In Excel, selection is remembered when you leave the sheet, and Calc remembers
only last sheet selection.

true, it is fixed now. I hope that it is also in line with OOo principles to
resolve it as WFM (it is according to Mozilla principles). If it should be
fixed, change resolution then (it would sound better like that btw).

If there is empty row the only way to include data below is to explicitly select
area before applying autofilter.

Even if you chose 'Select all' and then autofilter, it won't take anything below
first empty row. Personally, I think that even if nothing is selected and you
chose Autofilter it should take all available data, not just contiguous. Excel
does it correctly.

If value in cell is some number with several figures after decimal point (e.g.
81.2325), when dragging down autofiller it should best guess what I want to do.

Current guess - increment by 1 is highly unlikely. I think that the best guess
is just to copy that number.

In Excel, if you use scroll with mouse wheel in print preview, you browse
between pages. As your hand is usually on mouse after pressing print preview
button, this is the easiest way to do it (and you are not distracted with
looking for icons when you want to look at the pages to compare them). In OOo it
is just not possible.

In Excel you just choose Paste special and Unicode(unformatted text), and task
is finished.

In OOO another dialog appears where you can set how OOO imports Unicode text. In
theory, one can use this, but in practice I haven't use this so far (and never
once missed it in Excel). On the other hand, it decreases productivity.

One idea would be to remove dialog from current Unicode text option, and add
another option like Unicode text with dialog accommodation. Or just drop the
dialog, it adds a lot to complexity and little to value.

In MS Office, floating toolbar is moved away if that text you are typing appears

You didn't read how to reproduce this, OK, here is even simpler form:

1. Isert table 2x1 cells
2. Move cursor to the right cell
3. Move cursor right once more
4. Hit enter

MS Word creates new row, while OOo doesn't understand this procedure.

I must say I wasn't aware of tab as a mean to add new row when posted this bug.
However, some people got used to this behavior in MS Word, and it is still worth
considering

In MS Word, when you move cursor to the right when it is positioned after last
character in the rightest cell, you can hit enter and insert new row. The same
functionality for OOo would be desired.

I would like to have in compatibility options one new option (below the list of
current options) which would be check box named use compatibility only for Word
documents.

When it is checked, OOo would activate compatibility mode only in two following
situations:

1. document is opened as Word document
2. new document is created and option to save as Word document by default is set

I think that this would add value to the look of documents for people that are
using odt format, while it would still keep functionality for .doc format.

Just to note that logical step is also to brake compatibility list, so that Word
compatibility options stay on the same list separated from the others (which
could be also grouped as OpenOffice.org 1.1. compatibility, that would have the
same check box to use them only with Openoffice.org 1.x documents, and Other
compatibility that wouldn't have check box)

Frank,

I would like to ask for this issue to be treated like a bug.

I would like to give counter example - if your car doesn't have side air-bags,
then it is clearly that asking for them is enhancment.

But if your car rolls-over (like Mercedes A generation 1) then it is a bug, no
matter that it is resolved by adding another electronic system, which is
enhancment by definition (and on all non-roll-over cars should be treated like
that as it is just the thing that improves stability which is already on
acceptable level).

This issue is similar like roll-over. I normally enter the title of column
first, then I enter data below. Of course, I don't look into the screen, as it
is faster like that. Eventually, after dozens of minutes of work I realize that
I have to work all over again because my software... needs enhancement or is
buggy, whatever.

1. Put in a1 2005. (as a title for column)
2. enter numerical data in column a for year 2005.

If you enter data normally, all your 2, 20 and 200 data will be turned into
2005.

I think that this is not some special case, but every day using of spreadsheet
program.

[sw-issues] [Issue 5226] Save Icon Greys out when n o changes made

If one types even just one letter the icon becomes visible, so I can't see it as
a big problem. The one that doesn't type even one letter may have a problem, but
then there is a question why he installed OOo at all?

Anyway, I would like to propose this: Change the tooltip over grayed-out icon to
something more informative like can't save document with no changes.

I really think that this is great feature and should not be disabled, maybe just
upgraded this or some other way.

Gray area between paper and window in left and top is too big. If you open
floating windows (like Navigator) they might cover part of the text (with usual
page margins), though it is not necessary if gray area was thinner.

It doesn't depend on document, so I don't have anything to attach. Maybe I
wasn't clear with step 2, so here are all steps to reproduce again, maybe a bit
more clear (also adding step 0 that might help):

0. create new document
1. enter some notes
2. click save as
3. on the warning that you have notes click that you don't want to save
4. delete all notes
5. click save as

I'll attach file to the bug.

I took this file from the net, so I can't say everything about StarBasic script
that is built-in. As far as I remember, it was for version 1.0 of OOo.

However, if you open that file with OOo, and answer with 'yes' concerning basic
scripts, OOo will hang.

1. Paste special with changing some of the options
2. Restart Calc
3. Open Paste special dialogue again

Default options are selected.

This issue is opposite to issue 28895 which asks that options should not be
rememebered even within the session.

As far as I can tell, top reason for pasting special is because someone doesn't
want to use default (paste all) preferences - otherwise he would use simple
paste command, so I think that options should be remembered.

1. Format/Page/Background: apply any gradient background
2. chose another gradient in the background

After this, background should be set to the one that was chosen in step 2, but
it does not happen (it remains the one set in step 1).

Workaround is to chose non-gradient background between steps 1 and 2.

When document is saved current view is moved to cursor (so that he appears in
visible part of the document).

User normally wants to keep his view on the part of the document he watches, not
on the part of the document where the cursor is.
