigated the differences between the versions 4.2 and 4.4 of icu, in
particular in the directory “source/data/unidata/”. Support for parenthesis
seem to have changed while switching from Unicode 5.1 to 5.2. In particluar,
the right parenthesis and right square bracket, but not the right curly bracket
have been moved from a ‘Close_Punctuation’ (CL) to a ‘Close_Parenthesis’ (CP)
category. This completely fits with the symptoms that were also reported
to the openoffice bug tracker
(http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=112240).

Do you this is enough to reassign this bug to the libicu44 package ?

-- END QUOTE --

Note that Charles links back to here.

My own ICU package is: libicu44-4.4-2mdv2010.1

Anyway, hope this might help, and this bug gets my vote.

As mentioned, with Formata Bold, the trademark symbol (circle-R) ends up as the
letters "fi" in the resulting pdf that is created from OO. Using the Insert/
Special Character function of OO, I scrolled through all of the characters in
the Formata Bold font and found "fi" under the subset described as "Alphabetic
Presentation forms". The character address of "fi" was listed as "U+FB01" in the
window for inserting special characters. The actual trademark symbol has a
character address of "U+00AE (174)", according to that window. Somehow, OO
mishandles things when converting to pdf.

Hi,

I created a basic database in OpenOffice Database, a few versions ago, to keep
record and track of all the photo orders that we handle in our company.

Very basic structure, one table with all the info. (unique ID = Order Number,
etc.), One Form to enter the info and also search by OrderNumber.

I updated yesterday to the latest version, rev. 000320m18, and since doing so
there are now multiple entries in the table that are exact duplicates of each
other, up to 4 entries that are exactly the same. Also, the table is missing
some lines of data as well as.

The search utility is also having issues as I am not able to find some entries
that I know are there. Searching by the UniqueID (OrderNumber) was usually how
it was done and it worked but now not at all.

At first, I thought the database was corrupted but I, also, use this database
via OpenOffice Writer to print out envelopes in a Mail Merge. When querying the
database through Writer, the information shows up correctly as entered.

Any info on how to resolve?

Many Thanks

In OpenOffice 3.1.1 Calc for Linux, I hit Format/Cell, change the type to Text,
click OK, go back and enter numbers I want treated as text, not quantities, like
"8/10". The program instantly converts these entries to dates, e.g. "8/10/10".
I go back and check the Format/Cell dialog box, and it has reverted to the
default "Number." So apparently the program is doing 2 things wrong: not saving
the changed formatting, and automatically converting numbers in that format to
dates with noplace to turn off that conversion. This is intensely annoying, and
preventing me from entering what I need to for work.

Situation:
I have a spreadsheet document where the language is set to German for the whole
document (Options -> Language).

Problem:
Calc sets the language of some paragraphs to English. The text of these cells
was (most probably) copied from a writer document (where the language is also
German).

It is possible to set the language back to German with
1) selecting the text _in_ the cell
2) calling Format -> Character -> Font -> Language
But one has to repeat this for every cell where calc wrongly switch language.
This is a tedious procedure for more than just a few cells.

There seams to be no way to set the language for all paragraphs in a document. I
tried the follwoing procedures (which do _not_ work):
1) setting the language for the current document in
   Extras -> Options -> Language
2) selecting all cells
   Format -> Cells -> Font -> Language

The HE-templates site is completly in LTR direction, can it be mirrored to RTL?
It also causes problem with Hebrew (=RTL) translated strings, when the
characters like ".,!" in end of a string got pused to the right side (the
beginning of the string), instead of the left (end of the string). it can be
fixed by switch the page direction to RTL, or by add RLM marks at the end of the
Hebrew strings (done meanwhile in the two translated guide pages).

OK. Now I see when a bug sits out there for the past 5 years it looses
attention. The Stretch works, it just doesn't get saved when a doc is saved.
If it is in the software why wouldn't it just work and take 5 years and still
not be fixed. A workaround would be something that wouyld be offered when this
was first posted. Plus having multiple fontwork objects to maintain is more
work when OO has a function for it. So that said, 5 years later is there an
ETA on fixing this?

Draw a fontwork object from the fontwork gallery. Make sure it is active with
green handles.
If not there, open the fontwork toolbar.
In this toolbar click the black rectangle of the icon forth from left. It should
open a window, where you can set the alignment of the fontwork text. But the
window doesn't open.

This works in OOo3.2 and at least till DEV300m78. In OOo330 it is broken till
OOo330m1 (build 9514) and in DEV300 it is broken since DEV300m82 (build 9510). I
haven't got a build between to test it.

Stretching works as expected, if the fontwork object has only one line. So there
is an easy workaround, put each line into a separate fontwork object. Setting
back to P3.

My slide has a title and a bulleted list.

In Powerpoint:
The title and the first bullet roll in when the slide is opened (animation set
to "with previous" and there is no previous so it should display immediately).

In Impress I must click to show the header and first bullet.

When importing a slide with an embedded video object from powerpoint (pps)
1: it plays out of sequence (as the first thing of the slide in stead of when
the animation tells it to start)
2. it stays visible in the background making the background black
3. it does not scale properly (original size in stead of full screen)

In cws hsqldb19, dated 2010.11.23.

Interval types gives assertions in query in external server connected odb file,
which works correctly in built in hsqldb.
The queries runs without problem in odb file with built in Hsqldb 2.0.1.

They gives assertions, and create empty result set, with external server:

SELECT (CURRENT_DATE - "Datum_1") YEAR AS AGE FROM "Table111"

SELECT CAST ( INTERVAL '145 23:15:19' DAY TO SECOND AS INTERVAL DAY(4) TO HOUR )
FROM "Table111"

Where the "Datum_1" is the date field.

The hsqldb.jar and sdbc_hsqldb.jar added to classpath.

I use same hsqldb version, what is in cws hsqldb19 latest version classes
folder, I copied it into server folder.

To correct the smoothness of a bezier curve, the function impCorrectContinuity
uses the actual point and the previous control point in order to define the
position of the next
control point, even if the vector between these two points is much smallest
than the vector between the actual point and the next control point.

This can lead to some odd drawing like in
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/75177/Image280.zoom.png
( see the last messages at the end of issue:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=115096 ).

Therefore, just a small proposition which first checks what is the longest
vector and according to the result modifies the previous control point or the
next control point.

In Writer, type the string "ǰack" at the beginning of a line.
When the auto uppercase kicks in the string becomes "J̌ck".
The 'a' disappears.

In Calc, UPPER("ǰack") doest the right thing, it returns "J̌ACK"

When I define my page size to 10,50cm (4.13") X 14,80cm (5.83") and later I
decide to change the page orientation, Ooo Writer redefines the size of the
paper to 10 times bigger!

You need first to set up the new size, and click OK. Than you go back to
Format-Page and change the orientation. And BUM, you have a new huge page.

This only happens with exactly that values (10,5cm x 14,8cm / 4.13" x 5.83").

I found this problem over Linux SUSE and Windows XP, with Ooo 3.2.1 in English
and also German, with Inches and also cm as Measurement unit.
