I am puzzled by the RESOLVED marking.

Are you waiting for additional information from me?

The environment is Windows XP Media Centre with OOo 2.0.3.

I would be glad to send relevant files if that would help.

This appears to be a general problem, i.e. not restricted to the writer.

import uno Appears to execute OK
 local = uno.getComponentContext() Fails with
Attribute error: 'module object has no
attribute 'getComponentContext.
The problem is that uno.py line 42 fails without raising an exception.

uno.unopy.getComponentContext() reports an Access Violation at address
 026E5DE5
in cppuhelper3MSC.dll

The beta V2 Guide has
Userfields
This macro helps users manage several sets of user data and allows switching
back and forth
between them. This can be quite helpful when more than one person uses the same
copy of
OpenOffice.org and each person wants to see his or her own user data in the
fields.

This would appear to be a useful tool but it is missing.

To edit a note one must use the Insert Menu - this is a bit counter intuitive.

Matthias,

Many thanks for your point by point response.

 (1) the horizontal bars of [ and ] are too thick.
Cannot confirm this. But note that sometimes one and the same formula is
rendered slightly different. Maybe this explains things.

I've posted Issue 54184 with more detail.
  ---

 (2) the two bars of = are not of equal thickness.
Yes, this is true. However there was already an issue dealing with the worse
rendering quality compared with OOo1.1.x: issue 44668.
It's closed in the meantime but the equation sign problem you describe is not
fixed. We should open a new issue spoecific to this?

Your issue 54182 addresses this
 ---
The bar over the A is not bold.
It is, at least for me with Zoom=100%

I find, with 1.9.125 that the cut-off point is 191. i.e. = a zoom of 191 the
horizontal over bar is bold, not 191.
I've posted this as Issue 54185
 --
The bar over the first a does not cover the complete bracketed expression.
Bar is not the correct thing here. bar{} is supposed to work for one
character only. What you are probably looking for is overline{}, to be found
in the lower left corner of the same symbol dialog. I admit this is a bit
confusing.

Overline is exactly what I need - thanks.

character only. What you are probably looking for is overline{}, to be found

confusing.

The bar over the second a seems more ober the i subscript than the a
Maybe left [ {bar a} rsub {i j} right ] is what you are looking for in the
second case. Here the bar is over the a only, due to the brackets.

Again, that's what I should have done. I has thought of the {} pair a being
rather like a function parenthesis i.e. collecting all the things the function
operates on.

Thanks for your help. This has improved things and left some unresolved issues.

Colin W.

Hi Colin,

Funny, how did you get THIS toolbar?

Since I don't find an Insert table button either in my UI I wonder how your's
got there. It should be clear to all of us that inserting tables in formulae is
(at least as far as I know) not supported and such button does not belong there.

I could imagine that you maybe imported settings from an older OOo installation.
Is this the case? If so, please remove the OOo2.0 installation, reinstall it and
do NOT import the old OOo1.1.x settings. After that, do you still see this
button?
  ---
Matthias,
I have removed and reinstalled 1.9.125 ( as I reported with 1.9.122 earlier).
My screen view remains as the posting of 1-Sep-05. It seems that you have put
your finger on the communication problem. Your posting of 3-Sep-05 at 03:31
shows that the German version looks completely different.

Regarding the substantive problem. I suspect that it arises because I have both
Python 2.3.5 and Python 2.4.1 installed and that one of these is being
referenced, instead of OOo's builtin version of Python 2.3.

To give a more useful report to the user, I have already suggested that some
commenting near pythonscript.py 580 be removed from the Python code.

I hope that this is of some help.

Best wishes,

Colin W.

The 08:15 picture looks good.
The 08:15 picture is the way I see things.

The first is the German version and the second we are not sure.

Is this another case where the German version is different (perhaps better than)
the English version.

I have played with a range of sizes on an XP. All have the problem.

Even the Math Doc (Chap 16) has the problem

I also followed Regina's suggestion, dropping the size in the formula and
modifying Format Font Size. Still no luck.

It seems that the vertical part of the top bar is scaled too much and the
horizontal part not scaled enough.

First, I should point out that whether the title bar was changed or not,
OOo still has a bug.

I have removed and re-installed 1.9.122.

The file: OOo_1.9.122_Win32Intel_install.zip
has 76,478 KB and is time stamped 05-08-03 09:16

I opened the Math component and the
Create Table appears on the Toolbar.

When I click on the Create Table I get the Python Traceback which
has already been reported.

Thus the problem is NOT RESOLVED.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

By removing the comment # from lines 579 and 581 - 583 of pythonscript.py,
I get the message Python is not supported

I suggest that you leave those lines uncommented so that a more informative
diagnostic is given.

I gather that OOo is intended to be self-contained and to use only
the older version of Python contained in the zip file. It seems that your
problem is that it is not self contained but makes reference to Python 2.4.1
which is installed on my machine.

I hope that this is of help to you.

I'm trying, in spite of:
still your description is incomprehensible

Where is the create table command?

Better 1 good report than 10 bad ones
---
We are dealing with 1.9.122. Below, I describe two approaches:

1. Open the Math Component. In the centre of Standard Toolbar I find a
button labelled Create Table

2. Open the Writer Component. Then Insert = Object = Format.
In the centre of Standard Toolbar I find a button labelled
Create Table

If you would like to have any further assistance please email me.
IssueZilla is a pain.

I am puzzled by the markings on this issue.

It is marked RESOLVED but no steps were taken to resolve the issue.

Further information is requested. What is the point of spelling it all out for
a resolved issue?

I have an .odt file from which I can export an adequate .pdf

The .html which is produced by SaveAs is in poor shape.

There doesn't seem to be a way of attaching a file and so a copy of
the W3C validation file, which reports 61 errors, is below.

Result: Failed validation, 61 errors
File: _zz2.html
Encoding: windows-1252
Doctype:HTML 4.0 Transitional
This page is not Valid HTML 4.0 Transitional!

Below are the results of attempting to parse this document with an SGML parser.

   1. Error Line 11 column 128: non SGML character number 28.

...%$cbrvbar;byuml;% cbrvbar;byuml;%cbrvbar;byuml;%cbrvbar;byuml;%cb

You have used an illegal character in your text. HTML uses the standard
UNICODE Consortium character repertoire, and it leaves undefined (among others)
65 character codes (0 to 31 inclusive and 127 to 159 inclusive) that are
sometimes used for typographical quote marks and similar in proprietary
character sets. The validator has found one of these undefined characters in
your document. The character may appear on your browser as a curly quote, or a
trademark symbol, or some other fancy glyph; on a different computer, however,
it will likely appear as a completely different character, or nothing at all.

Your best bet is to replace the character with the nearest equivalent
ASCII character, or to use an appropriate character entity. For more information
on Character Encoding on the web, see Alan Flavell's excellent HTML Character
Set Issues reference.

This error can also be triggered by formatting characters embedded in
documents by some word processors. If you use a word processor to edit your HTML
documents, be sure to use the Save as ASCII or similar command to save the
document without formatting information.

   8. Error Line 11 column 19: character ÿ is not allowed in the value of
attribute NAME.

META
NAME=yuml;%4cbrvbar;byuml;%0cbrvbar;byuml;%,cbrvbar;byuml;%(cbrv

It is possible that you violated the naming convention for this attribute.
For example, id and name attributes must begin with a letter, not a digit.

  ✉
   9. Error Line 11 column 110: value of attribute NAME must be a single
token.

...%(cbrvbar;byuml;%$cbrvbar;byuml;% cbrvbar;byuml;%cbrvbar;byuml;%cb

This attribute can not take a space-separated list of words as a value,
but only one word (token). This may also be caused by the use of a space for
the value of an attribute which does not permit it.

  ✉
  10. Error Line 11 column 120: character ¦ is not allowed in the value of
attribute NAME.

...;byuml;%$cbrvbar;byuml;% cbrvbar;byuml;%cbrvbar;byuml;%cbrvbar;byu

  ✉
  11. Error Line 16 column 7: required attribute TYPE not specified.

STYLE

The attribute given above is required for an element that you've used, but
you have omitted it. For instance, in most HTML and XHTML document types the
type attribute is required on the script element and the alt attribute is
required for the img element.

Typical values for type are type=text/css for style and
type=text

An attempt to read an mml file gives a GENERAL ERROR with
both the Writer and the Math component.

The two line file was produced by MathCast and is readable with Firefox.

PostPosted: Wed Aug 10, 2005 11:30 amPost subject: Reporting a bug
Reply
with quote Edit/Delete this post
I have hunted around in the OO site for some link which will permit me to report
a bug (issue). I've had no luck and so I report my little problem here:

I am using 1.9.122 with an XP. The Beta Guide says:

The Templates and Documents dialogue can be regarded as a kind of command center
for OpenOffice.org documents. It provides easy access to a user's work directory
and to any supplied sample documents. Here find all document templates - both
the supplied ones and any personally created ones. To open the dialogue, choose
File New Templates and Documents or press Shift+Ctrl+N. In Windows®,
double-click the OpenOffice.org Quickstarter icon on the task bar.

Files = New = Templates and Documents gives an error message in 1.9.122

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 1.9.118\share\samples\en_us does not exist

Colin W.

PS I, as a neophyte user, don't have a clue as to the component affected

Creating a Letter Template With the Wizard
If one is writing a personal letter, the Wizard and standard AutoTexts are not
essential, but in
formal business correspondence these aids can save a lot of time and make work
much easier.
Note: To produce a standard letter, have a look at the supplied templates.
Simply press the shortcut keys
Shift+Ctr+N or choose File New Templates and Documents.
Start the Wizard with the File Wizard Letter menu command.

The templates do not appear to be part of the 1.9.118 download.

It would be helpful to indicate, on the Title Bar whether the stored file is in
the same state as th file displayed on the screen.

Word Perfect does this with text (Unmodified)

SciTe flags a changed file with an asterisk.
