However, this could, and should, be reduced to a single button. It should automatically add the word to a new personal custom dictionary, and not make the user choose between others. I'm asking again: Are the resized icons that I put up OK? Is there a better SVG source for me to use? Should I modify the existing icons? Should I create a new icon set for the Mac version? Could the Crystal Clear icons (which are under a free license and you could probably get permission from the author also) be used, as they would best fit in with the Mac OS X theme? The purpose, I suppose, is so that Sun doesn't get into any legal trouble for using contributions? Well, would it just be nice if before uploading anything you could just mark "I agree". I'm wondering if Sun would use my personal information in the JCA for any purpose (like sending me emails, giving info to third parties, etc). I think they probably don't, but I want to be sure. On Sun's privacy policy, they said, "If you choose to provide us with your Personal Information on the Web, we may transfer that Information within Sun or to Sun's third-party service providers, across borders, and from your country or jurisdiction to other countries or jurisdictions around the world." That troubles me a little; so is the JCA only needed for new icon ideas, or even if I just resize them for OpenOffice? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I downsized the icon (layer, not transparent background) using Gimp (bicubic) to 115px. The size is now nice for use in the dock. However, it is noticeably softer than the original. Furthermore, the smaller versions of the icon have also decreased greatly in size by this downsizing (yet I don't know their use anyhow). I'm thinking that using the actual SVGs would be better for getting a sharper image, but I would only be able to recreate the largest icon size with the tools I have (which may be fine for the Mac version?) I suggest that many toolbar buttons (or menu buttons) which currently only bring up dialogs be replaced with drop-down menus, instead. For example, there should be a columns toolbar button which, when clicked, drops down a menu with a few common choices (like one, two or three columns) with a "more" button to allow much more customization. Another example, the Zoom button should drop down common choices, with a "more" button to put in custom zooms, see a preview of different zooms, a zoom silder, etc. Another example (to save space), instead of having separate buttons for paragraph line separation, how about having different paragraph choices as a drop-down from a single button. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When I make suggestions to any other company (companies which seem to act upon suggestions quickly), it is in a list, and then they see everything I want, and then they respond or act or note it down. They don't require that the suggestions be checked against old suggestions, first. Why does this have to be different? This system isn't the best for software development. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 79305] Feature requests for OpenO ffice
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79305 Issue #|79305 Summary|Feature requests for OpenOffice Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.2.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|artguy10 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jul 5 21:53:50 + 2007 --- This applies to all of OpenOffice.org, maybe specifically Writer. Here are some feature requests I have, in no logical order: Scroll-bar (at the bottom of the screen, not in the toolbar) for easy zooming, with a pop-up menu (not a window) for choices like "fit page width to window". I'm sure you know this, but support for MS Office 2007 formats should be a high priority. Perhaps you can get support for .docx from NeoOffice. Please include an advanced grammar checker with explanations of suggested grammar changes. This may be just personal preference, but the Crystal icon theme seems to suit a modern program better than the current default. Regarding auto correct, instead of the notification in the corner of the window, the notification should appear subtly by the corrected word for easy modification in a non-intrusive way. When clicking on the notification, you should also have options to undo the correction, prevent the correction in this document, or permanently prevent that type of auto change. OxygenOffice includes templates, and they should be included in OpenOffice.org as well, if it is to compete for a new user's satisfaction. Double clicking in an area of the document should allow typing in that exact spot. Double-clicking in the middle, left, or right of the page should also change the text alignment for the text you are about to type. This should also allow for text to be both right and left aligned for a single line. When selecting a font size, the current font size should not show up at the top of the pop-out menu; it should appear a few spaces down for the sake of convenience. The current color scheme of OpenOffice doesn't seem as modern and professional like Google's word processor, Corel's Office programs, and recent versions of MS Office. It would be especially nice if the color scheme would match these other programs, or even look "glassy" (which is becoming popular). The current color scheme changer doesn't let you change the color of the toolbars, and the color choices are not very good. Perhaps a color wheel would be helpful for custom color schemes. (Or perhaps several predefined color schemes should be programmed into OpenOffice's options.) Many features, such as changing line spacing or columns, should be pop-out buttons from buttons on the toolbar. I (and many other users) are required to take a good deal of time for customizing and looking for work-arounds for OpenOffice.org, while the same is not true for competing office program suites. Please actively work on a redesigned layout and incorporating more features. OpenOffice can't afford to continue to fall behind other companies in regard to development and usability. I think you are already doing this in version 2.3, but it is important that the page for Writer appears in the center of the screen. Make it easy (with just a few clicks) to have real easy foreign language support. Meaning, the language menu should let you choose between a list of user-defined languages for spell checking of a document or selection. And there should be an option box dedicated to key shortcuts for special characters. (Making macros and new styles cannot be expected of every user, especially beginners.) Styles should show real previews (the should look like the styles themselves), instead of just being known by name. If I want to make a nice header for a document, I shouldn't have to test each style to know if it is right. Unusual document types, such as envelope addressing and greeting cards, should be allowed. I have found the research button/tab in Microsoft Office to be of extreme help and convenience, more than could be with right clicking a word and doing an internet search. I suggest that a similar feature be put into OpenOffice, allowing for translations, definitions, and articles to be searched for right next to the document. Included should be some way to search for (online) and open document templates. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please correct any categorizing. This is about the second beta for mac, oo 2.3 beta, I guess. There were a few obvious problens I noticed right away. A black line on the right-hand side edge of the page. Choppy scrolling. No window popped up when I tried to change macro security. The blue glass buttons are too big. Incorrect slash screen. Right clicking the icon in the dock to quit doesn't do anything (you have to use the taskbar). The icon looks way too big in the dock. There are no separate icons for Writer Calc, etc. (There should be a single OpenOffice.org folder containing icons for the various programs. I may not want to open Writer every single time.) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [marketing-issues] [Issue 79238] New splashscreen gradient
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79238 Issue #|79238 Summary|New splashscreen gradient Component|marketing Version|OOo 2.0 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|art Assigned to|jacqueline Reported by|artguy10 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Jul 4 19:15:07 + 2007 --- Regarding the splashscreen gradient (bottom of http://marketing.openoffice.org/art//galleries/marketing/design_elements/). Reading the OpenOffice style manual, I saw that openoffice.org wants to appear as a professional and advanced program. However, the gradient, to me, doesn't achieve this. The shade of blue and type of gradient look boring and not very advanced. (I realize that the purpose of the gradient is to help with adding information to the splash screen, but it just doesn't look that nice.) I suggest one of two things. One, you could change the colors and style of the gradient to look more advanced and more inviting (perhaps add a little more green to the gradient and have it more gradual rather than solid blue and white in half of the gradient). Or, do away with the gradient and just make a different type of background, such as one with geometric elements or a glass-like background or something. I am new to this and still need to familiarize myself with uploading images to the issue tracker, so I'm just making a suggestion for now. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
