[sw-issues] [Issue 10598] Line selecting in Write
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=10598 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jul 31 15:52:52 -0700 2006 --- I, like the original poster, would like to have the option to line-select as I do with MS Word. Not *instead* of the multiple clicks one can use in Writer, but in addition to. There is one annoyance I've found when trying to select lots of text with the mouse. Lets see if I can describe this clearly. I've found that, sometimes, selecting multiple lines by click and drag, and it's so much text that I force Writer to scroll down the page, there is a rubber-band effect. That is, Writer will spring the selection back to the previous screen where I started selecting, and keeps rubberbanding the selection no matter how many times I try. Using shift-arrow down/page down works without problem though. I was going to say always instead of sometimes, since this is one of the things that force me to go back to Word. However, I decided to make one last reality check before posting, and Writer made me look bad by allowing me to do screen-scroling click-drag-selects without rubberbanding *sigh*... so I don't know if this is an easily reproducible issue, or if its something that only happens to me. I wanted to give a heads-up about this just in case anyway. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 41118] printing of even and odd p ages (add odd/even to left/right-pages string in UI)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41118 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jul 18 10:03:59 -0700 2006 --- This is one of those little details that makes me throw up my hands in the air and drag myself screaming back to Word, at least for a while I cool off. I found it educational to learn here that all odd pages are left and all even pages are right, but I guess I am used (and respond quicker) to dialogs with the Odd/Even descriptor. I don't like it but I *might* be able to live with that... but not with the command BURIED under Options, especially when I use it all the time. The truth is that many of us average users (I'm no tech) *expect* to find it in the same place as other popular apps we use (from Adobe, Micromedia, Microsoft... heck, even Textpad has it), and that means an Odd/Even choice up front in the *main* print dialog. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 58625] Odd/Even (left/right) pa ges and Current Page options in Print dialo g
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=58625 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 15 12:50:56 -0800 2005 --- Thanks for taking the time to read and consider the issue I posted. I really hate to post duplicate requests, but I didn't found out about issue 41118 until now. I also appreciate your addded comments on said issue. About the Print Current Page reques, I have to admit it wasn't obvious to me that the Print Range option defaults to the current page :-P. Maybe if I had been using Writer more often I would have caught onto that. Hmm... I will probably open a new issue regarding that... if not for an in-your-face (although admittedly redundant) Print Current Page radio button selection, at least some new entry in Help (or addition to the Print section in Help). I couldn't find any reference to that in the Help. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 59419] New - 1-click text mouse-s elect on left margin
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59419 Issue #:|59419 Summary:|1-click text mouse-select on left margin Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P5 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|hierogrammate --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 15 13:44:54 -0800 2005 --- Being mouse centered myself, I noticed that no one has mentioned yet another choice that Word gives to select text (although I may be wrong). In MS Word, when one moves the cursor past the left margin, it becomes an arrow which allows me to single-click-select a whole line and, if I leave the button pressed, to paint as much text as I need to select. I missed that option while I played with Writer, and would really like the program to add that in future versions. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 59420] New - Add a Print Current Page radio button in the Print dialog
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59420 Issue #:|59420 Summary:|Add a Print Current Page radio button in the Print |dialog Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P5 Subcomponent:|printing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|hierogrammate --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Dec 15 14:06:33 -0800 2005 --- I have to admit it wasn't obvious to me that I could mimic the effect of the Print Current Page option in MS Word with the Print Range option in Writer, which defaults to the current page :-P. A poster gave me the heads-up about this in the forums. Maybe if I had been using Writer more often I would have caught onto that. And that is why I am submitting this as an issue: it is not obvious enough for me. There should be an in-your-face, although admittedly redundant, Print Current Page radio button selection in the Print dialog as well. Added levels of redundancy can only help Writer to mold itself to different user styles--- especially to that horde of users who will never touch a tech forum and see their computers as appliances that auto-update themselves, and where tweaks in Options should be minimal or inexistant for common chores, like writing a letter... If that is not possible, at least add a new entry in Help (or addition to the Print section in Help). I couldn't find any reference on how to print just the current page in the Help window... that would have saved me the trip to the forums :) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 58625] Odd/Even (left/right) pa ges and Current Page options in Print dialo g

Yeah, I know that what I am asking is just as redundant-looking as in Word... it's a lazy feature (and I admit being pretty lazy myself) to avoid having to dig deeper in the menu to achieve some effect. :) Its just that I've always seen Options as something that one should set and forget about it, if I may be allowed to borrow a line from Ron Poppeil's silly infomertials. If I only print odd/even pages 2 or 3 times a week, it would be nicer to have a readily available menu selection for those particular moments. Same thing with having a clickable Print Current page (that prints the page where the cursor currently is) instead of having to enter the particular page number every time. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 58625] New - Odd/Even (left/righ t) pages and Current Page options in Print dialog
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=58625 Issue #:|58625 Summary:|Odd/Even (left/right) pages and Current Page |options in Print dialog Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:|http://http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml? |t=24559postdays=0postorder=ascstart=0 OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P5 Subcomponent:|printing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|hierogrammate --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Nov 29 07:15:01 -0800 2005 --- AS stated in the forum in the link above, one can go to File Print Options... Pages to then select/deselect whether one wants to print either Left pages or Right pages (or both) as required. Nevertheless, one should only go to the trouble of entering the Options dialog for, well, options one likes to have active all the time. What about those of us who want to do that odd/even printing on the fly? To give a more direct example, MS Word has a drop-down selection in the Print dialog, under the Print What drop down, called simply Print. There you are given the options of printing All pages in range, Odd Pages, and Even Pages, so one can select them on the fly without committing the program to do that every time, as selecting that in FilePrintOptions might imply. Maybe even going a step further, giving one the option of a clickable toolbar button to immediately print either even or odd pages (if the current page is an even page, automatically printing all odd pages only... etc.) Having a Print Current Page on the fly option would be great too (maybe an optional Toolbar button for it as well, or a key combination). Its not that I want OOo to be an exact replica of Word... but little touches like these will help me wean out of MS Word even better. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 33518] Unable to visually see fo rced page breaks
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=33518 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Nov 28 04:14:26 -0800 2005 --- I agree with the last poster. I need something more obvious that just a colored line. The in your face line labeled page break in MS Word is a good example.. something that can be revealed or hidden with the Nonprinting Characters command. Maybe not critical, but when you are hours on end editing a doc with sleepy eyes, loud markers like that help a lot. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
