Would it be possible to just expose some vetoable listeners to oo basic for the
different kinds of formatting operations (formatting with / without using
styles, adding / changing styles).
The use case would be that i can provide some oobasic module code bundled with
my template that can react to user actions, veto or change them.

- create writer document doc1, with some sections
- create writer document doc2
- insert in doc2 linked sections, pointing to a section in doc1
- send doc2 to a friend (but not doc1)
- friend opens document, is asked should links be updated ( or so)
- friend says yes

what happens:
- content of linked section is lost

what should happen
- OOo finds that target of linked section does not exist, and does not update
linked section, possibly giving a warning

hello dear other wiki filter hackers,
you might want to support issue 40504: User defined Parameters for XSLT Filter
why?
this would make it possible to pass parameters to an xslt export filter, like
this:

select type of wiki
[ ] mediawiki
[ ] dokuwiki
...

see the attached document.
a quite common task: search double spaces, replace with single spaces.
to track all changes i set 'record changes' and 'show changes'.

now search: ' ' (double) replace ' ' (single) - all occurences.
the doc contains one double and one tripla spaces bundle.

how it should be (and is if i dont set 'show changes')
first replace-all: 2 occurences
second replace-all: 1 occurence

how it is:
first: 2
second: 2
third: 3
fourth: 4
fifth: 5
fifth: 5
...

and the expected effect, to replace all multiple spaces, is not done.

@bh: you may or may not be right, that users would or would not actively select
said option.
but please consider this: i am responsible for content in a corporate
environment.
the reality: quite many of my authors deliver content, that has elements of
typewriter layout, e.g. they use whitespace instead of tabs, or there are
bogus paragraph delimiters at the end of line.
there would be no problem if these documents would just go to print. but if my
editors process these texts, a significant amount of time goes into
re-formatting, because just one inserted word often breaks the typewriter
layout.

ok, so we do trainings for authors, tell them to take care of those nonprinting
characters. and here is the heart of the problem: there is high resistance
against diaplaying those characters, because (being displayed the same) they
confuse authors and take away attention from content and layout.

please, please, help us reduce our processing and training costs. like it is now
it is a real pain.

oh, that was the misunderstanding: no, it does not necessarily crash.
but *if* it crashes (4. *let* it crash) everything is lost.

i apol9ogize and here a better *description*:

Steps:
1. open database
2. change report
3. click on save in report window

Result:
form is saved in memory, odb file is not touched.
this only happens when doing a save in the main db window.

Expected result:
odb save should be done automatically after i save a report or form or query.

is it is, there is the risk to lose hours of work in case OOo crashes.
(which happened several times to my users and they just wont understand why do
i have to save twice in order to save a form)

may i ask what worksforme means?
does it mean you cannot reproduce my bugreport (this might mean there is a
misunderstanding or i did not clarify the thing enough)
OR
does it mean you can reproduce but dont see any problem in this (its not a bug,
its a feature ;-)

to say it in other words:
the bug is about: when you save a DB form it is only saved in memory, not to
the odb file on disk.

yes this is always reproducible here.
just tested it with a form: changed the form, saved it, but the odb file was not
touched and save button in main window changed to active.

using 2.2.0 on ubuntu which says it is OOF680_m14 Build 1.

testing a current version i do not dare on my production pc.
you really cannot reproduce?
i might reopen it if it lasts in a productive 2.3 version.

I could find no possibility to adjust the text color manually.
(is this a known issue?)

I cannot sell a form with an inconsistent layout to my customers, and if i did,
this was no good for openoffice.
This issue makes it impossible to create forms for customers with consistent
layout, if they contain listboxes.
So this is a real bug.

If i missed something ploease correct me, i would be glad!

see attached file:
main table has 2 fields that reference the same other table.
creating a query with one reference works.
extending the query so that it contains the second reference works too at first.
after closing this query an attempt to edit it gives column id unknown, query
opens only in SQL.

it seems to me that query designer creates incorrect sql:
select ... from main, number

expected:
select ... from main, number, number as number1

fixing the sql manually seems to fix the issue

(thank you), i can confirm his experiences.
Also, when doing Trainings, Users again and again ask for outline mode.
I dont try to sell them Navigator, it's just not what they want.

Nonprinting characters should be greyed out.
At least it should be possible that they are displayed not in the text color but
more transparent.

Why? At the moment i only can choose between one devil - i do not see the
nonprinting characters - and another devil - i see nonprinting characters but
they clutter up my visual layout. With greyed out nonprinting characters i could
see my layout AND know what really happens.

This is a real issue when i have OOo Trainings: Everyone ( at least me and the
chiefs ;-) want users to learn intelligent formatting (use tabs, not spaces and
so on), so users should switch ON nonprinting charscters.
In the real world most users do not switch on nonprinting characters, because
then they cannot see their final layout anymore.

There seem to be some related issues with indirect_xl:
(i think it might be better to bundle them here)
- using indirect($Table1.a1), exporting table to .xls, and opening with OOo ,
gives indirect_xl($Table1.a1) resulting in an error 502. expected result:
indirect_xl(Table1!a1)
(NOTE: these are in fact 2 issues, $ (which excel does not know) and .(OOo)
/ ! (excel)

I'll try to give an example:
- create a video database with 10 items
- create a template with just 1 sentence and 2 database filds in it:
Video number id has title title.
- do a mailmerge against the video database
- result: 10 sentences on 10 pages

can this clarify?

Database reports are very limited at the moment: The wizard generates tables,
changing the layout is limited.
Database reports should be customizable as freely as any mailmerge document.

Videos was just an example to make it not too complex.
One of the use cases i want is to print out tasks.
As the field description can be arbitrary large, the labels suggestion
cannot do the job, as a label has a fixed layout with limited space per item,
but my descriptions vary from two words to two pages.
of course i can do a mailmerge but having all the two-word-descriptions on
separate pages is not acceptable.
of course i can print out a naked database table with my tasks, this might be ok
for me, but in a business presentation i need additional layout around these
tasks.

there are other use cases for formfeed-free mailmerge, but i hope this one can
clarify the idea. please try to understand. i am pushing free software like OOo
in business contexts, but sometimes small limitations can be big showstoppers!

Another wy to say it:
- in the printer dialog there are options to choose
- in the pdf-export there are options to choose
- only when i develop xslt export filters, there is no (easy) way to hand over
options to the xslt

I did not know this.
But when do trainings i would prefer to tell people you dont have to learn all
that, just right-drag and the application asks you
(which is what MS office does, and what many apps do when draganddropping)

perhaps this is for user-experience?

Mailmerge creates one page per Database record.
I want to use Mailmerge to create a database report with my own custom layout,
but the new-page-per-record thing is a showstopper for me.
Coule new page per record be made an option in mailmerge?

I would be happy to get rid of the .
I'm not used to treat it as a special character.

For many characters (like backslash and all kinds of brackets eg) i have the
intuitive feeling of oh, this might be a special character, so i better escape
it..., but OOo is the only place i know where has a special meaning so i
would never have the idea to escape it...

I think in fact this is a re-statement (or just related to) of issue 9899,
fields not updating on refresh

In many appllications, right-mouse-button drag-and-drop lets you choose between
different drop modes.
In writer you would select copy/move/insert hyperlink/cancel like in MS Word
2000.

suggestion: close duplicate issue 23354 which is non-specific anyway.

[sc-issues] [Issue 40285] Quickly move Rows and columns like in Writer

Can you shortly describe what exactly should happen if, f.e., a cell
is highlighted and Ctrl-Alt-Up is pressed.
I expect it should - as in Writer - swap the contents of the highlighted cell
with the one contents of the cell above.
Now, how do you think, swapping(moving) whole lines/colums should work?
My Suggestion:
- ctrl-alt-cursor = move row or column (because you (at least i ;-) need this
much more often)
- shift-ctrl-alt-cursor = move cell

Please consider, that in contrast to Writer there might be lots of references
to the cell(s) of interest and the ones next to them.
How to handle that? Maybe equal to moving cells with drag-and-drop?
Right. We have to preserve all references!

Please see my StarBasic Implementation for further details.
Might serve as a starting point...

[graphics-issues] [Issue 13972] Resizing text when resizing objects

I would support this request and call it BUGFORME...
In 90% of my use cases (flyers etc) i want text to resize with other objects.

Corel Draw does this by Default.
(Corel distinguishes Text Objects - where the font size does resize - and Text
Boxes - where font size does not resize.

This issue is the reason i still have to use corel draw... :-((

[xml-issues] [Issue 40504] User defined Parameters for XSLT Filter

OK.
Example use case:
I have written a simple html with no frills export filter.
I wan to customize things like
- Include comments?
- Include invisible text?
- Active Directory (With Links to the chapters)?
- Character Set
-...

(Its similar to the print or export to pdf dialogs)

Implementation:
A *really simple* implementation would be a dialog like

userparameter = [fill in here]
(only one parameter, XSLT has to parse all the info it needs...

A *really nice* implementation would be to assign an Options Dialog to each XSLT
Filter

Hope this helps!
