I’ll keep using OO Writer with the solution I said below and see if any other problem occurs. If I create a new OO Writer document through “Windows Explorer click on D right click in empty area of WE left panel New ‘Open Document – Testo’ (which in my PC is the name of the only icon to open a new OO Writer document)” then 1)its default name is ‘New OpenDocument – Testo’, i.e. in Englsih language 2)the misspelled words are not underlined 3)the variable “Format Character... Carattere tab (My italian version doesnt have a Font tab) Language” is set to Nessuno (=No one, no language) If I create a new OO Writer document through “Start All Programs Open office Open Office Writer” then 1)its default name is ‘Senza Nome 1’, i.e. in Italian 2)the misspelled words are underlined 3)the variable “Format Character... Carattere tab (My italian version doesnt have a Font tab) Language” is set to Italian. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I have found people who have the same problem but no solution. Even if it is an issue of settings, or procedure, it seems to me that if the average user (and I believe I have at least average logical abilities, as I have BSc Mathematical Sciences) after a few hours of research still remains unable to set up a spell check, or to carry out the check according to the proper procedure, then the design of the procedure or the design of the spell check settings or the help guide should be retargeted to the human spices. So I’ll give up with this program. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Might there be any feature in the “Componenti opzionali” of the installation options that are required for spelling check to work? Im asking because I deselected a few of them. Im an intermediate user. I install the OS, all the programs and usually troubleshoot problems by myself (with the Internet of course). I apologise if it is not a bug. I had already done some research in the mailing lists and found similar problems but nothing useful for my issue. Maybe the problem was that I was editing in OO Writer a MS Word document, which has English as the default language. If I copy and paste text in Italian from such Word documents into a new OO Writer document then the spelling checker works. Well, not always actually, sometimes the settings still go back to English by themselves but sooner or later I may manage to figure out the trick for this too. Also, the Writer version is described like this in the Writer: “OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 OOO320m18 (Build:9502)” In my first report I had written only OOO320m18 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Also when I change “Strumenti Ortografia E Grammatica... Lingua Testo” to Italian, close the dialog box and reopen it the “Lingua di testo” is back to “English”. Might this problem have to do with the fact that Im using a PC in UK with everything in English? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
