@sba:
Sorry, but your argument is completely stupid!
1) What does the Alt-key have to do with the operating system or platform?
Anybody can get an industry-standard keyboard that features an Alt-key!
2) If platform-compatibility is the only thing you care about, then I suggest
to remove the colors from all icons *immediately*, since some platforms might
only support monochrome displays.

Bottom line: Enabling Alt-key-shortcuts improves the lives of (at least) 95% of
all users, and doesn't do any harm to the rest. We've been waiting for this
feature for more than 6 years now!!

Reopening.

For me, any change that has a persisting effect should be save-able.

Consider this scenario:
I open a document, just to have a look. I notice that window-freezing would be
nice, so I go for it. When I'm done with reading, I close. And when I re-open
the document tomorrow, the window-freezing is off again. Why?

This behavior is inconsistent, especially if you bear this scenario in mind:
I open a document, enter 1 into an empty cell, then delete it again. When I
close, OOo asks if I want to save the changes. Which changes??
This is just to exemplify that OOo does accept certain changes which are (to
the user) even more minor than window-freezing.

Reopening.

If you insist that "defect" means regression (compared to a previous version),
I changed the type to "enhancement".

I think you didn't get my point yet. Look at the applications you mentioned:
See what happens when you create a new document, then press Ctrl+S: The Save As
dialog pops up. And what happens in OOo: Nothing!
This is what I'm suggesting: Let the users save the empty document in the very
same way they're used to do (pressing Ctrl+S or clicking the disk symbol).

You can't be serious in suggesting to have two separate save icons in the
toolbar! One for "save an empty document" and one for "save a non-empty
document".

Reopening.

Didn't know about the Save As workaround, but this, in a way, only makes
matters worse, because it makes OOo inconsistent.

Why?
If I work on a document and stick with the same file name throughout the
document's lifecycle, I always use Save, and never have to use Save As. Because
Save As means: Save a COPY of the current document, using a DIFFERENT name. But
in our case here I want to assign a file name in the first place, so there's no
reason why I should use Save As.

So this is inconsistent, because OOo treats the saving of empty and non-empty
files different, although in reality there is no difference. And (most
important): From the user's point of view this is all the same task: Save a
file to disk.

So please enable the Save command - it wouldn't do any harm to anybody :-)

When I create a new document, I cannot save it right away.

Why would anybody want this? Because sometimes it's easier to assign a document
name and path upfront, in order to not having to bother with this while doing
the actual work.

If I click on Window > Freeze (in Calc), and alter nothing else in the

[framework-issues] [Issue 78655] OOo doesn't come to focus when opening a document from Explorer

Here's my detailed report:

Case 1: OOo not running and I double-click a document in Explorer. Effect: OOo
starts up (in focus) and opens the document. => Fine :-)

Case 2: OOo running, but no document open, and I double-click a document in
Explorer. Effect: OOo opens the document, but does not come to focus; the task
bar entry is not flashing. The very only visual feedback is that the task bar
text changes from "OpenOffice.org" to the document name (plus the task bar icon
changes from OOo's default icon to the component-specific icon). => Not fine,
but you will fix it in OOo 2.3 (if I got you right)

Case 3: OOo running with an open document, and I double-click another document
in Explorer. Effect: OOo creates a second entry in the task bar, and brings the
newly opened document to focus. => Fine :-)
(The task bar is not flashing; and I doubt that this would be Windows default
behavior - but there's no need to argue over things that work fine anyway :-)

When OOo is already running, and I open an existing OOo-document from Windows
Explorer (by double-clicking or pressing Enter), the OOo window doesn't get the
focus (i.e. doesn't come to the foreground).

It's no big thing, but I find it annoying: If I open a document, I probably
want to work on it right away

This is sort of the opposite of Issue 62091 ;-)

I DO need the hyphenation dialog, when I want to hyphenate an entire document.
Or are you serious in telling me to hyphenate some 500 pages manually line by
line? ;-)
Here's my request again: Make it possible to manually enter a conditional
hyphen in the hyphenation dialog, anywhere in the word. This is not possible
now, since it would require you to close the hyphenation dialog and enter the
conditional hyphen manually, then restart the hyphenation dialog to continue.

>I am sure that everyone who tries Calc after Excel which is probably the

My suggestion: DEL key should delete immediately; delete-contents should be
accessible via shortcut (plus right-click), maybe ALT+DEL.

Rationale: Delete-contents is an excellent function, but it's for power use,
not for everyday use. Therefore it should not be the default behavior.

Additional requests:
   d) differentiate between the num-pad and the rest of the keyboard.
Example: In M$ Word Ctrl+- gives you a conditional hyphen, whereas Ctrl+NUM-
gives you a long dash. In OOo 2.0 they both do the same (conditional hyphen),
because they are treated as the same shortcut.
   e) (as suggested on other issues before) drop the system of selecting a new
shortcut from a predefined list. Instead, let the users press the actual
shortcut themselves (and have OOo read it from the keyboard), as in M$ Word.

Feature request:
At the moment you can only hyphenate a word where OOo suggests. My request:
Make
it possible to manually enter a conditional hyphen in the hyphenation dialog,
anywhere in the word.
Judging from my (limited) programming knowledge, this should be fairly easy to
implement, since it only affects the hyphenation dialog.
Thank you!
