My machine and OO is set to UK locale but I often open CSV documents containing
content from the USA - in particular dates and currency have locale-specific
formats.

One can use the column type field to correct the format/types of these
columns, but this is a bit tedious for a large file.

Allowing the user to specify the locale of the entire imported CSV file on the
text-import window would allow all the CSV text to be interpreted correctly in
most cases, with field-specific settings being the exception.

(The only other approach I know of is to change global options in the OO
settings, which is really impractical and somewhat confusing.)

Thanks!

It appears that if you flip (ie horizontally) an image which was previously
cropped, the original is flipped instead. However the crop window is retained
so the result is that the cropping no longer matches the image.

The crop effect should be flipped accordingly.

If I create a list (either numbered or bullets) and then change it to the other
type (ie bullets or numbered) the indent increases. Each time I change the list
type, it indents again.

I will attach a sample document where I have switched types about 6 times.

When saving a PDF I selected only a single page to be saved. When I return to
export it again, that setting is lost. I have to re-select the pages rage and
also re-enter the page number(s).

I would have expected the prior options to remain until I changed them.

I inserted a drawing object (a big arrow) into my document from the drawing
toolbar. I was then unable to insert any fields or cross-references into the
object, though editing plain text was possible. (I.e., I tried to insert a
chapter number.)

This would be a useful feature (enhancement?)

[sw-issues] [Issue 101479] Confusing error message w hen printing transparent objects

--- Additional comments from dho...@openoffice.org Thu May 6 12:14:13

The word aspect is not a good choice, its meaning is not clear. Do you mean
that the transparency should be reduced (ie, treat it as opaque)? In which case
does reduced imply that it would be not transparent at all, or somehow *less*
transparent?

Text such as, should the object be treated as not-transparent to speed up
printing? might be easier to understand and less wordy.

(your printing process also seems like an unecessary mouthful instead of just
printing.)

Thanks!

When exporting to a PDF file in writer, the path it initially choses to save the
PDF seems arbitrary.

I think it is defaulting to wherever you saved the last PDF you exported.

It would seem, to me, to be more likely to be correct if it chose the path of
the file being exported.

Note I have not tried this other than Writer but it may exist in the other apps
too.

The character style list/dropdown for a bullet list is not listed in
alphabetical order.

Although not a big deal, the list is actually quite long and this is a bit of a
pain.

eg when I added a new style, I had to carefully scroll through the entire list
to find it (it was in the middle somewhere).

I'll attach a screenshot in a second.

If the arrow keys are used during a format painter operation, it doesn't behave
consistently with how the mouse works.

Expected behavior:
1. Position cursor in cell whose format is to be copied (Cell 1)
2. Click format painter icon with the mouse (mouse pointer changes)
3. Move one cell with the arrow key (to Cell 2)
4. Format of Cell 2 is applied to Cell 2
5. Mouse pointer goes back to normal

What actually happens:
1. Position cursor in cell whose format is to be copied (Cell 1)
2. Click format painter icon with the mouse (mouse pointer changes)
3. Move one cell with the arrow key (to Cell 2)
4. Nothing happens to the format of Cell 2; mouse pointer unchanged
5. Click with the mouse in any cell (Cell 3)
6. Format from Cell 2 is applied to Cell 3
5. Mouse pointer goes back to normal

I think the mouse behavior is correct...

This is minor and does not affect productivity.

The first edit of text in a text box causes the border on the same line as the
text to be partially erased.

This is hard to describe but I'll add before and after screenshots.

(I have only tried this with bulleted lists.)

I use the OD* file formats as the default.

Here's the scenario:

1. Load a Word document
2. File, Save as
3. Navigate to a new filesystem location, click okay
4. You are asked if you really wanted to save in ODT format instead
5. Click okay (ie yes, save as ODT)
6. Another save-as dialog comes up, but it has forgotten the path you selected
7. Reselect the path, etc...

Desired behaviour:
After step 5, you're done. There is no need to prompt for any additional
information. It should just save as original name.odt.

I can reproduce this crash by the following scenario:

1. Edit a writer document
2. In the styles list window, click Modify and the style edit window comes up
3. Click the styles list window again
4. Press escape
5. Back in the modify window, click Cancel
6. OO crashes

Obviously it shouldn't crash, but I was surprised the focus could switch out of
the modify window at all.

Maybe irrelevant, but I had 3 spreadsheets and 2 writer docs open at the time.
I retried it after it reloaded and the same scenario produced the same crash.

As a frequent OO user, I agree with the comments made on Tue Mar 28 14:46:10

I use OO all the time and this is a constant problem. OO makes it hard to
select many objects (hard to click, hard to see them, small handles) which this
issue is a part of.

Also, this is not only an Impress problem but affects at least Draw as well.

When printing a document with (partly?) transparent objects the follow message
comes up:

Your Document contains transparent objects. This may lead to longer printing
time on certain printers. Should the aspect of transparency be reduced?

This is a very obscure question. It should be improved so that its meaning is
clear to an average user.

Specifically, its not clear why you might have transparent objects when you
didn't create anything like that. Also the term aspect and how you might
reduce it is very unclear.

FYI I only noticed this in Writer but it very well may exist throughout OO.

This particular file did not open in Writer correctly.

In particular, only the first page is shown, and the radio buttons are not shown
at all. I think this file was either pasted from a web page or possibly saved
from HTML opened in Word (not sure exactly).

I will attach the original .doc, the .odt I saved from it, and also a .PDF
showing more-or-less how it looked in Word viewer (generated by PrimoPDF, not by
OO).

Images pasted from clipboard from Firefox (maybe other places?) show up
inverted.

1. Create new writer document
2. Go to Firefox
3. Go to url http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Breadth-first-tree.svg
4. Copy the image (ie right-click)
5. Go to writer
6. Paste

Image shows up with colours reversed.

Sounds similar to #92598 and #90617

[sw-issues] [Issue 64656] Can't Undo Embedded Formul a in Word Processor

My observation from OO 3.0.1 is that two separate undos are possible. If you
undo in the document it will ignore changes made in the formula but instead undo
whatever the last word processor operation was. However if you double click
into the formula it will then undo the last formula action - even if other word
processor actions have superceded it.

My own preference would be:
- In the word processor, undo should revert the formula
- In the formula editor undo should NOT revert the document since this might not
be very obvious to the user.

FYI I think a similar problem exists with charting in Calc.

With regards to the importance of this issue, many students use OO due to its
low cost and academics are probably more likely to use the formula editor. So
this may impact a larger proportion of users than would first appear.

A suggestion for the styles themselves would be that they should ideally replace
all of the Format menu functions. Since a given formula has different formatting
(eg the for the existing items in the Format-Fonts dialog: variables,
functions, etc.) the simplest thing might be to create a new formula style
section in the Styles and Formatting window. This would seem preferable to some
system where four different character styles applied to each formula.

I expected Ctrl-Space to select a column, but it doesn't. I can select a row
using Shift-Space.

I thought I used to be able to do this, maybe in OO 2.x. (I might be thinking of
MS Excel however).

When trying to select several objects you can click and drag a rectangular area.
However this doesn't scroll the page, making it harder to select objects which
are off-screen (or just partly offscreen).

Ideally it should scroll the page when the mouse cursor reaches the edge of the
visible area.

This is not easy to reproduce consistently.

This affects drawings made in OO Draw which use smart arrows (where the lines
automatically connect to the objects). It seems like it only happens when the
lines end up with 1 bend in them but I am not sure that is a necessary
condition.

When I paste a drawing to Writer where the line which is connecting the object
will be positioned incorrectly in the Writer document. In the case I saw, just
one segment was affected.

It seemed like randomly moving the line in the original drawing and then pasting
again (even if it was moved back to the same place) would fix this problem.

It did not matter what paste format was used - draw, GDI, bitmap, etc. all had
the same issue.

Although there is a workaround this could cause serious apparent quality
problems in people's work since it is pretty easy to miss in a complex diagram.

I noticed this problem using a dual monitor setup although it happens in other
occasions as well.

Scenario:
1. Have two OO windows up (I had a Writer and Draw window up) with documents
2. Focus one of them
3. Move the mouse to the other window
4. Scroll with the mouse wheel

Expected - nothing, since the window the cursor is in is not in focus

Actual - the focused window scrolls.

I don't see why an area the cursor is not in should scroll at all. Its
different than when you use the keyboard, because the keyboard cursor of course
remains blinking in the focused window.

In Draw page up and page down will always jump an entire page. In Writer it
will jump in small sections of the page instead. This is what I expected Draw
to do instead.

Because of this, its hard to move around in drawings with the keyboard. Up/down
keys only move in small increments.

Also I just think its confusing that the two apps work differently in this
respect.

if multiple text boxes are selected, the text formatting toolbar disappears,
and one must right click the (invisible) perimeter of one of the text boxes, and
select edit character or edit paragraph (or use menus) to format the text.

In the find/replace dialog, I can't replace with a specific font character. E.g.
If I use the windows character map to copy a symbol (font) character and paste
it into the find or replace box, it displays the wrong character.

Colour toolbar button is not very useful because it always changes to the colour
of the selected text--why would I want to press a button to keep the text colour
the same? I'd rather have it persist, so that I could select text, then click
the button to apply the colour that I've selected, instead of selecting text,
then finding the colour I want on the drop-down menu (multiple times).

(Noted on http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=37796 but doesn't seem
to be an issue yet).

When multiple objects (e.g. text boxes, lines) are selected, I should be able to
click on that area (or at least the perimeter) to move the selected group. If I
click on a text box in the group, it goes to edit the text; I have to click on
the (invisible) perimeter of the text box, or the line segment.

This is VERY annoying.
