[sw-issues] [Issue 64393] New - automatic links in t he contents page
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=64393 Issue #:|64393 Summary:|automatic links in the contents page Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows 2000 Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|jevan --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Apr 14 02:17:48 -0700 2006 --- Here's a tip for users of OpenOffice, and it's also some feedback for the developers about an improvement suggestion that's a result of some further thought about this (that is mentioned afterward). Refer to attached images: oo - links in the contents page - 1.jpeg (Where to insert the bookmark) oo - links in the contents page - 2.jpeg (List of bookmarks in the navigator, also showing the contents page where they have been dragged to) oo - links in the contents page - 3.jpeg (An improvement might be to implement this functionality into the index-and-tables for table of contents, something like the 'hyperlink' button except to automatically create in-document hyperlinks in the correct spots that will work when exported into PDF form) When creating bookmarks for the table of contents, place the cursor on a blank line (thus on the left), which is located on the line before the heading. Then select Insert-Bookmark. Then bring up the navigator, find the Bookmarks category, and drag the bookmark onto a line on its own in a contents page (set a blank page aside for this by doing 'Insert-Manual Break') at the top of the document. This will result that, clicking on a contents page link, in the generated PDF file will place the cursor at an appropriate position. If instead, the contents bookmarks are created by dragging from the 'Headings' category in the navigator, then the PDF file links will not bring the cursor to the correct place in the document (it's too far to the right). Therefore, using the strategy just mentioned above (of creating bookmarks first), is the present solution for getting contents-page in-document links to work correctly (and look right) in the PDF file. An improvement suggestion for OpenOffice is, to implement the capability for links to be able to be created in contents pages (index and tables). I noticed the 'hyperlink' capability however (as far as I can tell) this does not appear to create links into the document itself, to the various headings, from the contents page. If such a feature is implemented then, it is also worthwhile to consider the points mentioned above, in particular, the need for the effective bookmark to be on the line above the heading line, so that when the PDF is generated, clicking on the link will move the cursor to an appropriate spot. If the link was not on a blank line above the heading line, for example if it was to the left of the heading text, then this is not in line with the left of the document (due to indenting of the header), so some of the leftmost text of the document would not be on screen in the PDF viewer, and the cursor position would thus not be correct. Though in fact, I've done it so it is so it works. This discussion may be of use to the developers of OpenOffice, in feedback for continual improvement of the product. Also it may be useful for users of OpenOffice, as a current method for creating a table-of-contents containing links into the document, which are in the correct 'visible' place, when exported into PDF form. Note: See also http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62262 (someone else submitted), however this is not quite the same thing because here the discussion is about where exactly, the link will take the cursor to, when clicked on, so that it is at the correct place in the PDF (it always does go to the correct place, if clicked in OO itself). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Some documents don't need tagged PDF (if no hyperlinks in them) so I don't want them exported as tagged PDF, in order to have a smaller PDF. Some documents though, do have hyperlinks so I tick the tagged pdf and export notes buttons when exporting. However every time I load openoffice it uses the file/export settings from last time, not from that particular document. An improvement suggestion would be that the file/export settings are stored on a 'per document' basis, with global default settings used for new documents. So that, when you load the document with hyperlinks in it, you can click on file/export and know it will automatically have 'tagged pdf' already ticked (since you ticked it last time you exported that document as a PDF). Then when you load the document without hyperlinks, it will (similarly) remember your 'tagged pdf' setting was unticked for that particular document. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This shows that the issue doesn't just happen when starting from the command line. It shows a reproducible and consistent scenario about when it does doesn't happen (watch the video see). Yes, it is windows NT4. I'm not planning on installing OO again just because of this - reinstall is a lot of hassle. If issue isn't able to be resolved from this analysis then, I'll just close/open the document (without closing OO) when I need to use bookmarks so that it starts working again. Users will still have learnt the method to solve the problem if it does happen. The new thing I noticed is that you also have to close the Untitled document, for bookmarks in the other document to start working when you open it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I think maybe it only happens if you load a version 1.1.1 OpenOffice document (SXW) in version 2.0beta and then save-as ODT. Then fully close openoffice and open it again and bookmarks aren't working. I find if I open a new OO2.0beta document, create a bookmark, then I can see it by right clicking on the page number. If I then open my resume document (ODT), the page numbers work! But if I completely close OO2.0beta and open my resume document (ODT) then the bookmarks don't work. It works fine to me. I don't know the entire program though (in terms of testing). I've loaded the word processor and spreadsheet. The basic parts of it that I use, are working. There's a few minor issues however most likely they aren't specific to NT4. I'll submit them separately. I noted that the release notes inside the 2.0BETA installation, list NT4 as a compatible O/S, only on the web at openoffice.org it's not yet listed. The version I installed is OOo_2.0beta_Win32Intel_install.zip I had a minor issue with uninstalling previous version. I uninstalled the network version first logged in as administrator (setup -net -deinstall) then I couldn't uninstalled the workstation version (logged in as myself) since the network version wasn't on any more that contains setup.exe ; I've deleted the directory by hand for the old version and, the new version is working, so its probably OK. I've got OO1.1.1 in my add/remove programs list still, that's about it that I can see. I can figure out how to get rid of this if need be since I did that one time before for another application (via the registry) but haven't seen it as worthwhile to do. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Not all user directories listed in options for configuring. Suggestion is to have a base directory C:\Winnt\Profiles\yourname\Application Data\OpenOffice.org1.9.79\ which you can specify anything, eg you could put instead: C:\MyOpenOfficeConfig\ if you really wanted to. Then if this base directory is changed, all the other directories change as well (eg database, gallery, autotext, etc), since they would be entered as relative (eg user\autocorr\ ) by default, unless they are specifically entered as absolute then it would override the base directory. At present some directories don't seem to be configurable for example, Scripts store uno_packages any others? which leaves us with as slightly unknown state since, most of my OO config I've moved to another location by changing each path one by one in the options, but some didn't have a place to configure them. Unless I couldn't find it. I looked at: Tools-Options-OpenOffice.org-Paths The full list of paths I seem to have is: Application Data\OpenOffice.org1.9.79\user\ 05/03/05 11:31pDIR autocorr 05/03/05 11:31pDIR autotext 05/04/05 01:11aDIR backup 05/04/05 01:12aDIR basic 05/03/05 11:31pDIR config 05/03/05 11:31pDIR database 05/03/05 11:31pDIR gallery 05/03/05 11:31pDIR registry 05/03/05 11:31pDIR Scripts 05/03/05 11:31pDIR store 05/03/05 11:31pDIR temp 05/03/05 11:31pDIR template 05/03/05 11:31pDIR uno_packages 05/03/05 11:31pDIR wordbook Most of these seem configurable. However I think having a base user directory (or some way users can get everything out of their profile location on C:\Profiles\yourloginame\etcetc to elsewhere if they want to store it in another place such as on a network drive etc) could be a possiblity. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 48669] New - Hyperlinks positioning in OO when exported to PDF (as tagged)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=48669 Issue #:|48669 Summary:|Hyperlinks positioning in OO when exported to PDF (as |tagged) Component:|framework Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows NT Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|tm Reported by:|jevan --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue May 3 18:53:29 -0700 2005 --- Hyperlinks positioning in OO when exported to PDF (as tagged) When I click on the hyperlink in the PDF it brings the left side of the screen in line with the bookmark's left position. What could be another feature would be, for it to go to an arbitrary position on the line of the bookmark, not necessarily the bookmark itself. For example I might want it to go 1cm to the left of wherever the bookmark is (so that the dots of the left side for example tables have a bit of space and can be seen better, in acrobat pdf reader). Or I might want it to always go 1cm to the left of the left page text border (ie 1cm into the margin but not at the left of the page itself yet), so that there's a bit of space in the pdf viewer between where the text starts so that the dots don't get missed due to being on the border of the screen in the pdf reader. Try the hyperlinks and you'll see what I mean, when exported to PDF. I can get around this though - by using 'decrease indent' and placing a bookmark inside the page margin in OO (then copying this to a hyperlink inside the document), this will result in the desired PDF position for the bookmark, when exported to pdf. Just that it feels a bit funny having to place a bookmark in the margin of the document in order to force the pdf reader to leave a bit of space at the left of the screen when going to the bookmark position. I was thinking there could be an option in regard to this, (like we have options for page margins when printing to a printer), which would allow hyperlinks inside the pdf document to have some kind of override when it comes to where it places the position your in in the pdf document when clicked on it. Eg always position cursor 1cm to the left of where the bookmark is when clicked on the bookmark hyperlink. Or always position cursor 1cm to the left of the left text margin (on the line of the bookmark) when clicked on the bookmark. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45997 Issue #:|45997 Summary:|Windows NT4 support Component:|porting Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows NT Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|mh Reported by:|jevan --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Mar 24 22:10:49 -0800 2005 --- The current versoin of OpenOffice supports Windows NT4. This issue is a suggestion that OpenOffice 2.0 Beta, could also support NT4, because there are probably still NT4 users out there (like me). I noticed NT4 is not listed in the compatible operating systems for OpenOffice 2.0 Beta on your webpage. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
