At this moment I cannot reproduce the problem although the file was not altered since it was sent. And I do not see the button of an extension enhancing search/replace, which I had installed many months ago. Possibly this extension was automatically deleted upon an update of OOo. (I cannot say precisely when the button disappeared, because I had used it very rarely.) Besides, I had created a macro, which stopped working a few weeks ago. Was it a result of an OOo update, too? Should I do something to reactivate this macro? Is it possible to avoid such results of the updates? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 110399] Warn user to Please veri fy if your document has been properly recovere d after recovery.

Do you mean automatic reports? I think I accepted sending the auto-report about this crash (see P.S.). Is there a way to make a use of it? Regarding the recovering doesn't use (...) the autosaved file but temps files - so what for are autosave's? May be I misuse the word autosave - I mean the operation for which I can define the frequency with the following path (provided I am translating names correctly from Polish to English): ToolsOptionsLoad/SaveGeneral section 2 (Save?), item 3 with minutes field. Regarding we can add... - yes please, do it. The current texts promise too much. To be precise, I am using a Polish version of OOo. The message after restoring documents, in the column Status, says (translated back to English) Recovered correctly. Similarly, in some circumstances, immediately after the crash I can see a message All documents will be saved, which also suggest that everything will certainly be good. If the above messages do not properly correspond to their originals, I can write to the authors of Polish translation of OOo package. If you (i.e. OOo Programers) would like to improve yet further the restoring dialog, I suggest to let the user decide for each document whether it should be restored or not. The user should be given the info about each document whether it was modified since its last (succesful) save, and possibly, what is the timestamp of the version saved in a normal way and what is the time corresponding to what might be restored. A box with exclamation would be good: this should make users read the message carefully - at least these users who used to listen when somebody is speaking to them. If OOo can distinguish whether the recovery is guaranteed or not, the message in the guaranteed case should not contain the exclamation mark. Thanks in advance Alfa333 P.S. I do not perfectly remember whether I accepted or cancelled the report, but I have (in my mail folders) an automatic report confirmation; the confirmation was dated March 25, 21:28, so comparing this with the timestamp of the corrupted file (March 25, 19:50) and with the timestamp of my first post in this thread, this seems the report was about *that* crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm attaching a .zip: - The file preview2.JPG is a new screen shot of the print preview of zarobki i zaswiadczenie o GKT.odt. I have noticed the 3 in the title of the previous image (and also on the task bar when popped up) and I was a little surprised: the file zarobki i zaswiadczenie o GKT.odt was in a single view, however another file was in a triple view. When making preview2.JPG I have made 200% sure that the file zarobki i zaswiadczenie o GKT.odt was in a singe view. I guess that the 2 in the title bar normally apears for the print preview. But when I quitted the print preview and invoked it once again, the digit 3 appeared in the title bar (although zarobki i zaswiadczenie o GKT.odt was the only file read in, and it was not multiplied by Window-New); when I have repeated this once again, digit 4 appeared, and so on. - Sorry for I haven't stated explicitly in my previous post, that I had checked the settings under Tools Options - OOo - Appearance - they were all to Automatic ; to make you believe I'm adding a file Appear.JPG to the .zip, which shows general options and Writer options. Those options that are outside the copied area, are set to Automatic too. - My OOo is really 3.2.0, you can see that in OOo_ver.JPG - I don't know which printer options could be important. However I tried to switch the printer (in Printer settings) to two other printers, and the preview still was grey. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 110399] Math formulas in .odt not restored after a crash
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=110399 --- Additional comments from alfa...@openoffice.org Fri Mar 26 21:39:47 + 2010 --- @es: I don't see a way to reproduce the crash (most of my crashes happen in different circumstances). And this was the first case that the recovery was not satisfactory (so my vigilance was relaxed). I suggest to display different messages in two distinct situations: - if OOo has completed autosave before the crash and is using so saved files for the recovery, then these files are reliable (except that results of a few minutes of the user's work are lost) - in this case the message (forgive me, if the following translation from Polish does not precisely match the English message) The files were restored correctly is fully justified. - if OOo tries to save the files AFTER detecting troubles (like it was in my case), then perhaps there is a danger of unreliable saving. In this case the user should be effectively warned (e.g. with big red letters) that he/she should verify the file (this corresponds to mav's post, above). This message should also present a way, in which (after a negative verification of some files) the user could make a use of previous, correctly autosaved versions of selected files. Of course if a file was manually saved *after* its last autosave, the user should be informed about that. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. After a crash of OOo, the documents were claimed correctly restored (see also P.S.). To be precise, OOo displayed a message about a crash and said that the documents will be saved, and the progress bar confirmed the process of saving. However all math formulas were lost - see the attachment pochodne38.odt (e.g. simple formulas on p. 12 and 16, or more complex on p. 23 and others). I realize, that sometimes this is not possible to restore files correctly. But please, make sure the user is warned clear enough that the file is partly corrupted. I would prefer in this case to get back to a previous copy properly saved (I attach it as P38BAK.ZIP); in the actual situation I worked almost an hour with a bad file, and now I will have to do this work again. Alfa333, a user of OOo 3.2.0 OOO320m12 (Build:9483), WinXP Pro SP2. P.S. In the file bad search for coloured words demo.odt make the following search (^F): * Type the search string wartosc (without quotes) * More optionsFormatFont effects (if I translate well the Polish name of the 2nd tab which reads Efekty czcionki - is it Font effects or perhaps Typeface effects?) * Select the colour either Black or White or Automatic. * Click OK * Click Find Result: the third word wartosc is found but the first and second ones are skipped, or even none is found when Black is selected. But all three seem to be typed in the same color (black); perhaps the first two are Automatic, but they are not found even with Automatic font colour selected in FindFormat. Besides, if Automatic colour is selected, on the Find dialog window it is displayed as White. By the way: is there a way for users of national versions of OOo to know precise translations of notions needed in reporting bugs or enhancement requests, like menu options names? And where to send bug reports or enhancement requests that apply to national (precisely: Polish) version of OOo? For now I mean a spell checker bug and options names enhancements. This behaviour is proper (even often good), and identical as in most (or all) other text editors - but here is a suggestion how both interests can be satisfied: Before making the jump to the text cursor, OOoWriter could store an info about the current view position, then make the jump (and the action of PgDn or so) and next display a hint If you want to go back to the previous view, hit ... or similar. I think this concept would be satisfactory even with the christener's problem. P.S. The same problem happens when I unintentionally do an action that alters the text (e.g. hit a letter key or click a Center paragraph button or so). The action can be Un-Done, but this does not restore the view. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 109259] The Formula editor area u sually covers the preview of the resulting for mula.

If my text cursor is near the bottom of the window (what is typical after typing much text) and I want to create a formula (InsertObjectFormula), the formula-preview-area is located behind the Formula editor area, so I don't see the resulting formula even after F9, unless I scroll the text. It would be better if the text scrolled automatically, as much as needed to show the preview area; this should happen upon entering the Formula editor, both by InsertObjectFormula and by getting to edit an existing formula. Also, the Selection window should automatically locate so that it would not cover the preview area (if possible). Thanks in advance for implementing this. This is a minor enhancement, so if it is difficult, then ignore this request. [sw-issues] [Issue 21299] bug with horizontal line
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=21299 --- Additional comments from alfa...@openoffice.org Sun Feb 7 21:08:53 + 2010 --- Hello! Please, reopen: Deleting a horizotal line unintentionally inserted is too difficult and can make a new user give up using OOo. First a proposed solution, next the explanation of the problem (which is known, I believe). When the user tries to delete such a line in normal ways, i.e. using Delete or Backspace or Edit-Cut, with the cursor near the line, then OOoWriter might display either a dialog Do you want to remove the line? Y/N or a hint like If you want to remove the line, position the cursor just above the line and do FormatParagraph OK. These dialog windows should contain also a box Don't show me this message again, or better Don't show me this message within [ ] nearest days (to fill [ ] with a number) - so that the same or another user of this computer would have a chance to see the message. The window should also show a text like When you will want to reactivate such window(s), go to ... (and this text should be visible BEFORE the user decides not to see the message ever again - I have never set such a box in any product, because I am not sure I will be able to change my mind in future). The problem (discussed in the issues marked duplicates of this one): A horizontal line (considered a paragraph border) appears if I type three or more minus signs (or *,=,~,# signs) and Enter. The method to delete it IS in the help, but it is hard to find (and it does not work for old documents - do you want me to attach one, .odt?); and the user can be too confused to look at Help. (I'm using OOo 3.1.1 OOO310m19, WinXP Pro SP2.) With best regards, alfa333 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 103839] Jump to cursor on switchi ng between OOo documents
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103839 --- Additional comments from alfa...@openoffice.org Fri Feb 5 09:19:19 + 2010 --- Explanation to the post Created an attachment (id=67628). The body of the post was really discarded, here is how it should read (including corrections of two editing mistakes): Hi! (I'm totally new here so please forgive me for any unvoluntary mistake). This issue is still unfixed (I use OOo 3.1.1 OOO310m19, WinXP Pro SP2), and it applies also to .odt documents, not .doc only! However this happens not in all documents. I'm attaching a .zip containing pochod18.odt which DOES the jumping while no_jump.odt does not! Even on an exact copy of pochod18.odt (open simultaneously!) there was NO SUCH JUMPING, so possibly when you open this file, you will not experience jumping... Precisely, jumping to the cursor position happened (in pochod18.odt, scrolled far from the cursor) upon: - save and autosave, - arrow or PgUp/PgDn keys (this is good for me in most cases, but not each time) - of course, typing text (also good) - switching to another .odt or .ods document (for example to no_jump.odt or to rozlicz.ods) and back to the scrolled one (i.e. to pochod18.odt). Even when I had two copies of pochod18.odt, and moved from one to the other (preceeded with scrolling far from the cursor), then in one copy the jumping occured (every time!) and on the other it did not. Here is an idea, how might OOoWriter act in these (and similar) situations: present a dialog Do you want restoring the previous view? Yes/No (or press Ctrl-SomeKey). This should be configurable, whether this dialog window would close only with undoubted choise of either option, or it should close automatically if a normal user's activity is continued. In the latter case, the key combination (Ctrl-SomeKey) assigned to this action should be valid for some time to help the user if his/her typing was not fully intentional. The window should have also a button Configure this feature. And/or the user who updates his/her OOo software should be encouraged to visit a certain web page and find there description how to use this (and each new) feature. And by the way: somebody said, that Notepad and Wordpad do not jump to the cursor upon save. Well, my Notepad really does not but Wordpad does (and even if the cursor IS visible, the window contents is scrolled to move cursor to the upper border, provided there is enough text below the cursor to fill the window). This will move the text cursor to the clicked position and the jump will not happen. Of course you will loose info where the text cursor was before (however if you previously altered the text at that position, you can go to that position using Ctrl+Z Ctrl+Y what means Un-do and then Re- do). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
