The list of supported languages in OO.O keeps growing with every release (which
is a good thing), but if you want to format text as using a specific language,
this list in the Dialog Format/Character has now become unwieldy.

As an example: I use German, English (UK) and English (US), French and Spanish.
I don't usually get texts in other languages. Yet, when I want to format the
text as using French, I have to scroll down a long list of languages that are
not even installed and that I never use. So a switch to not show languages that
are not installed would make sense and would make life easer for 99% of users.

Maybe a feature where installed languages are shown first (like the recently
used fonts in the font list) would be more acceptable.

[sc-issues] [Issue 94724] Date/time arithmetic in fo rmulas does not work after input

@nn:
I've read issue 88897, and I think I understand the implications, but it IS
incredibly annoying - so annoying, in fact, that I still prefer 2.4.2 for
spreadsheets.

Being able to input time values this way (00:40) is also something that someone
new to OO.o expects.

There should be at least some workaround. IIRC, Quattro for DOS (yes, I'm that
old), at a time when you couldn't input time values directly in most
spreadsheets (not Lotus, not Mutiplan), had a shortcut key combination, I think
it was ^D, to indicate to the input parser that the next value was a date or
time value.

So, two suggestions as a compromise/workaround:
1) couldn't the input parser reinstate the old behavior for cells formatted as
time? Or, at least
2) give us a shortcut that tells the input parser that the next value is not a
cell/column reference but indeed a time value that should be converted from
7:12 to the number 0.3

Any of those would be great.
Thanks for doing great work, and I know that pleasing everyone is impossible

OO.o 3.10
Also all kinds of arithmetic with time values don't work. You can obviously use
functions like =A1+time(0,40,0) instead of =A1+00:40:00, but this shouldn't
be necessary, and it worked in 2.x.

Actually, in cells formatted as time (like HH:MM), even values in formulas
should not be converted to floating point for editing
(=A1+0,0278), but should keep the time format and be editable as
=A1+00:40) - this would be much easier.

I know this would only work for adding and subtracting (multiplying by 2 would
otherwise be shown as multyplying by 48 hours/2days).

Will add attachment screenshot

In 2.4.0 the situation is unchanged, and I still think that including
all user-defined and all applied styles in the automatic selection would
make a lot of sense and a lot of people's lives easier.

I will attach a spreadsheet and a writer file.

If you paste the chart created in calc into writer (edit/paste or edit/paste
special/Star Object Descriptor (XML), the chart breaks: the source rows and
columns for the chart are transposed and an extra empty data column is created.
This does not happen, if you paste the metafile, or if you paste into draw or
impress.
A possible reason for this to happen: in the chart creation wizard I changed
“Data ranges in columns” to “data ranges in rows”

Since the Format / Data Ranges menu item is greyed out in writer, you cannot
rectify the problem.

A more detailed description is found in the bugdoc file. I'm using the German
version, so the exact menu text may be slightly different.

@rainerbielefeld:

The report is about _version 2.30_ - see the form above!
Since the implementation of charting in 2.30 is all new, there are bound to be
new bugs! I know it was not there in 2.0.x and not in 2.2.x, nor in 1.1.x,
that's why I reported it only now, and as 2.30

I have tested this on different machines on Win2000, WinXP, SuSE 10.0 - as a
restricted user you don't even get to selecting any files, the first thing you
see after selecting File - Wizard - Document conversion is the errormessage I
mentioned in the issue description.

I'm not sure if there are any real restricted users in XP Home, though - I think
all users have at least some administrative rights in XP Home.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the errormessage.

I agree it's not really an important issue - home users have root rights on
their machine, and at work document conversion may often be done by the IT
dept., who will know what to do. It's probably mostly a problem for SMEs.

Page numbers from fields that use an offset (insert - fields - other - Document
tab: Type: Page / Select: Page number /Format: As Page Style (or any other
style) / Offset) can never go any higher than the total count of pages in the
document.

if you use an offet that would make the page number on the current displayed
page higher than the total number of pages in the document, it returns an empty
field (grey but no text)

in a 3-page doc, it works like this:
page : |real page number|offset 1 | offset 2|
--
page 1: |1 |2|3|
page 2: |2 |3|empty|
page 3: |3 | empty |empty|

This is explained better in the attached document.

If you go to Edit/Undo the description of the last action is broken, if it
contains an non-ASCII character (looks a lot like a UTF-8 problem to me.

In my German version, the Undo-String is Rückgängig: Formatvorlage Ändern
(change style), and the non-ASCII Ä looks like in a UTF-8 filename on a
iso8859 system (see attached screenshot). Strangely, the Rückgängig (undo),
while it also contains a non-ASCII character, is OK.

There seem to be 2 issues with table and cell borders:

Whenever you have a table with table and cell borders, only complete cells
should have a border at the bottom.

If you have a table whose cells wrap partly to the next page, the part of the
cell on the first page should not have a border, since it is not a complete
cell.

If you look at the screenshot (bug-table-border-1.png) and accompanying
document, you will see that the third row of the table begins on the first page
and continues on the second.

The table in the text has borders, and the third row should only have a border
at the end of the row, but NOT in the middle, not even at the end of the page.
In the document, a line appears at the bottom of the page that shouldn't (red X
on the first screenshot). On the next page, there is no border at the top of the
page - CORRECT: it is only a continuation of the same row/cells.

Another problem with table and cell borders (has existed at least since
Staroffice 5 and may have been reported elsewhere):

As you can see in the second screenshot (bug-table-border-2.png), the cells have
borders and the last row of the table goes to the next page. IMHO, the topmost
row on the second page should also have borders, since it is a row of complete
cells - no part of the cells is on the previous page.

Will attach archive

if you use an unassigned keyboard shortcut in writer, it replaces text with the
letter pressed in conjunction with the Ctrl key.

in the German version of m122, Ctrl+Shift+K is used for Italics (as in MS word),
instead of Ctrl+K (as in earlier versions of OO.o / SO).

When you press Ctrl+K, selected text is replaced with the letter K.

In my opinion, the program should eiher
a) do nothing (like in calc, draw, impress)
b) beep
when the user presses an unassigned shortcut.

This inconsistent behaviour is particularly annoying because many longtime users
of OO.o and/or Staroffice are used to the previous shortcuts.

Aa far as I have tested the other apps, only writer suffers from this problem.

Will send attachment: Templates-vor-ott.zip

Whenever I have a writer file open in OO.o 1.9.104, and I then go to the stylist
to load and overwrite styles from another template, it works with *.ott
templates, but not with the Staroffice 5.2 *.vor templates.

Attached: 2 simple templates, regular SO 5.2 formattings,
with the default font changed to 'Arial'.

Open new writer document, try to load styles from 'ARIAL-SO5-Template.vor' -
doesn't work.
Open 'ARIAL-SO5-Template.vor' as a file in OO.o 1.9.104, and save it as
template
(here: 'ARIAL-OO.o2-Template.ott'), open new writer doc and load styles from
'ARIAL-OO.o2-Template.ott' - works OK.

I often use the 'automatic' style list in stylist, but it neither includes all
styles used in the document ('Applied styles') nor all user-defined styles
('Custom styles').

Since users are very likely to use their own custom styles and to reuse already
applied styles, it would save them quite a number of mouse clicks to have them
in the 'Automatic' list.

THe list of languages in the character formatting dialog is very long, if you
use multiple languages in a document, finding the correct one is tedious.

Maybe there could be a setting in Tools - Options - Language Settings to only
show:
a) languages whose dictionary is installed (the users are likely to have
installed dictionaries for all the languages they ever use)
b) languages already applied in the document

Should anyone want to apply a language attribute for a language not installed,
they can still turn the option off. THis could also be set to OFF by default to
keep compatible with existing installs.

If you use a Staroffice 5 template, the styles are used correctly
but the heading levels are somehow separated from their styles:
the headings look the same, but they are no longer outline levels and
need to be reconnected with their respective outline levels
(Tools - Outline numbering... - Numbering - paragraph style)

works OK with *.ott and *.stw

In both Windows and Linux it seems impossible to open a template for editing.
Windows 98SE and Linux (Suse9.1):
File - Templates - Edit... - [File Dialog] - Button Open
File - Templates - Organize... - [Dialogue Template Management] - Button
Commands - Edit
File - New - Templates and Documents - [Button Edit]

All commands don't open the template for editing but open a new file based on
the template instead.
This is true for
- SO5.2 templates (*.vor),
- OO.o 1.1.x templates (*.stw) and
- OO.O 2.0 templates (*.ott)

Workaround:
Save the new document created based on the template under the template's name.

If you insert the contents of another file into a writer file by going through
Insert / File..., it works OK for *.sxw files.

Writer invariably crashes for any kind of *.sdw files created in SO5.2 or
OO.o1.1.x
The same goes for older (pre Office97) word *.doc files.
I know older *.docs are an unsupported format, but writer should show a dialog
saying exactly this, not crash and burn.

It's an old bug that has existed for years (present in SO 5.2), and reported
once for OO.o 1.1, but still present in 680m87:

If a table is the first element in a writer file, only the table _OR_ some other
text can be selected, never the complete file, not even by selecting with the
mouse from start to end or by pressing Ctrl+A repeatedly.

It's all the more frustrating because many templates contain text and logos as
letterhead in invisible tables at the beginning of the file.

save buttons and menu entries remain inactive.

and unclickable, yet it's not greyed out as inactive, and invites you to click
in it to enter page numbers, which of course doesn't work

In my view, there should be one of two possibe solutions:
A) the edit filed should be greyed out as inactive to indicate the user first
has to select the pages radiobutton,
or, even better
B) the edit is active, and as soon as the user enters any data into it, the
selected radiobutton should switch from all to pages automatically

I know it's ony a minor niggle, but ...

There seems to be a bug in the way mater documents handle attached files:

- in one SO5.2 Master document I imported, the first chapter comes out wrong:
In the first attached chapter file:
  - the first one-line paragraph is formatted as Heading 1, the second as
Text body
  - it also appears like this when the chapter file is opened in OO.O 1.9.74

When the master doc is opened, however, both the heading and the second
paragraph appear formatted as heading 1, even if the outline numbering used in
the heading is not in the second in the paragraph - so the program seems to
recognize this is not a heading. But the fonts etc are exactly the same as in
the Heading 1 style, and the formatting toolbar tells me the paragraph is
Heading 1.

PDF export:
The new PDF bookmarks feature is great, but there seems to be a problem when you
only export a range of pages instead of the complete document.

When you export only a certain range of pages to pdf instead of the complete
file, writer still exports all headings as pdf bookmarks, even those that do not
appear on the exported pages.

  example headings:
  chapter 1 .5
  chapter 2 .7
  chapter 3 10

all three headings are exported as pdf bookmarks, even if I export just a range
of pages 8-9, that do not have any of those headings.
