with writer 2.4: Save Icon enabled after SUCCESSFUL PDF-export. Is that
intended? I found that strange, since PDF-export does not alter doc, or does it?

See attached document.

Selection of a single line:

Position cursor behind last character in doc ( 'n' of attention).
Hold down Ctrl+Shift and move cursor to the left of the object.
Works fine: The whole line is selected.

Try the same with mouse:

click behind 'n' of attention, hold down L-button and move mouse cursor to the
left of the object. It's not possible to select the whole line.
One has to move the mouse cursor into the preceding line ('text') to select the
object.

1. Create new writer document.
2. Insert standard footnote.
3. Resize footnote by dragging the ruler sizer.
[Undo becomes possible / Undo menu entry changes]
4. Choose Undo from menu or press respective keyboard combo.
[Undo / Redo menu entries change accordingly. Size of footnote does not change.]

Second problem (don't know whether it is a defect or not): No Undo of footnote
insertions.

create a diagram in a spreadsheet. a achor symbol will be visible. Move mouse

is not movable that way. Compare to moving mouse over diagram itself. Makes no

I experienced a similar problem with a 300+ pages doc with 2.0.4 on Win XP HE.
The most striking fact is that the page counter in the status bar starts
counting approx. up to twice the actual number of pages. After some seconds the
app calms downs and works normal again thenceforward.

[sw-issues] [Issue 20108] hyphenation function: hyp henate all, don't ask to hyphenate

I propose to visually distinguish auto-hyphens (which can disappear, when word
slips totally in one line) and 'real' hyphens written by the user.

It seems to me that there are two types of automatically inserted hyphens.

1. the auto-hyphenation hyphen (- Format / Paragraph / Text Flow)
2. hyphens inserted from the hyphenation dialog. These are visually
distinguished

Why these two types?

Why not having a single hyphen type that has distinct visualization?

(OOO 2.0.2)
I recently used hyphenation for the first time when I was in a hurry. I have to
say, that I found the hyphenation facility terrible. I had to cycle through the
whole text again after I accidentally hit Cancel in the hyphenation dialog. I
couldn't go back to the last word. It seemed to me that some paragraphs lost
hyphenation for no reason. I didn't dare to turn on auto-hyphenation because I
thought that it would insert 'hard' hyphens in the text which would not
disappear in case the word slips totally into a single line.

changing page margins generally changes number of pages. But incrising page
margins in OOO 2.0.2 does not effect the page counter in status bar to update
nor does it effect the page count field in the footer to update.

German has old and new orthography. But using the old one is not simply wrong.
Quoting old books requires the use of the old orthography while using new
orthography for the rest. It would be nice to have different colors for
different misspelling: e.g. German old orthography, German new orthography and
English. So one can check whether orthography is correct regarding the scope
(quote or not).

Document has more than 350 pages.
Sometimes (not reproduceble) the programm hangs and the page counter (total
number of pages) starts incrimenting. Doc of 350 pages yields numbers of 600 and
higher in that situations. After a few seconds the programm stabilizes. No
crash.

I suggest to display a combo box with the possible choices of auto-completion
when a word is about to be auto-completed. In this situation the user could use
the arrow up/down keys to choose between the alternatives. by hitting return the
alternative would be entered and the combo would be closed. See MS Visual Studio
IntelliSense

It is common to use content or content as quotation. And content or
content as a kind of inner quotation: e.g. Peter said: Hello Paul
quotes: Peter said: Hello Paul. opening double/single quotation marks are
well defined regarding the options in the autoCorrect dialog for typographic
quotation marks. Actual behaviour is (when is translated into and ' is
translated into ): typing and ' (without any blanks)will produce which
makes no sense, since the does not follows any opening . It should yield
. I think that problem can be covered by a simple matching brackets rule.

problem is, that ooo interprets the as the last character of a text to be
quoted and rules that a closing should follow.

I think it should be considered allowing the user to arrange the text notes
(Textmarken) in the navigator window in the order of their appearance in the
document, because it would reflect the structure of the document what anything
in a navigator window should do.

See my unconfirmed issue 54436 add navigation 'prev view' /'next view'

I'm maintaining a document of some hundred pages with many annotations.
When searching a phrase one has to be very cautious not overlook the location
one is looking for. In that case one has to click through quite many dialog
items or cycling through all of the locations again.
When copying a citation to another location it is quite difficult to return to
the source destination of this phrase for some reason.

I think mainting possibly large documents requires sophisticated navigation
support.

When Win XP is run with multiple monitors the footnote ballon tips are extended
to the whole width of this virtual desktop. The context menus are drawn over the
the border of one part of this virtual desktop into the area displayed on the
other monitor. That results in quite complex display behaviour. Perhaps some
items should be restricted to one single monitor when using multiple monitors.

It seems that the space between footnote number and footnote text is variable
and is determined by the total number of footnotes. If there are more than 100
footnotes the space between footnote 1 and its text will be 2 blanks. Maybe this
space should be fixed to zero blanks

Open stylist and navigator and dock them on the left side, one above the other.
Now toggle one of them by hitting F5 or F11 off and on again. That will make the
other window have an ugly small size.

when toggling navigator or stylist should their position and size in docked
position should be preserved

I'm using the classic windows scheme with the option autodetect contrast mode ON
(Kontrastdarstellungsmodes des Betriebssystems...)

the enhancement would be to use always a pair of high contrast colors for
selected text regardless of the low contrast of the original text colors. Maybe
by using a fixed background color while varying the foreground color.

It certainly is not a defect.

write a piece of text (black on white). select it. text will be shoen in white
color. background in black. yellow background will yield white on blue
selection. etc.

but:
white text on white background will yield black on black selections.
light grey on white (and vice versa) will yield almost black on black.

result:
selected text is not readable. not selected text is not readable, too. but the
first is avoidable.

situation:

type a word without italic style. type blank. activate italic style. type word
(italic). type blank. deactivate italic style. when typing something now it will
become italic. but pressing CURSOR LEFT and CURSOR RIGHT before typing again
will discard italic style at the very last position.

compare that to this situation:
write text. press CR. press CR. write text. position cursor on blank line
between paragraphs. activate italic. that applied style will persist though no
text has been selected on which the style change has been applied.

I know that this behaviour is normal for writing apps but perhaps it can be
improved

and: marking some lines of text and scrolling the doc down in a single abrupt

I had 'ignoring double blanks' (Doppelte Leerzeichen ignorieren) switched off.
Now my text is full of such double or triple blanks which I want to replace. It
is certainly possible to correct that by using findreplace. But perhaps it
would be nice to have a 'apply autoCorrect to paragraph' function

it seems that in page preview mouse wheel scrolls quite smooth if the visible
part is smaller than a page but scrolls page by page and skips pages when
page(s) fit completely on screen (2 x 1 or 2 x 2). I suggest for the latter to
display every page when scrolling up or down by mouse wheel.

[sw-issues] [Issue 60780] search again key bindin g ignores change in search replace dialog

I mean the search again or repeat search (Suche wiederholen) function which
is usually associated to F3. In the Visual Studio Editor (Ctrl+F = Search, F3 =
search again = Bearbeiten.Weitersuchen) the same procedure produces a search for
the visible string, which I expected though 'search again' really means
searching for the last used search string.

What about this procedure?

situation: search dialog not open.

*mark a word (ABC)

*hit Ctrl+F for opening the dialog (marked word ABC will be shown in the dialog)

*enter search string XYZ

*hit Ctrl+Shift+F (F3) for search again or repeat search

OO will in fact search for the first string (ABC) though another string is
visible in the dialog THOUGH it is the 'search again' function and the ABC
string has not been used the last time.

*now repeat hitting Ctrl+Shift+F for cycling through all locations with ABC
until the dialog 'end of document. repeat search from the beginning of the
document?' (Möchten Sie die Suche am Dokumentanfang fortsetzen?) appears

*Hit Yes by hitting 'return' or by clicking on the button

OO now uses the visible string XYZ though it should repeat the search with the
last used string ABC what the warning dialog suggests.

That's not consistent.

I would suggest to bind the search again keyboard stroke to the button in the
dialog. in VisStudio the button is labeled search again even if it's the first
search. the search function should only be one function which always uses the
visible or at least entered string in the dialog. the keyboard stroke should be
bound to this only search function and use the visible string. If the user has
changed the string in the dialog someway I would suppose that he does not want
to use another string for the next search.

I think it would be helpful to put the search upwards function on a special

maybe it is actual style (see acrobat or firefox) browser but i like it. It is
very concise. the dialog does not cover the text.

writing a word in greek for example requires clicking on severel characters. if
one click goes wrong, you have to delete the whole word and start over.

suggestion:
make special character dialog non-model so one can edit the insertions
immediately or add editing (e.g. backspace) capabilities to the dialog.

It seems that the dialog warning about saving the document in the old OO format
appears sometimes though it is an OpenDocument (odt) document, already saved to
disk and the user only wants to save it in its own format. I can't reproduce
this.

it is 680m1 build 8990., german. on Win XP Home SP2 german. I rebooted the
computer several times. I deinstalled OO and installed it again. Options dialog
works fine. Same behaviour in calc app. After clicking on Anpassen... in the
menu, i'm able to change main frame size, move around the window, minimize it.
But when clicking somewhere inside the window, e.g. a cell in calc a warning
sound is played( i think some standard system sound, a bell). When clicking on
the close button of the main frame, it is animated, but nothing else happens but
the sound is played again.

I looked into C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\UserName\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org2\user\config ( in the
AppData folder) and saw that there are german and english filenames mixed
(farben.soc, arrowhd.soe). That' s strange. Why are config file names
language dependent? For me that makes no sense at all and is quite dangerous.
Perhaps the content of the config files (some key or tag names?) is, too and the
Customize dialog routine can't read something of it and crashes.

I deinstalled OO and reinstalled - same problem.

I deleted the complete OpenOffice.org2 folder in C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\UserName\Anwendungsdaten\ and the remaining installation folder
of the preceding installation and installed it again - NOW IT WORKS FINE!!!

Situation:

Document with chapters, table of content, page number in lower left corner, some
footnotes at the end of pages. Scrolling up in the document.

Should be (which is partly working): show a tooltip with Page x/n chapter
number chapter title

Is:

If the most upper line visible (probably partly visible) is the page number line
(footer) of the preceding page, the tooltip shows imperfectly Page x/n only
without the name of the chapter.

If the most upper line visible (probably partly visible) is a footnote line on
the preceding page, the tooltip wrongly shows Page x/n 1.Name of first Chapter
In this position it seems that the name of the first chapter is shown regardless
of the chapter the actual page belongs to.

see the attached doc.

german 2.0.1.

1. mark a single word in the 1st yellow paragraph and change the style to
Textkörper (text body). nothing happens.

2. mark a single word in the 3. paragraph (also yellow) and change style to
Textkörper. the whole paragraph looses background color.

3. position cursor before the first word on the page (sinnstrukturen) and hit
enter. repeat 1. and compare. the whole paragraph looses background color.

I find that very strange. Maybe that is intended. if so I don't get it.

I just updated from 2.0 english to 2.0.1 german(I suppose so, in the about
dialog it is shown 2.0, but I downloaded 2.0.1 regarding to the file name)

When trying to open the customize dialog (Anpassen...) the main frame looses
the focus (title bar becomes grey) as it should be when a dialog opens but it
does not appear. I have to kill the program in the task manager.

On some footnotes the font combo shows IOPKH C+ Sabon;Sabon
for Times New Roman footnotes, when clicking somewhere inside the footnote.
Opening the combo dropdown and closing it without changes brings back Times New
Roman. Clicking inside the same footnote again shows the same wrong string. One
has to explicitly change the font to Times New Roman by clicking on Times New
Roman in opened dropdown to change it to Times New Roman permanently.

Searching a piece of text:

I seems that footnotes are always treated as if they were appended to the main
text when searching a text fragment. If some text is placed in the main text and
in footnotes and if these footnotes are arranged at the bottom of each page AND
NOT at the end of the document, first all locations in the main text are
displayed and then all locations in the footnotes. Should be: display locations
depending on the footnote arrangement mode (end of page / end of doc)

It seems that some varying in line spaces of footnotes occur if the footnote
text has background color. I don't know if that is intended.

Acrobat Reader has a good navigation function: one can navigate through the
views on the document. In a large text document that might be quite useful. e.g.
you edit a piece of the text. you leave it by searching for some text fragment
for copying it. It would be nice to return to view 1 by one click.

situation:
navigator/stylist visible and docked on the right side
horizontal scrollbar adjusted for viewing the editable area of the doc
fit to page width. It would be nice to restore the position of the hor.
scrollbar. It would be nice to restore the number of the visible page.

If the focus is on module that is deselected for installation the button is
disabled. Change to a module that should be installed and the browse button is
active.

That makes no sense!
The installation path is unique for every module!? It seems so!
It is the installtion path for ALL modules, so it should be visible and editable
independant of the module selection, because it is NOT the path FOR a specific
module, but for ALL! it is valid at this point of the installation process,
though a module is selected, that won't be installed.

I will reopen the issue.
If that is not the appropriate thing for me to do, I apologize.
I'm a beginner.

After saving document, the statusbar panes are not redrawn properly. Sometimes
only their content ist visible. Sometimes the statusbar remains empty. After
minimizing and maximizing the window the statusbar is drawn properly.
