I know that the saving functions to MS Word 97/2000/XP cannot be perfected as
the format is proprietary. However, I would expect that anything generated by
OOo3 would show up nicely when reloaded back to OOo3. Attached are documents
that show otherwise.

HansDeragon-CV-en.odt shows up nicely, without any issues. Save the document as
MS Word 97/2000/XP under the filename HansDeragon-CV-en.doc. It still looks
good after the save. Close OOo3 and reload HansDeragon-CV-en.doc. Notice that
on the 2nd page the lowest level bullets have changed. Also notice that on the
last page, the table with the education background is now completely distorted.
The lowest level bullets on that page are also wrong.

This .doc file appears even worse on MS Word, but at a minimum, we should expect
OOo3 to reload any of its generated document (assuming no data loss occured like
when saving to html) and render them properly.

I confirm the problem. The priority should be increased; whenever exporting to
MS Word fails, RTF can be an alternative. However, when this fall back is not
working either, no more options remain to transmit an editable document from the
Linux world to the Windows world.

This said, I have a resume written in ODT that cannot be rendered properly on MS
Word as .doc or .rtf, but it is not a blank page that shows up in MS Word when
reading the RTF; text with bad formating shows up. Thus this bug seams to be
OOo3 related only.

The update style option does not work. The style selected does not get
updated with the definition of the current paragraph as expected.

This bug applies to OOO300m15 Build 9379.

Attached, a simple document with contains the following instructions to
reproduce the problem.

--
Click anywhere on this paragraph. Press F11 to open the « Styles and
Formatting » windows and select Indent 2 – Bulleted (but do not double click).
Go back and click the cursor again on this paragraph. Then go to the « Styles
and Formatting » and select “Update style”. It should update the style with the
content of this paragraph (which is Indent 2 – Bulleted – First). Now go to any
paragraph and apply Indent 2 – Bulleted. Notice that the style has not been
updated, thus the bug.
--

From the HELP page:

--
Updating Styles From Selections
1.Choose Format - Styles and Formatting.
2.Click the icon of the style category that you want to update.
3.In the document, click where you want to copy the updated style from. For
example, click a paragraph that you applied manual formatting to.
4.In the Styles and Formatting window, click the style that you want to update.
5.Click the arrow next to the New Style from Selection icon and choose Update
Style from the submenu.

Attached, a Writer ODT file containing an OLE Calc spreadsheet. Save this file
as a Word 97/2000/XP file then attempt to load it into MS Word 2003
(11.8237.8221) SP3 (French version used). Word shows the page and immediately
runs wild in an infinite loop, consuming CPU at 100%. Word would not respond
anymore.

Obviously, the root cause bug is within Word. But maybe there is a way to
format the generated Word document in such a way that Word would not behave this
bad. I do not have other versions of Word to test this.

The spreadsheet within the ODT is the culprit. Delete it and Word behaves
properly. Saving the file under MS Windows or Linux have the same results.

I also attached the saved Word document to spare readers the trouble to go and
save the file themselves.

I confirm that I resolved the problem.

The installation of 3.0 Debian packages on Ubuntu 08.04 did not remove the
packages of previous development version. That caused OOo to behave
erratically. After a thorough cleanup of all Debian packages installed on my
system regarding OOo, OOo 3.0 installed nicely and behaves as expected.

Could you explain why it fails for me? And why you would believe that I would
be the only one suffering from this problem?

Probably there is a dependency problem, and the deb packages do not defined
dependencies properly. There should be an explicit error about what is wrong
with my system, when a conflict occurs.

The following is not normal:

dpkg: error processing ./DEBS/ooobasis3.0-en-us-res_3.0.0-9_i386.deb

 trying to overwrite
`/opt/openoffice.org/basis3.0/program/resource/upden-US.res', which is also in

Remember, I did `rm -rf /opt` before trying to install.

Multiple errors occur when installing
OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz on Ubuntu 08.04 LTS. Thus, OOo3
is not available to for Ubuntu 08.04 users.

Oddly, I cannot find any development version of OOo from the main website. I
will continue to search. The OOo-Dev_DEV300_m29_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz
installed nicely and this is what I am still using. I just do not remember
where I got it from, thus cannot get a more recent one.

Downloaded OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz from OOo website, 32
bits.

I had OOo-dev installed previously in /opt. Could there have been a library
conflict? I just did at this moment a 'mv /opt /opt.kaput' and tried to
reinstalled the package, creating a new /opt. Now OpenOffice would not even
install (maybe it never installed properly in the first place?).

Here are the error I get:

Open a new writer document and try to insert a spreadsheet as an OLE Object.
The following error message will show up:

Object OpenOffice.org 3.0 Spreadsheet could not be inserted.

I have an already existing Writer document with two spreadsheet embedded.
Whenever I click on one of them, I get General Error. I cannot access the
data within my document anymore, though the spreadsheet does show up normally.

It worked with OO3 Dev. This bug is very disabilitating.

Ubuntu 08.04

Attached, a document. Try to set any of the paragraph to Text body. Notice
that nothing happens. There might be good reason, but the user is not warned of
the problem. From the user's perspective, there is a bug. The action is simply
not executed.

Try to update the table of content of the attached document. You will notice
that you cannot right click on the TOC, thus prevent the user to access the
“Update Index/Table sub-menu command in the pop-up that would have shown.

This document was started as an Open Document Format, then was saved as MS Word
97, then reconverted back to ODF. Probably some form of corruption occurred.

You cannot change the style of paragraphs in this document either, but this is
already another bug reported as Issue #89927.

The attached document was created as follow: A table of content was inserted.
Followed was a page break with “Default” style and numbering starting at 1. The
description of the bug followed. If this document remains in Open Document
Format, there is no problem. If it is saved as a Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP
document, then the next time it is loaded it will be read only. No changes can
be brought to the document.

This problem occurs on Ubuntu Hardy Heron 08.04 (Linux), using OpenOffice.org
3.0 beta.

Mmm... I have not downloaded the vanilla version of OO, but if the problem is
with the distribution (in this case Fedora), shouldn't someone update the
documentation at:

http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/spell_dic.html

... to mention that it is possible that the menu item be absent, explain why and
what people should do (like go check/complain to the distro provider)?

Mentions Please use OpenOffice.org's integrated wizard (File - Wizards -
Install new dictionaries) to install spell checking dictionaries, hyphenation
dictionaries, and thesauri, because these lists may be out of date!

However, there is no File - Wizards - Install new dictionaries option
available.

BTW, I downloaded manually the dictionary, but the documentation within it does
not mention how to install it!

It is very difficult to get another language being supported by OO.
