Is there anything being done about this issue? I keep running into it. Today I
almost submitted a paper with a misformatted headline because the formatting got
lost on saving and I didn't re-open the file to check if everything still looked
like it did when I saved.

This is quite simply the most serious bug in Writer IMO. I'm surprised it didn't
block OOo 3.2 seeing as it was submitted well before relase. I should be shocked
if 3.3 is released without this bug being fixed.

I have found that this issue occurs only on pages where there is an embedded
video. On all other pages, AA works just fine.

Like the summary states, on Win7 Impress 3.1.1 doesn't use antialiasing for
text, although the relevant option is turned on.

No problem in Writer on the same system and installation. AA works just fine
there, so it should be an Impress issue only.

@andreasma: I have downloaded OOo 3.2.0-rc3 and the problem definitely persits.
The aliasing is especially visible with white text on a black background.

I'm using 64 bit Win7 and 32 bit OOo. As far as I know, there is no 64 bit
version of OOo for Windows.

I came across this while writing my thesis. Under certain circumstances, text
formatting is lost in Writer when saving the document.

To reproduce, do the following:

- Start Writer
- Type W, RETURN, W. You will have two text lines, each containing the
character W.
- Mark the first character and click bold. The first W will now be bold.
- Place the cursor at the end of the document.
- Hit BACKSPACE once to delete the second W.
- Hit BACKSPACE once more to delete the newline and jump into the first text
line.
- Note that the text line will still be bold.
- Save the document, close Writer.
- Open the document again.
- THE BOLD FORMATTING IS LOST!

This is obviously a *very* serious bug. Losing formatting (as has happened to me
in my thesis) is not fun. I narrowed the bug down to the simple instructions
presented above. Hope you can fix this soon!

Cheers,
Jovan

I forgot to add, unlike similar issues already posted this one doesn't rely on
saving in the MSWORD format. Just choose the default file format (ODT) and it
will still happen.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: mba, your idea was spot on. The components selected during
installation do indeed matter!

I have found the following to be the case:

Install OOo-Dev_OOO320_m4_Win32Intel_install_en-US using a Complete
installation: NO CRASH
Install OOo-Dev_OOO320_m4_Win32Intel_install_en-US using a Custom
installation, deselecting Draw, Base and Math (as I had done): CRASH!

So I ran a few experiments and finally narrowed it down to the Base component
alone. Install with Base, everything works, install without Base, Writer crashes
when opening Bibliography db.

Then Issue 100458 (which was closed as WORKSFORME) is probably a duplicate of
that same issue as well.

@SBA/MBA: Will VS Express suffice? I'm surprised OOo isn't built using free
software. But the VC++ debugger is certainly good, and if OOo can be built with
Express, I'll gladly do it. My time zone is GMT+1, I have time for a live chat
(and to build+debug) on Sunday, Dec 6th. Just tell me where you want to meet
(IRC preferably).

Installing a debug environment on your machine to see what goes wrong looks a
bit off scope here :-)

Why not? I'm a professional software developer myself, though I mostly code in
PHP. Can you give me instructions or a link that tells me how to set up an
appropriate environment (Java I presume)? OpenOffice.org has given me a lot and
I am more than willing to go the distance in order to help fix this important
bug.

I downloaded and installed OOo-dev 3.2 with the same options I had used before
(just Writer, Impress, Calc, default additional components) and it crashes just
the same when I try to open the Bib db. This time I used the U.S. version to
rule out the language issue but that doesn't appear to be it either.

What it says is this:

That's right, it's 64bit Win7. Unfortunately, the issue reporting form doesn't

Did a clean install of OpenOffice 3.1.1 with Writer, Calc and Impress (German
Version) on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Simply opening Writer and clicking on the menu item Tools-Literature database
(Extras-Literaturdatenbank in German) crashes the program with a Windows system
error.

Since this is my first bug report to OO.org and I don't know the ropes around
here, I have left the default priority setting (P3) intact, but obviously this
warrants immediate attention so P5 would probably more appropriate.

Regards,
Jovan
